“Beautiful Italian apartment, directly beside the Ponte Vecchio.”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2016

This 3 bedroom apartment is as central as you can get. The Ponte Vecchio is approximately 20 metres from the front door. As you are on the sixth floor, you do not get as much road noise as you would think, so a lazy day in the flat is as pleasurable as tramping the streets and soaking up the culture. The flat is comfortably furnished. Some period features make this seem like a truly Italian experience. The sofa has seen better days but this is a small criticism. You will probably not spend much time on it anyway, at least during the days. There is an excellent supermarket immediately at your front door. Superbly stocked with all the Italian foods and wines you could want. If you are ever confused as to which door is yours, it the one beside the window display of Italian wine! There are three patios to enjoy. We found the one which is in front of the living room, accessed from two double glass doors, gets the morning sunshine. The side patio, accessed from two of the bedrooms, gets the afternoon sun, while the rooftop terrace is in the sun all day. This rooftop terrace has unrivalled views of the Duomo, Bobili Gardens and a 360 degree panorama of the city. Just don't move too quickly on the bench up there - you may get a few splinters where you don't want them! The access stairs are fun too - a metal spiral staircase. We really enjoyed our stay here, and the owner was very helpful, both before the holiday in providing helpful information and in repairing the boiler the first day as it was proving to be unreliable. Fixed early the next morning so we could have our showers and was fine thereafter. I have rated the kitchen as average as the cutlery, mugs and plates were a bit of a mish-mash. Not important to us. We regarded this as in keeping with the apartment. The lift from the ground floor only goes to the fifth floor, and the apartment is on the sixth/top floor. So not the best for the elderly. The lift is small and only holds three slim people! Or two with some shopping. But who is in a hurry in Italy? Wait for the next one! If I have a grumble it would be the additional costs that we had to pay. One couldn't complain terribly much on the electricity and gas, which would be minimal in the summer. However the 80 Euro charge for cleaning the apartment we thought was a bit steep. It is not optional. Notwithstanding the 2.50 Euro local tax for each person each night, be prepared then to pay somewhere over 100 Euros onto your initial payment. This is not modern, but we thought all the better for the Italian feel that the apartment had. You will be hard pressed to find a better apartment in a better location in Florence.
