“Wonderful house, great holiday”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2016

We had a great holiday at La Maison Petite Creuse.. The owner, Alastair, has been very helpful. He answered all my questions before the holiday very quickly and with lots of detail, including how we should spend our first day as our flight landed early. A few weeks before the holiday, he sent a very comprehensive guide to the area with lots of suggestions of where to go and what to do, many of which we did - we tried all of his suggested patisseries.... On arrival at the house (following Alastair's very clear directions), we found a very nice welcome bottle of wine and some chocolate - very well received... The house is great and in a beautiful location, it has all mod cons (including a dishwasher....) and has great rustic charm. There is a very large garden with plenty of places for the kids to explore and some swings to play on. We even had cows in the field next door! We are a family of four and were very comfortable, the house can easily accommodate 7. The house is set in a very small hamlet a few minutes drive from Fresselines, it is very quiet, all you hear at night are the owls and crickets... The local lake beaches are great and only a short drive and we found plenty of things to do with the kids. I would recommend this house and this part of France to anyone, we had a fabulous holiday.

“Lovely house set in peaceful countryside”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2015

We spent 2 weeks during July in this wonderful place. The house is very charming, comfortable, clean and tranqill. Especially the big garden and the small river "Petit creuse" which is only 10 minutes walk away, we enjoyed a lot ! There are many interesting places and good restaurants to visit very close by. The owner is very helpful and friendly.

“Idyllic House and Gardens in a rural paradise”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2015

It would be difficult to find two more professional, efficient and delightful owners as Alastair and his Mother. All the booking procedures went extremely smoothly and Alastair demonstrated great care and attention to detail by maintaining contact with us in the run-up to our holiday. He also provided comprehensive details of local restaurants, places to see and much more, all prior to the holiday which really helps one to plan ahead if one wants to. A bottle of wine and chocolates on our arrival was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. Maison Creuse is a delightful property set in beautiful grounds/gardens and everything one needs is available in the house and in the gardens. The latter has beautiful trees, shrubs and flower beds and lots of secret hideaways that kids would love, including the hammock! The internal character of the house is wonderful and it is all beautifully furnished and with super comfortable beds If you are seeking a holiday base where you have the choice of perfect relaxation with all the amenities one could ask for as a couple or as a family with children from which you are in 'touching distance' of the magnificent river Creuse and the beautiful surrounding countryside and villages, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. We thoroughly recommend Maison Creuse to you and Alastair will make it that much more special.

“A very comfortable excellent house and garden in a tranquil rural setting”

This rates as one of the best holiday lets we have ever stayed in. It is very well equipped with with everything you need and everything is very good quality. The beds are very comfortable the garden is large sunny and private with plenty of trees for shade as required. Our lasting impression is of being able to relax surrounded by constant birdsong.

“Beautiful and charming farmhouse in tranquil surroundings”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2014

A beautiful, stunning, rustic farmhouse with lovely big garden and peaceful surroundings. Very well equipped with games e.g. table tennis, BBQ, swings, hammock, net (for badminton), garden furniture, 2 fairly old bikes( ok for a mile or 2 but not great on hills).Plenty of tea light lanterns for those lovely evenings in the garden by the fire pit. Very secluded with some great trees ( one very large fir tree good for climbing). Curious cows were the only overlooking neighbours. Very comfortable beds and lots of little extras to make it homely. Fresselines has a restaurant serving a nice lunch at good price and patisserie nearby good. Monet walk worth doing. Crozant beautiful with reasonable kayak hire at hotel du Lac. Gargilesse very pretty. La Celle Dunois beautiful too. Swimming at Fougeres Lac Chambon fairly quiet and has a little floating island you can swim out to. We went with our 15 year old son, and our 2 friends and we all really enjoyed it.

“Well-equipped gite in beautiful peaceful setting”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2013

Maison Petite Creuse was the ideal holiday rental for our party which consisted of two small children (4 and 18 months), their parents and grandparents. The house is well furnished, very child-friendly and comfortable, and the garden is ideal for all ages with plenty to occupy children of this age. The house is in a very peaceful location. The folder of local information was the best we have seen in a holiday house and an added bonus was the meals available to order from Alison, the caretaker - delicious!

“Home from home, amazing holiday in beautiful surroundings!”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2013

We stayed with our 3 young children and grandparents for a week in July. The house was beautiful and comfortable for our stay. I thoroughly recommend staying here as the owners have renovated the house to a high standard and provided extras to make your stay so comfortable. We found the communication and booklet advising of local things to do invaluable and helpful. The garden is beautiful and we enjoyed using the children's toys and games too. It is very rural but this suited us fine and felt completely relaxed during our stay.

“La Maison Petite Creuse was the most beautiful place I've stayed in all my trips to France”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2013

My husband chose this area to stay in because of the good reviews about mountain biking in the Monts de Gueret. If you are into biking and want family friendly, all ability routes with much to do besides, including swimming in rivers, walking and culture, but also want fantastic quality , value for money accommodation, I would highly recommend staying at la Maison Petite Creuse. We had a great week, first week in July, the weather was good, just one wet day. The Monts de Gueret region is about 20 to 40 minutes drive from the house, but there is plenty to cycle to to see from the door too. It is however very rural and very quite at this time of the year, even the little patisserie was closed the week we were there, as was the next nearest and the depot de pain at the little restaurant quickly ran out of bread so we couldn't get fresh bread and croissant for breakfast everyday which was a minor disappointment. The house was lovely, well equipped and very comfy and the garden beautiful. The little welcome extras, tea, coffee, wine and chocolate were also a nice touch. However the all important laminated sheet of important instructions was not prominently displayed and we didn't find it until the Tuesday of our stay!

“Outstanding in every way”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2012

My family and I (including 3 small children) spent a week here in July and had an absolutely wonderful time. The gite was spotless when we arrived, the housekeeper had left fresh flowers, and a few veggies form her garden. There was a lovely bottle of wine and chocolate too which was a lovely welcome. The information and recommendations provided by Alastair the owner were obviously well thought through and really from experience with detailed descriptions of activities, locations and directions which I would recommend following to the letter. The gite was incredibly well appointed and even had toys for the kids as well as adults and is reality is even more picturesque than the photos on the web. I would highly recommend a visit. Sam

“An excellent location in a quiet and beautiful part of France”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2012

We stumbled upon this holiday rental through hours of browsing the internet in search of a decent location for our vacation. The correspondence between the English owner and us went very fast and good. A booking was arranged quickly and we received all the information needed. Upon arriving at the house, we quickly saw that this was going to be an ideal stay. We were located at the end of a dead end street, in a completely quiet and peaceful little village called Fresselines. The house was very clean, all comfort and conveniences were there to make our stay as great as we wanted: nice, clean and large bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, an absolutely beautiful and large garden for the kids to play in,... There's a lot of attention to detail, as the house is beautifully adorned with little paintings, candles and other trinkets. It all makes the sense of excellence stronger. Beforehand, we received a lot of information from the owner on what to do in the surrounding villages. That really helped a lot and spared us time to look up stuff ourselves. In all, we've had a very lovely vacation at this place. For those of you looking for beautiful surrondings, peace, quiet and an excellent place to stay: don't wait any longer and book 'La Petite Maison Creuse'!
