We named our property “Scenic Escapes” for its picturesque country location because it is somewhere you can unwind and escape everyday life for a while. Our apartment building “Ta'Gaglione” was designed by a renowned local architect and is built from the Gozitan creamy limestone to create a small exclusive development of just 8 apartments. We offer good quality self catering accommodation in an ideal location, being on the edge of this peaceful traditional village, yet only a five minute walk to the village centre. Gharb is a historic local village with the community centred around the picturesque church square, which frequently plays host to local events involving music, dancing and plenty of food where all are made to feel welcome. Nearby is the celebrated Ta'Pinu cathedral, while the Azure Window and Blue Hole diving site are just 3km away and the quaint capital Victoria can be reached in 5 minutes by car or bus.
There are several restaurants within a few minutes walk and some friendly local bars in addition to a well stocked supermarket for those nights when you want to eat in. With a tastefully decorated bedroom and bathroom, cosy living area with balcony and swimming pool with sunny deck area overlooking open countryside together with numerous guide books and local information, our apartment offers you a peaceful retreat whatever time of year you choose to visit.

The outside pool and deck is spacious with pretty planted gardens and plenty of space for sun loungers. The deck area overlooks untouched countryside; it is quiet and peaceful and a perfect spot for relaxing in the beautiful sunshine the Maltese Islands are renowned for. The pool is a constant 3m depth with a handrail at one end. Children must be supervised at all times.
The apartment is on the first floor and there is a lift. We are a non-smoking family and would ask all of our guests to respect this and not smoke in our apartment.
The Island of Gozo region
With a population of just 25,000, consisting mainly of farmers and fisherman, Gozo and it's inhabitants have a personality quite distinct from big sister, Malta. The countryside is much greener with steep fertile valleys fringing spectacular rugged cliffs that plunge down to reveal alluring bays.
Gozo is home to some beautiful peaceful beaches including Ramla Bay, a magnificent sweep of red sand on the north of the island, sleepy villages, prehistoric temples older than Stonehenge, the legend of the goddess Calypso and some of the most spectacular diving sites in the Mediterranean.
The island of Malta has been dubbed “the Mediterranean's mini-Hollywood” by the London Times as it is becoming one of the world's most popular film and television locations. If you take the time to explore beyond the 'package holiday' Malta, there is plenty to see and do. Wander around the baroque modern day capital Valletta, peruse the delights of colourful Marsaxlokk and it's famous Sunday market; amble through the medieval 'silent city' of Mdina for breathtaking views or unwind in one of the award winning spas on the island.
Many people don't realise how stunning the islands still are in the autumn and even the winter – yes, we do get the odd cold spell and rainy day but also a lot of days with brilliant blue skies and sunshine. Off season it makes this area all the more magical ... less tourists to compete with and a more leisurely pace to be taken.
We are on the island with the oldest freestanding Neolithic temples in the world; they make Stonehenge and the Pyramids look like new builds! Both Hagar Qim and Mnajdra are in the south of Malta but well worth the trip, plus you can also combine it with a trip to the famous Hypogeum, a vast underground burial chamber where over 7,000 human bones were discovered. The most intact temple is on Gozo itself; Ggantija (meaning Giant) was reputed to have been built by a local giantess.
Walkers, cyclists and horse lovers can explore the breathtaking local scenery – most of it so unspoilt … There are the caves of Xaghra , the nature reserve at Ta Cenc, numerous country walks where you can explore the island's unique flora, folklore and maritime museums, the busy market towns of Xaghra and Victoria, windmills, the craft village at Gharb, and a positive plethora of baroque churches!
If your idea of a good holiday is tranquility, magnificent unspoiled scenery, the best diving in the Med, superb food and the most amazingly friendly people plus a typical Mediterranean climate, then Gozo is a good choice!
We have a large online photo library which we are happy for you to view. Please let us know if you are interested in seeing further pictures.
