The Angus region
The Angus Glens provide some of the best hill-walking in Eastern Scotland, fine walks up Balmashanner Hill and around Forfar Loch. Glen Isla, Glen Prosen and Glen Clova, all of which have good walks at different levels.
Fishing is available locally at Rescobie, Finavon and the Esk river.
As well as the local golf courses at Forfar and Kirriemuir, the championship courses at Carnoustie and St Andrews are within easy driving distance, even Glen Eagles only an hour or so away. A driving range with cafeteria, is located on the northern edge of Forfar.
Pleasant sandy beaches include those at Luann Bay and at St Cyrus, which is a Nature Reserve. Bird-lovers will be in heaven at the Scottish Wildlife Trust visitor centre which overlooks the tidal bay at Montrose; whatever the season, there are seabirds and water birds of many kinds.
In the winter months sk-ing and snowboarding are close-by at Glenshee.
If sport is not your thing there are a number of historical buildings and castles in the surrounding areas, with the magnificent Glamis Castle and Angus Folk Museum under six miles from Lochlands park. Along the coast Arbroath Abbey was where the Declaration of Independence was signed by Robert the Bruce and his nobles in 1320.
Situated in the heart of the Strathmore Valley, between the Sidlaw Hills and the Grampian Mountains, Forfar stands in the centre of the Birthplace of Scotland. Forfar is within easy commuting distance being only 20 minute drive from Dundee, with Aberdeen and Perth just over an hour away, an immense area steeped in history and culture. Whisky distilling and great local food, on the doorstep, making us ideal base to experience the countryside with all it has to offer.
