Location description from owner

The South Ayrshire region

The region of Southwest Scotland is surprisingly far west, the Clyde almost 100 miles west of Carlisle. There is a rich verity of country from lush productive farmland to wild and hilly country. The climate suits livestock farming and the annual rainfall rises quickly from the coast to the high moorland country inland. Like much of the west one can experiences days of incredibly clear and beautiful light bathing hills and valleys. The coast is washed by the gulf stream giving a mild climate with several gardens growing semi tropical plants outside.

Girvan

South Ayrshire is hilly with steep valleys and fast flowing rivers and burns, most hold salmon and trout. The Cottage is in Scotland's only UN recognised biodiversity area where wild life and humans co-exist. The coats of the Firth of Clyde is close by with stunning views to Ailsa Craig, Arran and the Mull of Kintyre. Also in the vicinity near Dalmellington is the "Dark Sky" area (www.fo0rest.gov.uk/darkskygalloway) for viewing the sky at night.
The highest hill in the area is the Merrick at just under 300oft reached from Glen Trool from it summit on a very clear day the view can extend to include Hevellian, the Mountains of Mourne, Malin Head and right up to the North shore of the Firth of Clyde distances of up to 70 miles. For walkers and cyclists there is the Raiders Road used by Robert the Bruce in more violent times and walkers can enjoy the Southern Upland way. Ayrshire has many fine buildings and a newly published book in the Pevsner Series of the buildings of Scotland cover Ayrshire and Arran for those with an interest in Architecture. Scotland's premier National Trust house and park Culzean is about 5miles beyond Turnberry golf coarse.

“Full of natural simple charm and picturesqueness.”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2016

Wow, this is an absolute gem. We loved this place. Set in idyllic and tranquil surroundings. This cottage is outstanding, it was exceptionally clean and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. We have stayed in many cottages over the last 14 years and this is the best one. The weather was kind for the time of the year. We were totally relaxed after our week away.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for such a valued review. Of course should you find things not to your liking we will always try and improve, but in this case all I can repeat is "thank you so much."

What a great house, photo's do not do it justice, it is much bigger than it looks. Lovely clean rooms with kitchen and dining area .We were very impressed with this wonderful property.but we have to apologize as we had to make some asian food and we know its smell not good .again Im really sorry for this.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the review and we are really glad you had a good holiday. I expect we can let the air through the house before the next guests.
