Location description from owner

The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park region

Dunbartonshire is the gateway between the Clyde estuary, with its rich industrial heritage, and the rugged highlands to the north marked by Scotland's first National Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. An excellent base for a holiday providing the best of the National Park with great accessibility to the airport and road network.

The abrupt change of scenery from lowland to highland is marked by the highland boundary fault line, a geological coming together of two historic continents to form Britain as we know it, manifested in a series of linear islands within the southern part of Loch Lomond which are rich in natural heritage.

Aside from the plethora of outdoor and sporting activities around and about, we are spoilt by an abundance of nearby cultural and historical attractions which celebrate our area's history, past and recent, and its importance in shaping Scotlands place in modern society.

Tourist information is provided in the cottage for a huge variety of places to visit such as castles at Stirling and Dumbarton, museums and galleries including the superb Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Riverside Museum (transport) in Glasgow, and marvellous houses such as Rennie Mackintosh's Hill House in nearby Helensburgh.

For those interested in the world of whisky our nearest distilleries are Glengoyne (the slowest distilled single malt) and Auchentoshan (triple distilled), both of which offer award winning tours.

Gartocharn

Curlew Cottage is superbly well placed to explore this wonderfully scenic area. Walking and cycling from the door as well as outdoor and sporting activities abound with golf and water sports well provided for locally. Scotland's two largest cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily accessible and provide many wonderful diversions including excellent museums and cultural interest and Stirling is also just a short drive away. The iconic Loch Lomond is within walking distance and one of the best views of the Loch is from Duncryne Hill, the top of which is just 20 minutes walk from the front door.

“Fabulous cottage in a fabulous location!”

Reviewed 22 Feb 2016

First class accommodation and made to feel extremely welcome from the owners right from the very first contact with them. The cottage itself is absolutely wonderful and has everything you could need. It is bright and airy yet well insulated & heated against the cold January weather. Great location too and the hosts will point you in the right direction for whatever it is you want to do (walking, sightseeing, shopping etc.). Just a short drive from Loch Lomond so couldn't be better placed. We will without doubt be going back!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It was a pleasure to welcome your group, we're glad you were kept warm and cost throughout your stay and look forward to seeing you again. Best regards, Deborah & Steve
