A farmhouse table is perfect for family meals. Moving through to the open plan lounge, passing a downstairs toilet and double bedroom on the way, both ideal for the mobility impaired, the main seating area is drenched in natural light from large French doors and traditional windows as well as two velux windows. With comfortable sofas, antique furniture and warm oak floors, guests can relax with a selection of books and DVDs, watch the large screen TV with Satellite and Freeview, or just gaze out at the garden watching farm animals grazing in the fields beyond.

The sense of space and light continues as you access the next level on which will be found the cool, luxury bathroom with wood panelling, designer bath, heated slate floor and wet room with invigorating power shower which positively encourages indulgence and relaxation. Beyond, is the peaceful second bedroom whose considerable size amply accommodates twin four-poster beds. This level is completed by a utility room with central heating boiler and washing machine.

Up a few more steps reveals the third bedroom containing a king and single bed making it ideal as a family room. All three bedrooms are tastefully colour-coordinated and have warm, solid oak floors and dressing tables. Two of the bedrooms have sizeable wardrobes and TVs.

Outside

A walk outside reveals a tranquil and sheltered patio leading to large lawn with several features provided by our friendly and hospitable neighbours for the more energetic: trampoline, swings, even a pirate ship! Beyond the garden is a woodland walk with picnic area and, eventually, the sea. The garden is overlooked by a completely unique tower offering commanding views across the hamlet and fields beyond. Whether it's to read, eat, keep an eye on the children playing or enjoy an evening drink, this unusual feature makes a stay at West barn truly unforgettable.

Getting around

The roads in Pembrokeshire and excellent and uncongested. Even Tenby, by far the busiest and most popular destination in the county, offers enough parking even in the height of Summer. As an alternative, why not park in nearby Lamphey for free and take the bus or train? There are regular services to Pembroke, Tenby and beyond. Tenby station is just five minutes from the town centre and seven minutes from the beach.

Interaction with guest

On arrival you can expect to find a welcome pack with tea, coffee and maybe a few extras! There is also a book explaining the house, the local area and a wealth of leaflets and books to help you choose where to visit. Guests enjoy the total seclusion which the cottage offers, but with the knowledge that our neighbours are usually on hand to help out if you should have any difficulties. Many guests take advantage of their hospitality and have reported borrowing bikes and canoes while for some, the highlight of their stay was when their children were given rides on the horse!

“There is no better place to spend a holiday in Pembrokeshire!”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2013

We loved the house (completely renovated, large kitchen, huge bathroom with shower and bath, 3 bedrooms and a lovely living room), and the wonderful garden - not only the kids (10 years) enjoyed the huge playground with Tarzan swing and zipp wires and a water slide... Of course the location in Freshwater East Lake is just perfect for days on the beach, and also to visit places in Pembrokeshire. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the coastal path and 20 minutes to Fershwater East bay. Andrew and his family were absolutely great, and made us feel at home from the very first day! So yes: absolutely 5 stars !!!!!

“Superb accomodation. Amazing garden. Fantastic hosts.”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2013

We had an excellent holiday this year. The children absolutely loved the garden and were occupied on the zip slides, trampoline, swings and playing football in the more than ample garden. The beach was beautiful and quiet. We managed to play tennis and cricket, rock pool, swim, surf, climb, as well as about five minutes of reading and relaxing. Andrew and his family were excellent hosts, offering us the use of bicycles, boats and other beach related things. Dylan, our eldest son, 9, stated that it was the best holiday ever! We would thoroughly recommend this property.

Many thanks for your great review. Future guests please note: I have spoken to our neighbours who owned the zip wire but sadly they have become concerned over users' safety. I have to admit I was never brave enough to ride it! If it gets reinstated I'll add it back into the property description but I cannot delete references to the zip wire in past reviews as I'm not allowed to edit them - naturally! Don't worry - all the other garden activities are there! Dave Langton
