The Lochaber region

The lodge is situated on The Great Glen Way, the famous walk from Fort William to Inverness or visa versa.

The area is very popular with walkers, climbers, cyclists and photographers to name but a few.

The main water sports centre is located just three and half miles away, here you can participate in white water rafting, river rafting, safari, canyoning, gorge walking, kayaking, rock climbing and abseiling, mountain biking and more!

Purpose built Loch Side access is only available for our private guests with Free Fishing from the shores of Loch Lochy. Small boats and caonoes can also be launched from here. A Fishing Ghillie Service is available for our guests and Fishing Equipment can be hired.

Fishing Permits for surrounding rivers and lochs and for Salmon Fishing can also be arranged

The lodges site and surrounding area have an abundance of visiting birds and wild life, Golden Eagles, Osprey, Sea Eagles, Buzzards, Red Deer, Seka Deer to name but a few.

But even more exciting, we are very fortunate to have a family of resident Pine Martens, Britains second most rarest mammal, they visit the feeding station on each of the veranda's to find their favourite treat of Peanut Butter, Jam or even a raw egg. They are here through out the day but are much more active during the early to late evening.

Fort William

The nearest shop that sells just about everything is 3 miles away, nearest fuel station 3 and half miles away.

The nearest pub in walking distant is The Eagle Inn on the Water, a floating Dutch Barge this is seasonal, open February to end October.

The Invergarry Castle Hotel serving excellent traditional Scottish food with a traditional Scottish welcome is only 3 and half miles as is the Invergarry Hotel, also serving excellent Highland Fayre.

Further north 10 miles, is Fort Augustus, a small village but very popular with tourists, bursting with shops, hotels, restaurants, not to mention the opportunity to watch the boats go through the loch system into Loch Ness.

Further north is Drumnadrochit, 30 miles, Inverness. 47 miles.

Heading south from the lodges is Spean Bridge, 12 miles, 2 Hotels, a restuarant,

Anoch Mor, 15 miles, excellent Ski Centre and the famous Down Hill World Mountain Bike Championships is held here.

On to Fort William, 26 miles from the lodges, here is the base of Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in Great Britain, 4406 ft!

"Wonderful, didn't want to leave, stayed an extra night"

Wonderful stay in Heather Lodge. Claire and Ian were very welcoming and friendly with lots of local knowledge. The lodge is just as described on the website, had everything we needed along with amazing views over loch lochey to the mountains beyond. On arrival the place was spotlessly clean and nice and warm as the heating had been fired up for our arrival. Heather Lodge is the last in the row of lodges so very private. Access wise it is rural and we were a tad worried we had taken the wrong turn but we kept following the instructions on the website and got there no problem (the road goes from two-way traffic, to single track, to track). Also very dog friendly, we will be visiting again in the future.

"Nothing less than the absolute perfection"

Well, we were to arrive quite late in the dark and it was a bit of shambles to find the right way but once you get there you find that it was all worth it. It was dark therefore we could not really recognise the heavenly scenery opened in front of us. The cottage was a nice a cute, perfect for the nature of the stay we were searching for. Very warm with a view at the loch. All utilities provided and all essentials as well. Everything was perfect. In the next morning we opened the curtains and we realised how great the location is. During our stay for the next two days, we enjoyed a lot of the surroundings and even went to see the Loch Ness. In a few words everything was perfect and the owners were very nice and warm people. I would recommend it to anyone who asks me.

Dear Guests, Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the opportunity to write this positive review. We strive to ensure that our guests enjoy their stay with us, it is always rewarding to have confirmation of this. Many, Many Thanks Ian & Caire
