Enjoy the stay at your holiday cottage set in a rural location.

Le Haut Hamel is in a small rural hamlet about 3km from the nearest town, Torigni Sur Vire. Here, you will find shops for local provisions, a supermarket, bakers, butchers, post office, banks, restaurants and a local tourist office. There is a picturesque lake where you can hire pedal boats, go fishing, have a quiet picnic, or go for a stroll and enjoy the local scenery. Across the road from the lake is a 17th Century Chateau.

Here you will also find a children’s playground and crazy golf .

There is a market just outside of the town hall on Monday mornings

We will require a separate returnable security deposit of £100.00 to be paid with your final balance to cover against

We will require a separate returnable security deposit of £100.00 to be paid with your final balance to cover against possible damage and breakages. Returnable up to two weeks after your holiday departure home.

We can also supply a box of logs for the open fire in the lounge at €5.00 per box payable to our caretaker at the end of the holiday.

The holiday cottage comprises a fitted kitchen with electric oven & gas hob, large fridge / freezer, dishwasher and microwave. The sitting room has exposed beams with an open fireplace and a Hi-Fi with CD & cassette tape player, TV with English Freesat channels, & French Freeview type channels with VCR, and DVD player.

There is a light airy dining room with French doors opening out to the small enclosed garden. The bathroom has a combined bath and shower, with a separate W.C. Utility room with washing machine. The house benefits from gas central heating. Take the stairs up to the first floor where there are three inter-connecting bedrooms; one double bedroom with an antique carved four poster bed, and two twin bedded rooms with views out to the neighbouring countryside. A cot, high chair, and stair gate are also provided.

There is a small enclosed garden with garden furniture.

Small hatchback cars can be parked on the gravel path in the garden property. Larger vehicles can be parked to next to an adjacent barn to the property.

The Basse-Normandie region

The property is set in the region of the Vire.

Experience the history of the Normandy coastline with a visit to the D Day Landing beaches.

St. Martin de Brehal is our nearest beach, a short drive from the house (about 40 minutes). It is a seaside town with gift shops, beach cafes and a restaurant. Further down this coast are a selection of neighbouring beaches, some towns with typical seaside amenities, and some without. Spend a day visiting Mont St. Michel which is a well known attraction ; stay long enough to experience the changing tides. Beyond Caen is the seaside town of Etretat with its naturally formed arches built into the cliffs framing a pebbly beach below. For a family day out why not go to Festyland, a theme park in Caen There is a zoo at Villedieu-les-Poeles. Villedieu is also famous for its copperware.

Bayeux (where the famous tapestry depicting the battle of 1066 can be found) Caen, and Falaise are all areas of historic interest

Gieville

The picturesque town of Torigni sur Vire is the nearest town to the cottage.
Being a market town, a market is held in the grounds of the 17th century chateau, with a livestock market nearby. Torigni sur Vire has two large lakes with pedalo boats for hire in the summer, crazy golf and swings and climbing frames for children.
Torigni has its own tourist office for those of you who want to find out more about the local region or to go further afield.
