The Valencian Country region

The Valencia region is famous for its orange groves, its almond blossoms and is the birth place of the paella. It is a land of great beauty with a hinterland of majestic mountains and valleys that sweep down to the beautiful beaches of the coast. The region has a rich cultural tapestry and a proud historical legacy. The moors were finally expelled from Valencia in the 12th century but they have left their mark on the regions architecture and culture. Many of the place names and traditions have their origins in Moorish culture.

The mountainous hinterland is ideal for those who enjoy walking or cycling. There are valleys and numerous villages and towns in the traditional Spanish style to explore and they especially beautiful in the Spring when the land is awash with almond and orange blossom.

The coast offers and altogether different aspect of the region. Resorts like Benidorm offer fun, Sangria and sun beside swimming pools and long sandy beaches. This is a family friendly holiday destination enjoyed by different nationalities.

This is the home of the paella traditionally cooked with meat but more often served with shellfish caught locally in the sea just off the coast. Spain is fiesta and during the summer there are countless festivals held throughout the region. The biggest of these are Las Fallas which is held in March and 'Los Moros y Cristianos' a local festival held in various towns throughout the year celebrating the Christian re-conquest of Spain the most famous of which is the festival held in Alcoy in March.

Valencia City is a modern and vibrant city which still retains a quintessential Spanish style. It is well worth a visit to see the famous architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences', the America's Cup Marina and the fine sandy beaches. It is easy to get to as well by train.

The Valencia region has something for everybody. Its people are open and friendly, the food is traditional and delicious and the weather…. Well that speaks for itself.

Florida , Denia

Denia is one of the most cosmopolitan coastal resorts on the Costa Blanca. Situated equi-distant from Alicante and Valencia it is an ideal base from which to enjoy the coast and the beautiful countryside.

It is a working town and fishing port with the closest ferry route from mainland Spain to the Balearic islands. With its friendly atmosphere, its wide range of cafés, bars and restaurants and its wide, sandy beaches it is perfect for whatever kind of holiday you are looking for. For more details visit the tourist office website.

Denia has more holidays than any other town in Spain and it knows how to enjoy them. Come in early March and enjoy 'Las Fallas' when huge effigies are constructed in the town only to be burnt down on St Joseph's day in a celebration of renewal. In July the main fiesta of the year sees bulls running through the streets. In August the Moors and Christians fight it out in a spectacular pageant celebrating the christian re-conquest of Spain.

Spain is fiesta and Denia is a great place to enjoy it.
