Description

Little Moon Cottage sits on a leafy lane at the foot of Tennyson Down with woodland to the front and rolling countryside to the rear. The garden stretches out towards the wooded slopes of the down in an AONB. It's lovely to sit at the picnic bench at the end of the garden with a drink in the evening, watching the sun go down and perhaps see an owl swooping over the field, a badger digging for worms or a red squirrel on the bird feeder.

The interior of the cottage is cosy and comfortable. The bright dining area or the sunny seats by the patio doors allow you to enjoy your meal with a lovely view of the garden or if you prefer to eat outside there is a sheltered patio with table and chairs. If you don't fancy cooking, the pub is just a five minute walk up the lane and has good food.

The Island has many walks with spectacular views, Little Moon Cottage is close to the Coastal Footpath and you can walk along the down to Alum Bay and the Needles or to Freshwater Bay

Location description from owner

The England region

They say the Isle of Wight is 'stuck in the fifties' and it's true that the Island retains much of it's old-world charm with it's quiet country lanes and chocolate box villages. On the other hand, the Island is very modern with it's pop festivals and many sporting events and activities.

The Island enjoys a milder sub-climate than most other areas of britain and more than half, mainly in the west, is designated as the Isle of Wight Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Island wildlife is remarkable, and it is one of the few places in England where the red squirrel is flourishing. The Glanville Fritillary butterfly is found only on the edges of the crumbling cliffs of the Island.

There are spectacularly beautiful walks, quiet roads for cycling, busy beaches, grand historic buildings, steam trains, amusement parks - you name it, there is something to suit visitors of all ages and temperaments.

Freshwater

Freshwater and Totland are located at the western tip of in the Island in the 'West Wight'. It is a quiet, rural area surrounded by sea on three sides with dramatic coastlines dominated by the chalk downland ridge which runs across the Island and ends at The Needles. The picturesque estuary of the River Yar runs along the fourth side.

The area is perfect for walking, cycling, surfing, playing golf or relaxing on the beach . There are many local attractions such as Alum Bay coloured sands, the Needles pleasure park and Fort Victoria country park which includes a marine aquarium, a planetarium and a model railway.

Local events include the Freshwater and Totland Carnival and the Yarmouth 'Old Gaffers' Festival. In late spring you can 'Walk the Wight' or participate in other less demanding organised walks during the walking festival.
