Location description from owner

The Veneto region

Veneto is one of the twenty regions of Italy. Its population is about five million, ranking fifth in Italy. The region's capital and largest city is Venice.
Veneto is the 8th largest region in Italy. It is located in the north-eastern part of Italy and is bordered to the east by Friuli Venezia Giulia, to the south by Emilia-Romagna, to the west by Lombardy and to the north by Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. At its northernmost corner it borders also on Austria.
By area 29% of its surface is mountainous (Carnic Alps, eastern Dolomites and Venetian Prealps). The highest massif in the Dolomites is the Marmolada-massif .). Other dolomitic peaks are the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the Pale di San Martino. The Venetian Prealps are not as high and range between 700 m.
Though being a heavily industrialized region, tourism is one of the main economic resources of Veneto. One-fifth of Italy's foreign tourism gravitates towards Veneto, which is the first region in Italy in terms of tourist presence, attracting over 60 million visitors every year, and the second after Emilia Romagna in terms of hotel industry structures.
Veneto is an important wine-growing area producing: Soave, Bardolino, Recioto, Amarone, Torcolato, Tocai Rosso, Garganega, Valpolicella, Verduzzo, Raboso, Moscato, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Nero, Pinot Grigio, and Prosecco.
Prosecco is a dry sparkling wine.It is made from a variety of white grape of the same name, which is traditionally grown in an area near Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the hills north of Treviso. The name of Prosecco is derived from the northern Italian village of Prosecco (Trieste), where this grape variety is believed to have originated.

THE TRUE CHARM OF THE PROSECCO SUPERIOR DISTRICT

Just over an hour's drive from Venice, the Prosecco Superiore Docg hills ring the natural amphitheatre lying between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the north of Marca Trevigiana, as the province was once known. In the near distance you can see the imposing Veneto Dolomites rising in the background -the visitor coming from the plain is greeted with lovely, unexpected scenery where steep inclines alternate with gentle slopes and there are endless rows of vineyards.

Here, in this beautiful part of the joyous and loving Marca, everything scents of wine and hearty flavours, with century-old enological traditions that have deeply marked the landscape and spirit of this enchanting area. The people here love their roots and have retained a taste for tradition and the pleasure of hospitality, along with that for local food products like cold meats, cheeses, roast meats, greens, chestnuts, grappa, mushrooms and honey. Together, all of these elements combine to enrich the flavours of the local food and wine This is a district full of charm, of historical and artistic attractions, of precious, often unexpected and jealously guarded surprises, to be found in the valleys or in the many villages and towns scattered in the area, a pleasure to wander through while discovering the ancient traces of human in-habitance and culture.

These are lands of castles of the past, aristocratic villas, lone monuments, churches and hot springs of Roman times. Conegliano, Vittorio Veneto, Valdobbiadene and Pieve di Soligo are each little jewel-caskets of nature, as well as artistic and architectural treasures, all waiting to be discovered as you capture the inner rhythms of an area which still follows the ancient beat of man and nature. While all around, with age-old patience, the vines await to meet the sun and witness the solemn alternation of seasons, colors and tastes.

The best way to get to know this district is to follow the Prosecco and Colli Conegliano Valdobbiadene Wine Road, Italy's oldest, which takes the visitor over three theme routes to discover historic-artistic sights as well as the most prestigious crus.Discovering the wine landscape

DISCOVERY THE WINE LANDSCAPE

The Prosecco and Colli Conegliano Valdobbiadene Wine Road, is the direct heir to what was Italy's first enological route, started long-ago in 1966. Large stretches of the original route have been repeated, joined by theme itineraries able to valorize the entire district, its different viticultural landscapes and many attractions, including historical-artistic ones, scattered through the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.

This suits the needs of the modern wine tourist, searching not only for great wines and typical food products but also for all those scenic, environmental and cultural components that in the broadest sense comprise the spirit and deepest traditions of a district.

Totalling 75 miles and running along the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, this wine road guides the visitor past uninterrupted vineyards, through villages and towns where you can taste the fruits of age-old winemaking arts and enjoy views and landscapes of true beauty and great charm, along with the medieval legacies of hermitages and churches and traces of typical rural and religious life. Without forgetting the chance to savour traditional dishes and products at the many venues along the route.
