- Very Good
We arrived after a 350 mile drive to find the cottage wonderfully warm and welcoming. The location is beautiful, an ex-lockeeper' s cottage on the banks of the Caledonian Canal. It has been lovingly refitted to provide a very cosy retreat. The photos on the web site provide the first clue that this is not your usual beige cottage. The kitchen is bright and well fitted out, the living room has a very comfy sofa and great log burner (all wood/coal) included. Bathroom has a large shower, the bedroom has a wonderful roll top bath at the foot of the bed and lashings of hot water. The thoughtful touches- fragranced candles, chocolates and card from the lady who looks after the cottage were really appreciated. In short it is a wonderful place to escape to whether you choose to hibernate for the week or use it as a base for sightseeing, climbing, or water sports.
Excellent little cottage. Probably one of the cleanest holiday lets that we have ever stayed in. The house keeper made the cottage nice and warm and with the radio on for our arrival, she even placed freshly cut flowers from the garden in a vase on the kitchen table. The location of cottage is great for exploring Fort William and Fort Augustus and watching the boats pass along the canal.
“Brilliantly furnished cozy cottage in great location”
The cottage is perfectly fitted out with modern appliances and furniture and beautifully decorated. The kitchen has everything you need .. although there is no microwave (which wasn't a problem for our stay). The stove fire in the living room was perfect to come back to after a day out walking in the winter hills. Village is very small and quiet but with easy access to plenty to do in the surrounding area (with a car). Mobile phone signal was weak inside the property and there is no wifi which was a slight inconvenience but perfect to get away from it all! The bath in the bedroom was also fab but we did seem to run out of hot water before we managed to fill it although was fine to run two showers each evening.
This historic cottage was the perfect getaway! We were there on our honeymoon but it would be great for a couple in need of some quality time. Very romantic, far from civilization (20 min drive from Fort Augustus) and no wifi were just what we needed. It is absolutely beautifully decorated and the kitchen is fully furnished. The fireplace made our stay even cozier.
Very good and exactly as the printed details, the best and quietest place for a relaxing holiday, you can do nothing, or walk, cycle, hike, and all activities including canoeing. Accommodation top class.
“Ideal cottage for short break”
Perfectly sited for exploring the Caledonian canal and watching boats go through the locks; nicely restored canal cottage with well chosen furniture and equipment. Excellent walks can be planned around good bus service to road end (two mile walk on minor road) and the Caledonian Way - we didn't use the car at all for 3 day short break. No local shops though till Spean Bridge -but there's a great fridge if you arrive with all your provisions! Not isolated - there are several bungalows in Gairlochy and the lock staff are very friendly and informative. Mobile reception was OK and there's a real red phone box beside the cottage!
“Lovely cottage and a beautiful scenic and peaceful location”
Would highly recommend staying at ArdLussa Cottage, it is beautifully decorated inside with a lovely modern feel. It also had the bonus of a wood burner for cosy evenings in. The best part is the amazing canal side location with a five minute walk to the end of a loch with some spectacular views, it's remote enough to feel totally away from everything and but only a 15minute drive to Fort William for amenities. Would definitely stay here again if coming back to Scotland. Thank you to the owner's for a your cottage it really made our holiday extra special.
