Nearby are lots of walks including the riverside park with its fishing and children's play area. Lovely and cosy for 2 or why not bring the family or come with friends.

Amble Back is a real home from home, the contemporary furnishings offer modern convenience within a character cottage dating back to the 1880s. Snuggle up before an open fire, some logs provided watching the flat screen freeview TV or a DVD. Relax on our comfy sofa or rocking chair whilst listening to your music through our Bluetooth speaker. After dinner why not read a book or play one of the games you will find on the shelves.

The beautiful handmade kitchen is fully equipped with a full size cooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave. There is colourful Orla Keily crockery in the cupboards with lots of cookware should you choose to eat in at the table for four. To get you started we include tea, coffee, and other larder items free for your use as well as the practical things, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls etc. If you prefer to eat out there is a choice of pubs and cafes all within easy walking distance. Alternatively, you can drive a short distance to the delightful New Forest pubs or the numerous restaurants, cafes and pubs in Ringwood or Salisbury.

The kitchen opens into a small porch area, ideal for coats and boots. This leads onto the patio with a dining table for four. There is a lawn for relaxing with a couple of comfy loungers provided. We have games for the children and a BBQ for those alfresco meals. A mature ash tree provides part of the garden with welcome dapled shade in the summer. The garden is fenced.

On the first floor is the seaside family bathroom with a shower and bath. Luxury towels are included in your stay. The spacious double bedroom has a comfortable kingsize bed with feather duvet and pillows (synthetic if preferred), fresh cotton linen compliments the bright décor. There are 2 wardrobes and ample shelf space for your clothes. A hair dryer and hot water bottle will be found in the wardrobe.

Ascend to the second floor to find the fun attic den with 2 single beds that can be pushed together. With lots of alcoves and funky lighting the room is a delight to children and adults alike. The rooflight looks out over the garden, the beautiful ash tree and stunning sunsets.

Situated on a side road there is on street parking less than 5 meters away. We also provide a permit for the car park 5 minutes walk away which is valid across all New Forest car parks, making a great saving on parking charges for the whole holiday.

Amble Back books up fast. If your chosen dates are not available, have a look at our other cottage, Little Terraces, a one bedroom holiday home in Downton. As you will see we offer all you need for a great holiday.

We are sorry but this cottage is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties. Please be aware that the stairs to the attic room are steep. Smoking is not permitted anywhere at the property.

Location description from owner

The England region

Amble Back is on the outskirts of Fordingbridge. It is perfectly located for the pubs, shops and cafes on the High Street. There is a wide variety of delicious places to eat in or take away. Indeed there is an Indian restaurant just a stone throw away. Just a 10 minute stroll and you will come to the riverside park with its play area with swings, slides and climbing frames as well as paddling pool, pirate ship and trampolines. There is a riverside walk and kiosk for great coffee and cake! Day tickets can be bought for fishing. You can even BBQ there. No need to move the car, everything you need is close by, a short level walk takes you to the historic High Street.

Fordingbridge

Fordingbridge is a pretty town situated on the River Avon and on the edge of the New Forest. With lots of lovely walks nearby too it is perfect for those who like things close at hand but also easy access to the countryside. The New Forest is delight with its wild ponies, cattle, deer and, in autumn, pigs. Each season is different, from the greens of spring, glorious purple heather in summer, the golds in autumn and, if you are lucky, beautiful white snow in winter.

Children and adults love the New Forest Water park, just 5 minutes in the car. Lots of things to do including water skiing, kayaking and a huge amount of fun on the large inflatables!

Close by you have the market town of Ringwood and mediaeval city of Salisbury with an awe inspiring cathedral.

The beach is 30 minutes away, lovely and sandy, there are a number to choose from.

From shopping to sight seeing, to walking, cycling and horse riding, to sitting on the beach or boating there is so much to do you will need to come back again!

“Beautiful cottage with lovely touches”

Reviewed 26 Mar 2016

We have just returned from this beautiful cottage with Sue the owner there to meet us and show us how everything worked . There were fresh flowers , a bottle of wine in the fridge and an Easter Egg on our grandsons bed , lovely touches to make us welcome. Sue also told us to use the store cupboard which had tea , coffee, condiments , sauces etc. And a freezer with ice-cream, chips and other extras. Very thoughtful and welcome. I would have no trouble recommending this cottage even though I would like to keep it to ourselves!! Thank You Sue for sharing your cottage and making us feel special.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words. We are delighted you had a good holiday. It was lovely to meet you, hopefully you can return one day so your grandson can enjoy another stay in the attic den, looking at the stars. Sue

“Amble back easily met our high expectations”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2016

as we had stayed in Sue`s other cottage so felt sure that Amble Back would be among the best we have stayed in ,and it was ! It felt cosy , but plenty of space for the 2 of us (and a dog ) and was equipped to a high standard. There are numerous personal touches .....lovely pictures etc that appear to have been carefully chosen and the flowers were lovely. We loved being able to walk into Fordingbridge but also found lovely places to visit, such as Mottisfont near Romsey and can recommend the Wooden Spoon in Downton ...great food and dog friendly . We certainly hope to return !

Owner's reply: We were delighted to welcome you to Amble Back following your earlier stay at Little Terraces. Thank you for your kind words. We are so pleased you liked all that the cottage and Fordingbridge have to offer. Hope to see you again. Sue

“gorgeous, comfy, well equipped, cosy cottage, didn't want to leave!”

Reviewed 19 Jan 2016

Absolutely lovely place, couldn't ask for more. Sue was more than accommodating and couldn't do enough to make sure we had a wonderful stay. The cottage is open plan and filled with lovely artistry and colourful curtains/cushions and bedding, it really lifted my spirits on a cold January w/e. Lovely to have an open fire too, we snuggled up on the sofa and stayed in. However Fordingbridge has shops, cafes, pubs, museums a plenty and being in the New Forest offers plenty of beautiful walks. We did eat at The George pub which has a relaxing ambience and the food was good. Peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake not for the faint hearted though ....

Owner's reply: Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are glad you enjoyed your weekend away and it brighten up January. Come again in the Spring when you can see more of the lovely surrounding countryside and perhaps sit outside at The George, next to the river.

“Lovely cottage in a great New Forest location”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2016

We stayed at Amble Back for 3 or 4 days between Christmas and New Year 2015. We originally requested availability for a different cottage that Sue and Simon own in Downton but as it was not available Sue offered Amble Back as an alternative. Sue was there to meet us on day 1 and showed us around, also explaining we were the first guests to stay there. She also left out some mince pies and a bottle of fizz - what a lovely touch. The interior is exceptionally well presented and with everything you could want or need for a short or extended stay and was in line with the photos that I'd seen. The kitchen is very well equipped if you fancy preparing food and eating in (we didn't, except for an Indian takeaway), I especially liked the store cupboard, meaning we could have a cup of tea upon arrival without having to hunt out the local supermarket. The rest of the property was as expected - lovely decor and comfortable. It's a great location, though it is on a road (not main) and it meant that our dog was disturbed by people passing by the front door, which in turn disturbed us, but other than that we didn't really notice. The cottage is centrally located to Fordingbridge with easy access to numerous pubs, cafe's and shops. The New Forest official border is very close but there are also plenty of great walks from Fordingbridge. All in all this is a fantastic holiday cottage and if we were going back to the New Forest we would definitely want to stay here again.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to post this review. We were delighted to welcome you over the Christmas holiday as our first guests and are so pleased that you found Amble back such a home from home in a great location. We hope to see you again soon. Sue
