The Tuscany region

Sitting with a chilled glass of wine in the fabulous infinity pool and gazing at the magnificent and dramatic scenery of Garfagnana can only but take one's breath away. Of the Villas for rent in Tuscany La Collina del Sole is a haven of escapism from today's busy world and the perfect destination for spending relaxed lazy days in this enchanting yet unspoilt corner of northern Tuscany. For the more energetic and the culture vultures, however, there is plenty to keep you busy if you can draw oneself away from the extraordinary cocoon that is La Collina del Sole. Mountain hikes, discovering the villages and hidden beauty of Garfagnana can be combined with trips to the nearby coast whilst the magical city of Lucca with its sophisticated shops, numerous churches and relaxed Italian feel is within easy reach.

Forte di Marmi a luxury resort town on the Mediterranean sea is within one hour's drive. Torre del Lago, 15 minutes West of Lucca and just North of Pisa, has an open air theatre overlooking Lake Massaciuccoli devoted to the performance of the works of Italian composer Giacomo Puccini whose operas include La bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot

Fosciandora

La Collina del Sole is located in North West Tuscany overlooking the Carrara mountains where Michael Angelo personally chose each marble block to create all of his statues including the David located in Florence (2 hours by car or train). The national park is dotted with small villages and inexpensive restaurants serving exceptional food. There are great walks offering easy rambles or challenging climbs. The nearby market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is a bustling town of 6,000 people that hosts a traditional market on Thursday mornings and is full of family owned shops selling fresh produce. Barga with its Romanesque cathedral is another jewel of our area. From June through to late October there are a series of exhibitions and festivals celebrating the local culture and artisanal production. Italy literally explodes with "Festas".

“A lovely holiday villa in a beautiful area”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2015

The villa and pool were both extremely well maintained. The house was very well equipped and the bedrooms very comfortable. Despite the August heat the house stayed cool and comfortable. The pool was really fantastic, in an amazing setting. We really enjoyed eating on the terrace and using the pizza oven. Both the owner and local housekeepers were extremely responsive to our needs and very friendly. We found many places to visit and things of interest in the local area. The only slight downsides were the mosquitos in the evenings and distance of the kitchen to the table outside but these would not stop us returning for another holiday. The distance of the pool from the house and number of steps means this property may not be ideal for families with very young children.

It was a real pleasure to look after you, I am so happy you found all you wanted at the villa and even managed to do a great Pizza bake off :-) The team loved looking after you, sorry about the mosquitoes this year they were particularly persistent and once they find a openning through the moskito net canopies ... We look foward to welcoming you back I am finding out new and wonderful walks in the chestunut woods around us and mountain trails in the Carrara marble hills that you see from the villa. See you soon ! Chrissie

“Stunning views from a tranquil and comfortable setting.”

We had an amazing week at Collina Del Sole - couldnt have asked for a better place to be. The views of the surrounding tuscan hillside are breathtaking - the huge pool and surrounding terraces are a prime spot for relaxing and taking in that awesome view. House was perfect and very comfortable and the meal cooked by Maria and Gessica was fantastic. All in all the perfect chill out spot.

It was a privilege to welcome you to La Collina del Sole, the team loved looking after you and I loved helping out with suggestions of the best restaurants near us and the best places of interest taking into account the time of year. So glad the infinity pool was such a welcome relaxing part of the day. We very much look forward to welcoming you back and helping you plan a new itinerary making the most of the beautfiul walks around the area, A presto Chrissie

“Beautiful, restful place”

Reviewed 6 Aug 2015

We stayed two weeks this time (our second trip), and we are still enchanted with the place. Beautiful place, view and people. The staff is very helpful and charming, although we may have to learn a few words in Italian for next stay:) 20 minutes drive to either a well stocked supermarket or a small, quaint town with good local food shops. The one thing we do miss here are restaurants/shops within walking distance, but as long as you don't mind a little drive there are numerous great alternatives. Would especially recommend Trattoria di Bonini on the way to Palerosa - great food and atmosphere. We chose to avail ourselves of both the pizza cooking class in-house (which was both fun for the whole family, and tasted great), in addition to taking a trip to Modena to look at super-cars. Both are highly recommended, but make sure you plan and book any visits/tours in Modena. The owners, Chrissy and Andrew, are also an example to follow when it comes to communication and helpfulness!

Thank you for returning to La Collina del Sole, the team loved seeign you all again and meetign the new family member! It was great that you had a proper chance to enjoy the great weather and have a good rest. I will check out the Modena trip places, and am also checking out a few really fun "must see" places to experience and restaurants to visit, in order to have a new list of enticing choices for yoru next visit, see you soon.
