The Chania Prefecture region

Georgioupolis is a popular vacation resort with a great long beach, between the cities of Chania and Rethymnon. It is a great choice as a starting point for excursions into western Crete. Old eucalyptus trees and 3 rivers that flows into the sea, create a distinctive and unique wildlife refuge. The landmark is a tiny white chapel on the tip of the pier. An excellent choice of tavernas, minimarkets, local shops, pharmacy, health care, and police department.

Georgiopoulis(3km) is the hub for the local farming and fishing communities and boasts a wide, sandy beach that stretches for an impressive 10 kmExopoli (1km) has a couple of tavernas while the large and vibrant towns of Chania and Rethymnon are also within easy distance.Vrises is renowned for it's goat cheese and yoghurt. The rivers that flow through its centre make it a nice place to escape the summer heat, in the shade of the giant plane trees.Kurnas Lake(7km) has some tavernas, and pedalo rental. The clear water is great for swimming.

“Excellent accomodation in a perfect location”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2013

You often worry" will it be as good as it looks"? Well our villa certainly was! Stefanos' attention to detail is fantastic. We really felt as if we were staying in someone's home. The villa is easy to find and has amazing views. As in previous reviews we were treated to carrot cake, spinach and cheese pies, all made freshly by his wife. Delicious! We had supper in Georgiopolis and honey and yoghurt in the village of Virises. Which has a fantastic cake shop. I can recommend the Baklava. We loved our holiday and have booked for next year!

“Wonderful villa in beautiful location”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2013

We - husband and myself plus son and fiance - spent a tranquil ten days in Villa Katerina. The service from the owner, Stephanos, was first rate and included lovely little extras such as cake and cheese pies - and he ensured the fridge was stocked with cold Mythos! The villas are clean and beautifully designed, with lots of different outside spaces plus views of the the bay and of the White Mountains - stunning. Woke up to the sound of goat bells tinkling. Local beach lovely. Poseidon Fish Taverna as good as ever. We al loved it.

“A great place for a holiday”

Reviewed 15 May 2013

The villa was really lovely both inside and out with a nice seating area to enjoy the spectacular sea and mountain views. The pool was clean and safe with plenty of room around it to enjoy some sunbathing. The owner, Stefanos, has obviously put a lot of effort into making this a really welcoming place and provides all you could expect to make your stay comfortable. Some of the furniture is quite unusual and this helps to make the villa special. Being quite high up, there is sometimes a bit of a wind blowing but we found this quite useful when the sun was particularly hot. The villa is at the end of a dirt track and so it is nice and peaceful without being remote? Extra touches such as the owners wife making fresh bread and Cretan pies were very welcome. Overall, we would return and definitely recommend it as a place for a lovely relaxed holiday.

“A Fantastic Stay”

Reviewed 14 May 2013

The Villa was brilliant - great location, nice traditional features and a lovely small pool. The views out over the mountains and down to th sea were excellent, especially at sun set. The villa is located in a very private location and the only noise at night are the goats occasionaly walking past! Lots of things to see and do in the surrounding area and the owner, Stefanos, is very friendly and helpful; we even had a freshly baked cake and some food/water waiting for us when we arrived which was really appreciated. All in all - a great place to stay

“Beautiful location”

Lovely accommodation, lovely location, very quiet with beautiful views. Lovely cool pool. Only downside was no dishwasher and a few hornets coming to drink at the pool.

“Absolutely wonderful”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2012

We had a wonderful holiday in Stefanos' beautiful Cretan villa. We highly recommend it. Stefanos was a perfect host, with him and his wife bring freshly baked goods every few days when they cleaned the villa. The villa had a private pool, and also was well hidden from the 2nd villa nearby - even though you are next to each other, both look out to the sea and have plenty of trees for shade. Things this villa is good for: - Exploring Crete - being only five mins from the National Road, you can quickly be on the road that traverses the island and see some wonderful sites - Relaxing - the villa is very peaceful, and you feel completely at nature with only the noise of the goats around you. We got up one day to watch the sun rise at 6am - magical. - Being close to the bars and restaurants of Georgioupoulis (4 mins drive away). A taxi was 7euros each way if you didn't want to take the car. - The beach - whilst you can't walk to the beach (unless you're a goat), Georgioupoulis beach was lovely, as was Almyrida just over the mountain. We visited almost a different beach every day in our 2 1/2 week stay. - Feeling like you're in your own home - the villa was cosily decorated in a traditional way, but with all your modern needs (wifi, aircon, decent shower/bath, washing machine) - it was home from home. Book early as he gets booked up quickly!

“5* villa 5* holiday 5* crete”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2012

We had 10 glorious days at the experience villa in Crete, The villa was better than we expected and everything we hoped for. The villa itself was spacious clean and very accommodating. stefanos the owner was there to greet us and gave us every bit of information we needed as well as home made cakes on 2 occasions which was very kind. Regarding your stay at the villa I would recommend bringing your own DVD’s for the evening as the satellite channels only have 2 English speaking channels and they were both news channels but this is nothing against the villa we were ill prepared on that front . The views from the villa are spectacular and the position of them in Crete was perfect for getting around, be it to the local town Georgioupolis which again is perfect and just big enough for a variety of restaurants and bars or further a field to places like Chania and Rethymnon . Both lovely although we preferred Chania . The only criticism we could make of the whole villa experience was the fly’s / insects around the pool. Although they don’t bite and don’t come near you they are very annoying and relentless but as I say they don’t sting or bite you they only come for water from the pool but its non stop. But this is not a bad reflection on the magnificent villas themselves. If we could recommend anywhere to go if you want to leave the villa for a day we absolutely loved Gramvousa and the beach called balos , absolutely stunning lagoon where the water does not get higher than your waist and the water is like bath water. Take some food and drinks and catch the boat the port and really enjoy your stay there , seriously brilliant day we felt. We also had a great day at the Kournas Lake its only ten minuets away and it’s also lovely. So overall I would recommend anyone to have a stay at these villas we will be booking again without a doubt great place and great villa. Thank you stefanos

“Paradise on Crete with beautiful view”

Reviewed 10 May 2012

Fantastic house, fantastic view, fantastic owner. We had one beautiful week on Crete and would like tot stay longer. When we arrived Stephanos, the owner, was waiting for us. He had already done some of the most essential shopping so we could sit down at the pool with some fetacheese, olives and a glas of wine. The place is so quiet and the view so magnificent like paradise. The house has all you need and Stephanos has a good taste for the interior. Stephanos even brought some delicious pastries during the week. Hospitality from the Greek. We could recommend this house to everybody without any hesitation.

“Romantic retreat with fabulous views”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2011

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the villa. We found the villa totally met our needs. We can recommend this property to anyone. Extremely private with everything you need and lots of lovely extra touches. We had a wonderful stay for two weeks at the villa. The service was excellent and we were very happy. The owner Stephanos was very friendly and helpful. We felt welcome to contact him for anything and he provided us with great tips. It would be better to cover the entry side from the corner till the dinner space, also get little more dishes for Kitchen, especailly small and mid size bowls. Apart of that, it's perfect for people liking nature calm and beautiful landscapes.Despite the 2 houses , every family is at home without views of each other. We will absolutely recomend our friends to rent the villa and we have allready decided to come again next summer, and also invite our frends.
