“A home from home with jaw dropping views”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2013

We've stayed in a number of self-catering places on Skye, and we can safely say this is the best. This house was built as a family home just a few years ago, as such you don't get any of the compromises you get either with a modernised older property, or a purpose built holiday home. What you get is a house built by someone who grew up in Geary, and built his house to show it at it's best. Other reviews have tried to describe the view, but it really is very difficult to put into words, and pictures don't do it justice - you just have to come and see for yourself. Unlike most of Waternish which is famed for it's sunsets, Geary faces the rising sun - we just watched the sun rise almost every morning. Being a local, John knows everybody in the village - the welcome pack includes produce from several of his neighbours, so we walked up to the end of the village to buy eggs, and also to get more delicious bread and cakes. John was very welcoming and accommodating, for example since we didn't need the wi-fi in the games room he swapped it over to use the alternative router in the house for us. Knowing we were coming with small children he also ensured that toys were left for our children so we didn't have to bring many with us, he also brought new release DVD's later in the week that he had picked up on the way back to Geary. In summary I'd recommend this place just for the views, which on an island full of fantastic views are hard to beat, but on top of that you get a well equipped, modern house that allows you to enjoy those views, along with the warm welcome from a knowledgeable local wanting to share the island he was brought up on with his guests.

“Stunning House in a Stunning Location”

We have justed returned from Number 19 and had a fantastic holiday, from the minute we entered the house we felt at home.It is very well equipped and had everything we needed and more.We have stayed at many holiday rental properties and i must say this ranks as one of the best! definitely 5 star. The house was spotless on arrival and the welcome pack a nice touch,John the owner was there to show us around and explain how everything worked.Amazing views from an ever changing landscape.Would have no hesitation in recommending this property but please don"t all book it and leave a space for us to return again!

“Number 19, Dunvegan”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2013

A fantastic holiday, staying at a lovely 5 star house with all mod cons imaginable. The owner was very friendly and accommodating but not intrusive, and the welcome package was a lovely touch. The house is set in a stunning location that offers some amazing views and local attractions such as Dunvegan Castle and the Talisker distillery are easily accessible by car. Could not ask for more.

“Incredible property - magical holiday.”

Right from walking in the door of Number 19 I knew we were going to experience something special. We were met by a magnificent hamper from the owners, a ready mode fire ready to light in the wood burner, and a view to take your breath away. Throughout our stay, we experienced luxury and comfort that was simply out of this world. Quite how the previous reviewer can judge this on factors out of the owners control is a bit beyond me. The owners consistently went above and beyond the call of duty to assist us, from helping with tourism info, to calling us when bad weather was due, we simply could not have asked for more. It is EXTREMELY easy to see why the property has been given such a high rating - if you are looking to do Skye in unrivalled luxury, I would have no hesitation in telling you too book Number 19, and book it right now before anyone else does!

“exceptional home from home accommodation and stunning scenery”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2012

from the moment we arrived we were blown away by this house, sensational, everything you need is there for you. My two grandchildren aged 16 and 10 enjoyed themselves in the newlybuilt games room. The house is exceptionally comfortable and clean, the views are awsome and the wildlife great to watch. Only tip do your weekly shop at Portree Co-op, don't miss Jan's Bakers in Dunvegan yum yum!!!!! you can also order your bread and cakes from the box outside her house at Geary, we will definately be returning next year in the summer. John and Catrina, this was just the tonic we needed thank you so much. Christina and Dennis

“Glamorous yet homely property.”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2012

Last minute break at no. 19 so didn't get to meet John or Catrina but their welcome was still felt. Wonderfuly stocked larder with all the basics and some generous treats that were most welcome. Hoped, but didn't expect, to see sea eagles (which was one of the main attractions when booking). However, saw several in the local vicinity! Even though the property has all the mod cons and is quite glamorous I felt immediately relaxed and at home. Having "Janns cakes" as a neighbour was a big plus for me! Would definately recommend No. 19 and the Eagles Rest to friends and family.

“Home from home in a wonderful location”

The house was beautiful. A fantastic location and very well fitted out. The kitchen had everything you would want. The kids were delighted with the games room which had everything! Generous food hamper waiting on our arrival. Booking and liaison with owners was very easy.

“Luxury accommodation and breath taking views!”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2012

We visited for a week in August, but soon realised that we didn't want to leave. The house is first class and the games room was certainly a hit for my 2 boys. The view from the house is amazing and the hamlet of Geary very peaceful. The surrounding countryside offered some fantasitic walks as well as some nice pubs which served great food. We were also lucky enough to see the Highland games that took place in Portree. I have no doubt that we will be returning to No.19 for our next Highland getaway.
