The Tuscany region
Tuscany has a unique artistic legacy, and Florence is one of the world's most important water-color centres, even so that it is often nicknamed the "art palace of Italy". Most of the frescos, sculptures and paintings in Tuscany are held in the region's abundant churches and cathedrals, such as Florence Cathedral, Siena Cathedral, Pisa Cathedral and the Collegiata di San Gimignano. Tuscany is also famous for its wines, including the well-known Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino.
The climate in Tuscany is generally very mild with differences depending on the geography of each area. The coast tend to have hotter summers than the hills where the Ginestra apartment is. The warmest months are generally July and August, while June and September offer both nice warm weather in general without it being too hot.
Gambassi Terme is the closest town to the Ginestra apartment, just ten kilometres away. It stands on the Via Francigena, which thousands of pilgrims travelled along every year in mediaeval times between Rome and Canterbury. You can still walk along some stretches of the route today surrounded by splendid panoramic views.
About fifteen kilometres from Ginestra you can then feast your eyes on one of the most celebrated views in all of Tuscany: the unmistakable sight of San Gimignano and its famous towers. The layout of the town and the many civil and religious buildings have remained practically unchanged since medieval times and 15 of the original 72 towers are still standing today.
Finally we strongly recommend the twenty-kilometre drive from Ginestra to Volterra. Dating back to the time of the Etruscans, the city rises up from the top of a steep ridge among sheer ravines known as the "Balze"(cliffs), and has many magnificent mediaeval buildings.
If you dont want to drive just relax in our swimming pool! Or you can go walk, run or bike along the beautiful paths that surround Ginestra. You may also fish in our lake at the bottom of the valley. Nearby there is a 27 holes Golf course and a Riding stable.
