Kendal is an old market town situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the country – the English Lake District. Kendal is also within 30 minutes drive of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, making it a perfect base for walkers and sightseers alike. The town's unique blend of history, culture and shopping make it a very popular destination for visitors. There are attractions for all ages, fascinating museums, modern and historic art and a variety of leisure facilities. The shopping is diverse with many High Street names but the town is known particularly for specialist shops – quality independent traders offering a range of goods unrivalled anywhere in the Lake District. For many years Kendal was one of the most important wool towns in the country, even more important than West Yorkshire. The town was also a stopping off point for cattle drives from Scotland as well as a very important market (which still continues today). Kendal is also famous for Kendal Mint Cake, K Shoes and Kendal Minfest a street festival which takes place in September every year. Its a great place to visit which is why its no surprise that it has been voted the second best place to live in England according a list compilied by The Sunday Times.

- Very Good
Stayed here in January and had a fantastic stay. It was warm and cosy with a lovely open fire prepared for us just to light, the rooms were spacious and clean and there were little extras in the kitchen that was a bonus ( milk, bread, coffee etc). Great country side retreat but not far from local attractions and towns to visit and I would definitely stay again.
“An amazing farmhouse stay”
A really lovely, spacious farmhouse and Helen was an extremely friendly host. the fireplace was great and really kept us warm in the evening. it is in a good location as well about 10 minutes drive from the nearest town and only a short drive from Windermere.
“enjoyed the stay”
clean ,nice and comfortable cottage in a beautiful countryside farm.enjoyed the stay very much. Even the owners were very nice people.would highly recommend the place.went with a group of friends but would also recommend the place for families.PERFECT!!
“Bring everything you need, it's lovely here”
Great location, property, landlady. Definitely recommend, we had a great time! A bit in the middle of nowhere though, so bring a car because taxis are pricey unless split between a big group.
“A beautiful farm in the middle of heaven.”
A beautiful farm in the middle of heaven. We were a family of 6 ranging from 8 yrs to 67- everyone loved it! The setting is magical with kittens, dogs, sheep and horses, a wonderful welcoming 'home from home' with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Lovely touches such as the welcome pack of biscuits, bread, milk and tea, toiletries and the fire ready made for those cooler evenings. Fantastic and can't wait to return. Thank you. X
“Chilled out, comfortable and really enjoyed .. Amazing xx”
Just returned from a 3 night stay at AShstead farmhouse, what can I say, this is my second time here the first weekend was a girly weekend a few months back and this one with my children, my sister in law and my brother and his daughter, we all had a fabulous time.. Kids loved seeing the animals and playing out in the fresh air, mostly rained whilst there but we never let it get in the way of having family fun, boat trip in Windermere and a lovely trip into the beautiful town of Kendal. Enjoyed cozy nights by the fire, big thanks to Helen who cannot do enough for her guests and makes you feel so welcome... Can't wait to get back there soon xxxx
“Amazing cottage with easy access to the Lake District”
We a party of 8 had a wonderful Easter break staying at this cottage with real farm animals just outside our windows. With an extremely spacious living room with a proper fireplace and all the firewood, kindling, and coal all provided. Helen even taught us how to light a proper fire the first night and our next two days were warm and cosy. We were content just watching the fire we didn't even turn on the telly. One random requirement one of my friends put down whilst cottage searching was that the cottage must have a piano, and this cottage has a piano for whoever else has such requirements. Kitchen was well equipped. We were welcomed with biscuits and cookies, a big Easter egg chocolate and with milk in the fridge. Also equipped with washer and dryers. There were amenity packs provided with hotel-sized shampoo, shower gel, soap etc which was also a very nice touch. If you love cats, there is this one adorable cat that was really adamant to get through the kitchen window, getting its head stuck in through in the kitchen whilst we were cooking. They also have a tendency to jump into the car with you so check before you drive off! Helen probably wouldn't be too happy if you cat-napped her cats. Overall really satisfied with the cottage and all the little touches that has been provided. Highly recommended.
We stayed for 4 days over Christmas with our family. The cottage was a good size for four adults and three children and was well equipped. Although it is located on a single track road so long as you have a plentiful supply of food, wine and firewood you will have a great time. Helen was very friendly and left us to our own devices but was on hand if needed.
Beginning thank Ms. Helen on hospitality,And the fact that I am impressed and my family the beauty of the cottage was the most beautiful images of the Tripadvisor,Has been providing all our needs from kitchen utensils, towels and toiletries,As Ms. Helen kindly provide Wi-Fi with that it has a non-binding. Finally, I thank Ms. Helen and her family for their kindness and hospitality.
“an oustanding family adventure. the best way to experience farm life in 5 star accomandation.”
We came from Israel for a week in the lake district and another week in London with 3 children (10,6,1) We had sone doubts because the location is not in the center of of the attraction area etc. but when we arrived we were stunned by the special atmosphere and the cleanliness of the place. There was plenty room for everything we needed and much beyond. There is a dining room, a living room, a piano room, 3 bedrooms and of course a kitchen all watching the beatiful views of the area. The children had fun with the farm animals and we also went on a trail that started right from the farm. Helen and her family were there all the time with suggestions for hikes, help with every issue and just friendly talking..very very recommended! we were crying when we needed to leave...
