There are shops in the village for all the essentials as well as great pubs and restaurants for eating out. The area is wonderful for walking, taking cruises on the Loch and visiting the stunning castles of the Scottish Highlands. A boat trip can be taken to Urquhart Castle from the landing stage next door to the Abbey.

Only 30 minutes away is the Nevis Range near Fort William. Walk up Ben Nevis (highest mountain in the British Isles) or view the amazing mountains from the gondolas (chair lifts). Mountain biking and Snowsports also take place here.

Location description from owner

The Loch Ness region

Fort Augustus is half-way between Inverness and Fort William. It is ideally situated for sight-seeing the beautiful Scottish Highlands and stunning castles, such as Urquhart (25 mins away) and Eilean Donan (1 hour away).

In the Nevis Range of mountains near Fort William, there is Ben Nevis of course, the highest mountain in Britain. If you don't fancy the walk up - you can take the famous Gondola Ride (chair lift) nearby, which transports you from 300 feet to 2150 feet up the north face of Aonach Mor (8th highest mountain in Britain).
Famous for its Mountain Biking, the Nevis Range also has snowsports in the winter.

Fort Augustus

The Landing Stage of the leisurely Royal Scot boat cruise is just a 2 mins walk away from the Abbey.
For exciting Nessie Hunting trips, take the very fast RIB boat with its underwater cameras.

There are several pubs and restaurants in the village and also The Boathouse Restaurant in the grounds of the Abbey (on the Loch side itself and a short walk away).
Ceilidh dancing also takes place in the summer months - with live music in the village hall.

“A very relaxing stay”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2012

We had a very relaxing stay in the Livingstone apartment in Fort Augustus. Swimming pool, sauna, steam room and tennis courts were all made very good use of. One of our favorite things we did was go walking in Glen Affric - stunning scenery and we had great weather on that day. We also treated ourselves to a very posh and very lovely lunch at Inverlochy Castle near Fort William. Also enjoyed meal at the Lovart Inn. The apartment was immaculate, lovely welcome package and very well kept.
