Description

The complexe is ideal for those wishing to escape everyday routine and relax enjoying the Cretan countryside, it's for those who want to contact the nature, the wild life and of course to meet the people and their habits.

All houses are independent and fully equipped. They are built according to the traditional architecture. On the outside, beautiful stone work frames the dark green doorways and windows, further accentuated by the pastel strawberry and lemon walls. Add to this lovely tiled roofs and backdrop of the blue sky and mountains, and then you begin to understand why we were so smitten.

Inside the restoration is if anything, even more remarkable, with beautifully tiled floors, ceilings supported by huge beams interlaced with traditional bamboo linings and pale ochre coloured walls set off by elegant concealed lighting.

Each house has two floors and a private veranda with panoramic view of the mountain and the sea. Guests can choose amongst houses with one

Location description from manager

The Chania Prefecture region

The Apokoronas extends from the foothills of the White Mountains north to the coast, in a wide plain with rolling hills. To the east, Cape Drapanon rises above the plain and extends out into the Sea of Crete. The area is very green and fertile, unusual for rocky Crete. The Kiliaris river, known in antiquity as 'Pyknos', runs through the region. Robert Pashley suggested that the name 'Apokoronas' came from the ancient city of Ippokoronas or Ippokoronion, also cited by Strabo. This city may have been located near modern Nipos, or on the site of the Venetian fortress, Castel Apicorono, on an outcrop between Kalyves and Almyrida. The major towns of Apokoronas are Vamos, Armenoi and Vryses, with police, municipal and utility offices as well as taverns and large churches; Kalyves, Almyrida and Georgioupoli are the largest beach resorts. Tourism and agriculture are the major local industries, with much construction and quarrying to satisfy the demands of many foreigners eager to buy or rent properties in what used to be beautiful and traditional villages. Gavalohori is among the more popular villages for foreign buyers, with a large amount of often low-quality building taking place.

Georgioupolis

Georgioupolis is a popular vacation resort with a great long beach (it goes for several Km) and an idyllic harbour with little fishing boats at the north coast of the island, between the cities of Chania and Rethymnon (35 km from Chania, 25 km from Rethimnon). A fishing village up to 1990 or so, it was discovered and has been transformed into a popular holiday destination over the past 15 years, without losing its original charm and tranquillity. Old eucalyptus trees and a small river that flows into the sea, create a distinctive and unique ambiance (it is a wildlife refuge). As for the location it is a great choice as a starting point for excursions into western Crete. At a distance of about 5 Km from Georgioupoli lies the Kournas sweet water lake that worth's a visit.