Our apartment is located on the edge of this peaceful inland village but within a short walk of local restaurants, grocery shops and bars. We are a 10 minute walk to the shrine of Ta'Pinu, a church that is so revered that to this day, all weddings in Gozo culminate with the bride leaving her bouquet on the altar of the church as it is considered to bring long life and prosperity to the couple. Gharb is also home to a folklore museum and a glass blowing shop selling plenty of samples of the local art, the beauty of which will rival those found in Venice at half the price!
Gharb is a place of intense natural beauty, especially in the area around the ancient chapel of the bishop-martyr San Dimitri. The legend says that an old woman beseeched the saint to save her only son from slavery by the pirates. San Dimitri left the altarpiece on his flying stallion and soon brought back her son. The altarpiece can still be seen in the chapel and a light is kept permanently burning outside as a symbol of the islanders' gratitude to the saint.
There are some excellent restaurants for a village of this size with a choice of pasta, local cuisine, fish and seafood. Talking of food, there are many local delicacies to try. Seafood and shellfish are in abundance. Fish soups, home-made pizzas, aromatic fruit and vegetables, exquisite pastries, award winning wines and let us not forget the ice-creams! Hungry?
Just under a couple of miles away next to Dwerja and the magnificent Azure Window, you can swim at the Inland Sea, where the sea has cut into the cliffs to form a shallow, sheltered salt water pool with pebbly crystal clear water. Boat trips from the little jetty take you out to the open sea through a natural tunnel in the cliffs. Once through the tunnel the cliffs rise majestically out of the water and the boatmen wander slowly around a number of caves which dot the coast. The various dramatic rock formations, coves and drop-offs have earned Dwerja the reputation of being among the best dives sites in the Mediterranean and undoubtedly the best the Maltese Islands offer.
The apartment is an excellent base for exploring the rest of the island with the capital Victoria and its markets only 5 minutes by road. We are just 5 minutes from Dwerja and the Azure Window and only 15 minutes from the red sandy bay of Ramla and the prehistoric temples of Ggantija.
Gozo is wonderful walking country with plenty of well trodden tracks through the more famous of the islands landmarks such as Calypso's Cave or the Azure Window but also some hidden secrets such as the beauty and peace of the Lunzjata Valley and the tiny hamlet of Ghasri.
For the adrenalin junkies, the Maltese Islands offer a varied and scenic playground for rock climbers of all levels. Whether you are looking to tick off some short and sweet challenges or setting out to push your limits on a multi-pitch adventure, there's a spot here to suit your style. There is a comprehensive guide in the apartment cataloguing 21 areas on all 3 islands with 1,200 + climbs.
Gozo is an enviable base for diving and we work closely with one of the established diving schools who have been operating since 1989, and offer a wealth of experience and local knowledge, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced diver. They offer over 50 shore and boat sites with depths from 5m to 45m in Gozo, Comino and northwest Malta; and sights from natural rock formations to sunken wrecks and reefs bursting with marine life. First timers can have a go at a trial dive at the shallow end of a safe bay and experienced divers can join others of similar experience on accompanied dives. Unaccompanied diving is possible for those divers holding the local government dive permit.
Trial dives in the calm clear waters of Xlendi Bay are a great place to start and from the tender age of eight, children can take the Padi Bubblemaker course to introduce them to the world of scuba diving in a pool in less than six feet of water.
Segway, quad bikes are horse riding are now also available on Gozo.

We booked the apartment for our trip to Gozo in August 2010, my partner had visited Gozo & Malta on a number of occasions but this was my first trip and I could not wait to see what my other half had been raving about! The apartment was perfect for us, bright and airy with a little balcony- it was just lovely. We hired a car for our stay which was great to tour around the island, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! It was really nice to have the pool too for the odd day that we felt like doing nothing. I would highly recommend the apartment and absolutely fell in love with Gozo, we cant wait to go back!
