The England region

FRINTON AND WALTON - With miles of golden sand is only 300 meters away and is one of the safest places for children to play and swim anywhere in the British Isles. NAZE VISITOR CENTRE just opened end of 2016 has a tearoom. WALTON SWIMMING POOL - Is on the Bathhouse Meadow.WALTON PIER - The third longest pier in Europe, has a wealth of family entertainment including slot machines, rides, ten pin bowling and fishing for cod and flounders. Walton is much older than Frinton. Walton town grew because of the copperus collected there by the Victorians to make the then popular green ink..THE RED CRAG OF THE NAZE- Famous worldwide for it's fossils including the right handed whelk. Enjoyable walks along it's beaches and open heathland give the holiday maker the best of open country and seaside together, along with the land birds and sea birds. The Naze Tower is a well known landmark built for shipping by Trinity house in 1720..THE WALTON BACKWATERS - Are unique with many species of sea birds and seals, which can be seen from the sea wall path that stretches seven miles around the Naze, or they can be seen by boat..TICHMARSH MARINA - Is less than a mile away for the boating enthusiast ; it is also home to the restaurant Harbour Lights which provides a very nice well priced lunchtime carvery. Our favorite steak with a sea view is very enjoyable.

It is possible to manage without a car as the Station is near and bus service good, but to go further afield to Flatford Mill and Dedham (painted by John Constable) a car is a great asset.

We like to walk from Lawford Church to Flatford Mill along the valley for lunch on the river, maybe take a boat trip too.

Frinton-On-Sea

The surrounding Essex villages are delightful;-KIRBY-LE-SOKEN - Has cottages over three hundred years old and St Michael's church has a fine flint tower built in the 1400's, GREAT BENTLEY - Has the largest village green in England.GREAT HOLLAND - St. John's church has a fine medieval church tower.MANNINGTREE AND MISTLEY - Built along the Walls on the River Stour are very picturesque and famous for the swans..DEDHAM VALE - Has been immortalized by the paintings of John Constable. You can hire a rowing boat at Dedham and take a trip along the River Stour as far as Flatford Mill.

COLCHESTER - The oldest recorded town in England with it's medieval castle and Roman walls surrounding the town, also home to a vast array of shops and restaurants..HARWICH - Tucked away in the old town of Harwich is the Redoubt Fort built to keep Napoleon out in 1810. Along the sea front you will find the Low Lighthouse, now a maritime museum and the High Lighthouse that is open to the public at certain times..A little further along you will find the wooden structure of the old treadmill crane thought to have been used by French prisoners.

“Spacious family house near the beach”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2016

We stayed as a family of 4 in October half term. The house has off street parking for 2 cars and is in a quiet location near to Walton on the Naze seafront. It has 3 large bedrooms and a good size lounge with secluded garden. Great view of the rooks. There is a small shopping precinct nearby with everything you need. Milk and biscuits were ready for us on arrival thanks to the neighbours who hold the key. It was a comfortable stay. There is a well equipped kitchen and large table. Nearby there is the seafront, pier, frinton and Clacton. We also had a day trip to Colchester zoo. Thanks we enjoyed our short break.

“Comfortable, convenient and ideal for a family seaside holiday.”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2014

We felt immediately at home in Rook View which is a comfortable and welcoming house, very well-equipped for our self catering holiday. It is in an ideal situation for the traditional seaside holiday, with lovely sandy beaches with no distractions! The nearness of both Frinton and Walton-on-the-Naze however, ensures a variety of activities. The few minutes walk to the beach were a joy and the shopping centre in the opposite direction was ample for our needs. We ate out once, at the Chinese restaurant in Frinton where we had an excellent meal. We enjoyed sitting in the secluded and peaceful garden too, and admired the rooks each day at dusk. Helpful neighbours with lots of local knowledge contributed to our most enjoyable week. We have booked for another week this summer.

Owner's reply: Thank you for those kind words, so glad you have booked again for this year, nice to have you back. Kind Regards David and Val Sidey
