“Not as good as it looks but OK”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

Stayed in the villa for 10 days in August. Its a nice villa but not as nice as depicted in the pictures, there is a major issue with bugs and cockroaches especially in the evening. I appreciate that in a hot climate you can expect some bugs but not the this extent, we had to spray bug spray on all entrance surfaces three times a day to control them. The wifi is shocking, it basically does not have wifi, and this was one of our main criteria when looking for a villa as we were holidaying with two teenagers whose phones are permanently stuck to their hands. The air con is also quite useless, it consisted of 2 mobile ac units, one in a bedroom and one in the living room, and a few fans. On a positive the Pool area is fab, a great size for a private pool and kitchen had everything needed for self catering. The location is Ok but it is a good 25 minute walk to the harbour. Also the agents who now look after the villa were lovely, very helpful and totally understood all of our issues and said they agreed and would raise them with the owner. Very disappointed in the lack of contact from the owner, we emailed him numerous times whilst at the villa and received no reply. In my opinion the villa is highly over priced, I would have less to complain about it I had not paid £150 per night - It is more in the region of £80.

I don't really know what to say to you because it seems you just didn't like the place. Very sorry about the cockroach and bug issues, that should never have happened and it's solely the fault of my previous agent, whom I trusted and who always assured me that the place was spotlessly clean etc. This issue is now being resolved in the form of a full fumigation for which a 10 day window was required which we now have. I think your comment about the villa not being as nice as depicted in the pictures is a bit unfair as the photos are not enhanced in any way. Also your comment about the wifi is also a little harsh. It's true that the speed would not be what you are used to in the UK, and this is due to the inferior cable infrastructure in the area, but it's perfectly adequate for emails, FaceTime, YouTube etc, the only thing it won't support is movie streaming. Your comment on the pricing of the villa is quite interesting because I'm sure you would have to look long and hard to find a 3 bed villa on the Costa Del Sol with a choice of 2 pools for €80 per night in August. When I set the prices I pitched mine at the very lower end of the price scale and indeed have been told by a previous guest that the villa was great value for money. Having said that you are entitled to your own opinion. In terms of you trying to contact me on several occasions I never actually received any emails from you which is why I didn't reply to you, but your comment in the review prompted me to look a little further and I have found an email from you in my junk files which I never check and I probably should because that has happened me before so I apologise to you for that. Overall I am sorry that the villa did not meet your expectations and hope that it didn't spoil your holiday to much. I would like to take this opportunity to assure all potential future guests that all issues that have arisen this summer as a result of my previous agents incompetence have been resolved by my new agents who are doing an excellent job taking care of the villa Peter

Such a lovely stay at this villa. Owner very helpful and genuine. The villa is in an 'Urbanisation' which is a newish property area, which is benefits from being close to local shops and amenities. But also far/safe enough away from the hustle from the front of Fuengirola beach. The walk to the very front of the marina / beach area takes about 25 minutes (with children) - we could have done it in 15-20 mins otherwise. We went down to Fuengirola several times and even at midnight, it was a bustling cosmopolitan area with childrens rides and entertainment going on, with families and children all having fun (at 12 midnight!) It's so hot during the day, everyones day shifts several hours. Bit bonkers, but great fun. The villa has lots of room for many people. With many separate areas, for a bit of separate time. My eldest daughter loved 'her' balcony. My other daughter loved her bedroom and the big pool. My son... don't think he left the villa pool much, in the whole 10 days we stayed. The villa has a lot to offer - with many gates/keys and a garage for a hire car. We would recommend a hire car for ease of getting to/from the villa, although not necessary if you haven't got teenagers (!) We all enjoyed our stay here and it was a real break. The views were sublime and the location fantastic. We would recommend to any family needing some time out. Did I mention the BBQ area which we used several times (overlooking the mountains and Fuengirola)? This villa offers a huge amount. Although new to the rental market, the owners did everything they could to make our stay perfect. Highly recommended.
