Description

Coach House dates from the 16th century and has been lovingly restored to keep many of the original features such as oak beams and flagstone floors. As well as a gorgeous place to stay in the spring and summer months Coach House has a lovely wood burning stove and heating throughout, also making it ideal for off autumn and winter lets. It offers a great holiday either for just relaxing by the pool or for discovering this wonderful area.

Our whole property is great for children, safe and enclosed with a play room and many toys. The village of Fully nestles in rolling countryside between the Chablis and Côte De Nuits vineyards, surrounded by wheat fields and sunflowers, forest and pasture. Its low rolling hills make it a beautiful area for walking and cycling. Opposite our house run both the Armançon river and the Burgundy canal, which offer wonderful access to the countryside, villages and restaurants.

In the summer, the area is full of cultural and community activity with numerous fêtes and music of all kinds. For children, as well as the beautiful countryside to explore, there are many attractions from animals (big cats, open farm visits) to theme parks (Disneyland Paris is an hour by TGV).

Location description from owner

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region

Burgundy is full of beautiful chateaux. In the neighbouring town of Ancy le Franc is one of the finest examples of the Renaissance period in Burgundy. The Abbey De Fontenay is a Cistercian monastery founded in 1118, and now a world class UNESCO heritage site. There are dozens of beautiful medieval villages in Yonne, none prettier than Noyers-sur-Serein featured as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages De France.
Bikes can be hired locally to cycle the canal or the quiet country roads. You can hire canoes and kayaks in the nearby village of Cry Sur Armançon, or cruise down the canal from Pouilly-en-Auxois. There are stables for horse riding nearby and plenty of golf courses like the Château de Tanlay,a 9 hole course 15 minutes away.
In Bourgogne a visit to a vineyard is a must, and with Chablis just half an hour away, you will have some of the best in the world on your doorstep. Many offer tours of the cellars and the winemaking process, and tastings are obligatory. You must try the Kir cocktail invented in Burgundy – a blend of local white wine form the Aligoté grape and Crème de Cassis. The Cremant de Bourgogne, the local sparkling wine can be every bit as good its neighbour Champagne. In the south the Côte De Nuits and Côte De Beaune vineyards are superb and make a wonderful day out. There are also many attractions for children in the area, like the Nigloland amusement park, and the Parc De L’Auxois at Arnay-sous-Vitteaux has a mixture of water slides, rides and animals from lemurs to zebras.

Fulvy

Fulvy is a medieval village in the heart of the Tonnerrois, in the Yonne region of Burgundy. The village is surrounded by wheat fields and sunflowers, forest and pasture. Its low rolling hills make it a beautiful area for walking and cycling. Opposite our house run both the Armançon river and the Burgundy canal, which offer wonderful access to the countryside, villages and restaurants.

The Tonnerrois is a land of Stone, Water, Forest, and Vineyards. It has a rich and varied heritage with beautiful churches, abbeys, Châteaux and Lavoirs (the ancient wash houses). This video gives a good introduction to the area.

The living heritage sites that you can visit range from pre-history (the cave paintings at Les Grottes d’Arcy-sur-Cure) through the Roman era (the great new museum at Alésia, where Caesar defeated Vercingétorix) the mediaeval period of monasteries and Abbeys (like the UNESCO world heritage site Abbey de Fontenay) to the era of the Dukes of Burgundy when the Duchy was one of the greatest independent powers in Europe.

The food and wine of course are exceptional. Fulvy lies between several world class wine growing regions – to the north Chablis, and to the south Côte De Beaune and Côte de Nuits. It is also the home of the Charolais cattle, a key ingredient in Boeuf Bourguignon, and wonderful cheeses like Époisses and Chaource.

“Perfect location to experience unspoilt rural Burgundy”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2012

The Coach House is one of 2 gites owned by Annabella and Nick Ware, who live in their house which adjoins The Coach House. The Coach House is a delightful property, it has all the features of a period property, beams, flagstone floors, thick stone walls and a fabulous open fireplace but is has all the comforts of home. Lovely linen, comfy sofas and TV that can pick up UK TV. The kitchen was the best equipped I have come across in 20 years of renting holiday properties. One of the nicest features is the huge enclosed garden which was perfect for children and the dog! We enjoyed sitting out outside for meals. There is also a play barn with table tennis and games. The other great attraction, especially for children, is the heated pool which our son loved splashing about in after a day out. One of the reason we choose Le Petit Village was its proximity to the Canal du Bourgogne, which did not disappoint. We were able to cycle along the tow path to Ancy Le Franc which is the nearest village and boasts a superb chateau. We intend to return to the region for more cycling. Other activities we enjoyed were a fantastic tree rope course, near Auxerre and kayaking at Lac De Pont near to Semur - en- Auxois. The Abbey de Fontenay is stunning and even our 8 year old was quite impressed. Chablis and the surrounding villages offer lovely scenery and great wine tasting! We managed to fill the car with a small lake of wine!! Annabella is a fantastic host, the notes provided are very comprehensive and all Nick and Annabella's suggestions for meals and activities proved just as described, from good value to gourmet meals, all were great. Beyond providing information both Annabella, Nick and their lovely children were so welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, Annabella rang up and arranged our dog's visit to the vet for example, which just made such a difference as our french falters when faced with phone calls!! Our son loved playing with Anya and Stephano and it was the icing on the cake of a wonderful holiday.
