Location description from manager

The Algarve region

The beaches, often islands with miles of golden sand lapped by the crystal blue waters of the sea are beautiful. The area is still very unspoilt with a strong local atmosphere with an exceptionally friendly feel. With a wonderful selection of places to visit from bustling Fishing Ports such as Olhao to wonderful calm cities with pavement cafes and cobbled pedestrian areas such as Tavira and Vila Real.

Inland Market Towns with a wonderful rustic feel such as Moncarapacho.Easy access to the West of the Algarve makes the family parks easily accessible for families opening up an array of zoos, crazy golf, water parks and more.

For golfers Quinta Do vale is a treat not to be missed along with the amazing Monte Rei, and many more.

Fuseta

Fuzeta is a small town in the Ria Formosa in the eastern Algarve.

The famous working fishing boats leave from one end of the key and the passenger ferry and other small boats leave from the other side.

Fuzeta was originally a collection of small huts kept to store tools for fishing boats and now has developed and increased in population but is still very traditional and untouristic.

The town which is located on the coast is known for it's quaint cubed houses with their terraces and interesting chimneys and is a trademark of this part of the Algarve.

Fuzeta has the added bonus of two beaches. The first is a small calm beach on the lagoon in the town itself and is literally only a 12 minute stroll . It is busy in August but the rest of the year very calm. When the tide is in it is great to swim and when the tide is out, you are reduced to paddling and exploring the shore. Families with younger children will love it being wave free and very safe.

The ocean beach is just across the lagoon on the Island of Armona and is easily reached by a short, cheap and frequent ferry ride. The Ocean beach extends for miles so those seeking more peace and privacy can walk 10 minutes to have the beach almost to themselves!

The square as you walk into Fuzeta has many cafes selling tempting cakes and freshly cooked bread. There is a pizza bar, many different restaurants for meat, fish and chicken or try one of the traditional Portuguese dishes in the cafes along the waterfront. Smell the delicious chickens roasting on the BBQs on almost every street corner.

Fuzeta has a street market on Thursdays and a flea market on the first Sunday of the month.

For some strange reason Fuzeta has two train stations. The single line runs along the coast and stops in most of the towns so if you are looking to visit the many charming and historical towns then it is very cheap and easy. Why not take the train to Villa Real San Antonio on the Spanish border or one of the popular towns on the west side, all the way to Lagos.

There is a newly renovated produce market situated on the quay which is open every morning, except Sundays, where you can buy all your fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruit. On Saturday morning the market is surrounded outside by many smaller stall offering further local produce.

Also for all your other groceries, there is a large supermarket in Fuzeta that is open 7 days a week.

Having explored the cobbled back streets and through the houses you will come across all amenities from the bank to the post office, many little supermarkets, chemists, bakery, newsagents, tourist shops and cash point.

Every July there is a festival, a ceremony acting as a blessing for the town's fishermen for the coming year. Many boats participate and are decorated with flags and flowers all sounding their horns or hooters. The whole village is out in force and is a sight to see!

There are play parks and an artificial football pitch, an area where the locals play boules and at night in the peak of the summer the whole place is buzzing with families socialising and live bands playing.

OLHAO

Pronounced 'ol-ee-ow', Olhão is a busy modern town with a gem of a waterfront. Its fishing port is the most important in the eastern Algarve and its fish market is the biggest. Olhao recently opened a brand new shopping complex (Ria shopping) including 80 shops, a large supermarket, restaurants/bars and cinema. There is also kart racing in the underground car park here.

Olhao also has a new Auditorium.

Olhao also has many shops, restaurants and an entire summer festival devoted to sea food. Ameijoas - the king of clams - is both grown and eaten in abundance and is a 'must-try' entreé, as are conquilas. Olhão is very Portuguese, very Algarvian and very un-touristic. The pedestrian shopping area winds in cobbled streets through the moorish-looking old town to the waterfront with its markets (fruit, veg, meat, deli as well as fish), its cafe's, parks and sparkling views out over the Ria Formosa lagoons. From the pier, you can take boats to the island villages and beaches of Armona, Culatra and Farol - all great day trips. The official visitor centre for the Ria Formosa nature reserve is just outside Olhão. Its worth a visit to see: the restored tidal mill (of which there were once many in the Ria Formosa), the bird life, and the chance to spot the very rare symbol of the park, the Purple Galinule.

The Sea Food festival takes place in August and half of the water front gardens are closed off and turned into a massive gastronomic and entertainment delight. The sea food is plentiful and excellent, the entertainment is top class and the organisation great. Its a hugely popular event and deservedly so. Don´t miss it if you are here at the time.

Olhão highlights:

Sea food, sampled in any of the restaurants or bought to cook at home.

A coffee, a beer, a glass of wine in one of the market cafes looking over the lagoon.

Sea food festival in August - brilliant !

