Georgeham

Once the home of Henry Williamson author of Tarka the Otter, Georgeham is an idyllic village just a few minutes drive from the award winning blue flag beaches of Putsborough and Croyde and with Saunton and Woolacombe beaches nearby. Putsborough is the nearest and forms part of the 3 mile long stretch of white sands all the way up to Woolacombe. Woolacombe beach has just been rated as the 4th best beach in Europe and the 13th best beach in the world by tripadvisor. It's clean, safe and backed by rolling dunes which means it's very easy to find space even in the peak of Summer. The village has two great pubs with local beers, cider and fab food as well as a village shop and post office with a range of organic produce all less than a five minute walk away If you don't fancy cooking but want to stay in during the summer we get a visit from a mobile Fish & Chip van every Monday and a Thai van on Thursdays so you will be spolit for choice.

The adjoining chocolate box village of Croyde is a renowned surfing destination offering three great pubs an ice cream shop and surf stores as well as the Cascades indoor pool park and riding stables to keep the children busy.

A regular local bus service links Georgeham with Croyde and on to the village of Braunton just 10mins away with supermarkets, pubs, craft and surf shops as well as banks and restaurants and what we think is the best fish and chip shop in the world! The market town of Barnstaple is just 20mins away with a cinema, ten pin bowling, leisure centre, tennis club and further shopping attractions.

The South West Coast path is just a few minutes away and Saunton Golf Club with with two challenging links courses is less than a 10minute drive for the energetic. Other local attractions include the 30mile Tarka Trail for cyclists, the Big Sheep, Watermouth Castle and Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park for the children. The town of Ilfracombe is a 20minute drive with it's working harbour offering fishing trips as well as day trips to nearby Lundy island for the adventurous.

“A wonderful holiday cottage, did not want to come home!”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2012

Our stay at Barley Cottage was brilliant. We have two small children aged 6 and 9, both of whom did not want to leave the cottage either. It is so beautifully decorated and everything, really EVERYTHING needed was there. It really is the most wonderful cottage to stay in; comfortable, stylish, cosy, clean, fresh - the garden/ decking area was great to chill out in once the children were in bed. Georgeham is beautiful and really friendly. Croyde, Puttsborough and Braunton five min away - the walk to Puttsborough was great! Nice pubs with friendly locals.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Barley cottage and many thanks for your lovely comments. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Best wishes Jacqueline & Simon, Barley Cottage
