Location description from owner

The England region

Cornwall is a place of dramatic extremes. The North Coast with its splendid beaches and rugged towering cliffs fending off the Atlantic. It's towns of St Ives (90mins away) and the Tate will stretch your imagination. Padstow (45mins) is the home of Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant and Port Isaac (40mins) hosts ITV's Doc Martin with Martin Clunes. In the middle lay the moors, its mines and and the great industrial steam engine heritage. The city of Truro has 800 years of history. It also contains in proportion the most independent shops anywhere. The South Coast warmed by the Gulf Stream has many world renowned Gardens. Penzance (90min) is the gateway to the Isles of Scilly, Falmouth (60 mins) is the great maritime centre, across the Carrick Roads lays St Mawes and the delightful Rose Peninsular.Across our bay is Charlestown where the four master ships berth, the setting for numerous films including Disney this summer2011. To the east step back in time with Polperro and Looe and finally Plymouth and its old maritine quarter the Barbican. Look out here for the last remaining wall mural of Robert Lenkiewicz the larger than life and death painter. By reputation you could be related to him. Well worth googling.

Fowey

Fowey, pronounced foy is the jewel in the crown with its winding streets and whitewashed houses going down to the water. It's bustling harbour has every type of sea-craft. From working boats to luxury yachts, freighters being pulled down from up river, to cruise liners such as The World disembark their passengers to visit the nearby Eden Project. Royal Fowey Regatta week is held in August. Fowey and it's surrounding area has been an inspiration to many artists and writers. None more so than Dauphne Du Maurier and her books Rebecca and Frenchmans Creek. A week long festival is held in her memory in May. Explore the river by renting a boat , take a cruise boat or perhaps a supervised kayak expedition to visit the inlets and villages on the river. Forget the car for the day and take the passenger ferry to Mevagissy and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Nearby is Polkerris and its gently shelving sandy beach and rockpools. With a watersports centre, pub and a rare quality fresh food beach restaurant, the opportunity to paddle after should not be missed.

“Our Stay”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2012

We had a great great time in this wonderful out of the way barn conversion. The work on the barn is to such a high standard and the whole place was perfect. The large bathroom with a huge walk in shower and a Sky TV was pure luxury, we had bath robes and lovely flowers, it is the best place we have ever stayed in, truly fantastic, it will not disappoint.