MONCARAPACHO

The old market town of Moncarapacho still has the old meeting square, where you can enjoy a meal or drinks with the locals. Its calm, unhurried atmosphere is the true Portuguese experience for the perfect location to enjoy your holiday. With festivals held regularly throughout the summer with live music and dancing.

The town offers all the necessary facilities; banks, post office, internet, supermarkets and other shops, petrol station, meat/fish/vegetable market, restaurants and plenty of pavement cafés. It even has its own tiny museum and pottery.

A restaurant in Moncarapacho that I would recommend is "COLIBRI". Try "Bife Na Pedra" which is steak on the stone!

TAVIRA

Tavira, 20 minutes away by car is a wonderful mix of the unexpected and the unusual. You will find a 13th century castle, the old gate of the city, a Camera Obscura, a magnificent Roman bridge, a beautiful garden with bandstand, and the old market hall which has been converted into a cafe/restaurant and craftshops' area. Then, there are the numerous churches for which Tavira is famous. Pick up your fresh fish, fruit and vegetables from the new local market and admire the salt pans where the famous Tavira salt is harvested. A picturesque ferry trip takes you to the island of Tavira from the riverside in the town, during the summer, or from the four aquas' jetty, in the winter.

The Barril beach, close to Pedras del Rei, Monte Gordo or Monta Rota are often voted as the best beaches if you want to go further afield.

FARO

Faro, the capital of the Algarve is a great place to visit for its history, particularly attractive is the old part of the city still surrounded by the Roman walls. It is the home to the city's archaeological museum. The "Golden" church contains the Macabre Spectacle of a chapel lined with the bones of 1,200 monks!

Walk through the quaint streets and in shops, traditional and old or simply while away the day relaxing in the cafes/bars. Down at the harbour there is always the hustle and bustle of the boats and the occasional fisherman.

There are water parks to the west, zoo marine where you can swim with the dolphins and go carting.

Train:

500m from nearest train stop (single track) linking to Vila Real Santo Antonio and Tavira (East), to Faro with its international airport and shopping centres (20 mins). Alternatively at Faro you can connect to the western Algarve or the fast train to Lisbon(3 hrs).

“Lovely appartment”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2015

Great appartment everything you need for a great holiday. Roof terrace & hot tub is excellent. Swimming pool isn't the best for young children, not enough seating on the bottom level to accommodate everyone. Swimming pool very cold. Overall an excellent appartment, but due to the pool, probably better for families with older children. We spent most of our days at the beaches which are brilliant.

“Total relaxation fantasti hot tub”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2013

I stayed here for 2 weeks with my husband and two teenage sons. The apartment was more than adequate with all the home comforts you could want, especially useful were the beach brollies and chairs, the boat trip to the beach was really good although quite busy in the mornings and the train to Barrell beach was also fun. We also played golf 4 times during our stay and the courses were all good and not too far away. Jane was very helpful and even arranged a taxi for us one day. The area is very nice and more traditional than the central Algarve area the bars and restaurants were all good value for money. The hot tub was a real treat and was very relaxing after the heat of the day.

“First class”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2013

The apartment was quite simply first class, views, cleanliness, position, amenities,it had everything,I would recommend this to anyone. The taxi was there to meet us and Jane was waiting at the apartment to show us around and tell us how to use all the equipment and she also gave us some groceries which was very much appreciated. Do not hesitate to stay here it is marvellous

“Fantastic apartment and location”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2012

We had a great time in this fantastic apartment. It was immaculate and very well equipped with amazing views. The village is really nice and the food in the restaurants was excellent especially if you are a fish lover. Also as its in an undeveloped area the prices were incredibly good value. The only negative we found was that on the walk to the village you have to pass a very neglected area with a broken sewer that stank and piles of dog poo. The locals don't seem to care much about the welfare of their dogs which as an animal lover I found hard to accept..

“peace, privacy, and amazing veiws !”

A lovely appartment with lots of room, when we first arrived we were met by jane who was very helpful and told us that this was one of the best appartments as it was not overlooked , esp from the roof terrace which allowed us to relax and enjoy our holiday , and enjoy the hot -tub with the odd glass of bubbly . The beaches near by were lovely , there were plenty of places to eat but we mostly cooked in the appartment ,fish, steak , prawns were amazingly cheap and gorgeous. The complex seems reasonably new and is done to a high spec . We would def consider returning to this appartment.

“Hope to go back soon!”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2011

The condo was breathtaking and very nicely located. An easy walk into town for dinner and drinks and a short drive to many nearby beaches. The beach at fuzeta though was our favorite! Nice and clean and good easy swimming. But on days when we didn't feel like dragging our stuff to the beach, the condo's comunal pool was clean and refreshing. Also, having your own private rooftop with hot tub made the experience all the better. Absolutely loved this place and can't wait to return to Portugal.
