“Stunning location and well placed”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2016

Lovely location next to the sea, visible from the living room window. The village was easily accessed by car with good roads. It was also well placed in terms of location and accessing the rest of the islands. The house was warm when it needed to be and the beds comfortable. The main areas were clean although the oven and fridge needed attention. The house had a lived-in feel to it with items left around the house belonging possibly to the owner such as food in cupboards and opened food in the fridge and a collection of half empty shampoo bottles in the shower. There was little space in the fridge for our food and this needed attention To get to the shower you had to open a hatch in the floor and climb down steep stairs to the basement which also housed the washing machine and other items belonging to the owner. Likewise to get upstairs you had to access another steep ladder / stairs which would not suit anyone with mobility problems or young children. As a base the house would be fine for anyone visiting the area but lacked the comfort for a longer stay.

Hi Rachel, I'm glad you enjoyed the views and the location of the cottage. It's true that the house is quite old now - built in 1926 - and doesn't necessarily have the comfort of a top hotel, but I hope that was made clear in the information pack I sent you prior to arrival, especially as regards the stairs, as I'd certainly agree that it's not suited to young children or the elderly. As regards the food and shampoo bottles, most of my guests have appreciated having some of these things on arrival, but I do take your point and will consider this for the future. If you do wish to return at any point, I'd be happy to offer you one free night during your stay. Kind regards, Duncan
