Getting around

A car is necessary to make the most of your visit, although there is a local bus service during the week, but not at weekends. Local taxi firms are accustomed to longer journeys, and as we are in the midst of 'Whisky Country' it is nice to let someone else drive if you want to taste the different local drinks. Garmouth and Kingston have a large number of cycle and walking paths on the doorstep, and it is really useful to pack a pair of stout walking shoes, and bicycles. The River Spey is also becoming a destination for kayakers, and there is secure storage for bikes and kayaks at the cottage.

Interaction with guest

I live in the property next to the cottage and will handover the keys and give a guided tour of the cottage and facilities. If you have any queries, about the local facilities I am happy to answer them. When your holiday is complete please drop off your keys into the letterbox of my house. If there have been any breakages, or something doesn't function properly, please let me know by the time you are ready to leave.

“Lovely cottage, fantastic welcome, well thought out”

Reviewed 15 Nov 2017

Cottage lovely, welcome fantastic. The proximity of the beach was great, we watched the waves each morning during our walk, sighted birds that we had not seen before. Small villages/towns nearby which have remained unspoilt. Found crafting (knitting) treasures in Elgin, Buckie and Keith during our short stay. Hope to return soon.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your review, I am glad you liked the cottage and found lots of interesting things to do to keep you occupied, even when the weather was not very nice! I hope you choose to come and stay again in the future.

We arrived at heathered cottage at 4pm after a long drive and a couple off site seeing stops.we were met by the lovely Fiona Stewart (owner) who lives next door who had put together a welcome pack full of nice goodies Inc 2 bottles of wine. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything you need, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer etc.there is a TV and wi-fi for the kids and sleeps 4 but you could squeeze a couple more in.it is close to shops, pubs and is a good position to start all trips in Scotland,it is also close to the beach and have been told is amazing in summer.i would recommend this cottage and will be returning soon and is far better than staying in a b&b as you feel like you are part of village life..Thanks to Fiona for are great stay and the cottage is amazing

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for this review. I am glad you enjoyed your recent stay, and hope to welcome you all back in the near future. Hopefully there will be more sun and it will be a tad warmer!

“Very relaxing...”

Reviewed 9 Mar 2014

I stayed in the Heatherlea holiday cottage with my 3 daughters during the February school break and we all appreciated the comfortable surroundings inside the cottage, especially the big bath and modern kitchen. The real fire was a wonderful bonus! Outside there are fantastic views of the Moray Firth and great walks to explore and photographs to take. The nearby area of Fochabers has a wonderful ice-cream shop as well as a very good fish and chip shop. The "Quaich Café" in Fochabers also does very good lunches. We'll be back!
