Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Achneim house is located in Scottish Highlands just outside of Inverness. Our luxury accommodation offers an authentic way to experience Scotland. Achneim House was built in 1850’s as two cottages. An extensive renovation, completed in 2010 means Achneim House offers stylish, elegant accommodation whilst still retaining the charm and characteristics of the beautifully converted cottages. From exceedingly active to serene retreat, you will be able to experience a wide range of activities and experiences depending on your disposition.

Flichity

Loch Ness Monster

Loch Ness is the largest body of fresh water in Britain and certainly worth a trip. With many cruises available up & down Loch Ness, Nessie spotting couldn’t be a more enjoyable day out. A particularly picturesque stop on the canal is Fort Augustus (23 miles from Achneim House). With a flight of 5 locks and historic Benedictine Abbey, there is plenty to see and do.

Culloden Battlefield

Scene of the most infamous battle of Scottish history, and burial place of the clans who fell in the battle, Culloden visitor centre offers tours and re-enactments on a regular basis.

Castles & Historic Buildings

With so many Castles, significant historic Buildings and Churches nearby, you will not be short on places of historic interest to visit. The city of Inverness boasts 9 churches on the banks of the River Ness alone with Inverness Castle, built 1863, sitting observing them all.

Outdoor Activities

Cycling has never been more enjoyable. Achneim house has a great base to explore Highlands on your bike. There are numerous routes from an easy pedal to difficult Black runs.

For Golf enthusiast there is Castle Stuart Golf Course just 17 miles from Achneim House. It is situated between Inverness & Nairn on the Moray Coast.

Walking, Hiking and Running must be experienced from Great Glen. The Great Glen way stretches 79 miles/127km between Fort William and Inverness. There are some challenging sections, and the more experienced may wish to tackle a few Munros or Corbetts within reach from the route. For those less inclined, there are many shorter, scenic routes at hand. The Loch Ness Marathon is an annual event which is renowned for its warm Highland welcome, first class organisation and scenic beauty as well as Nessie spotting.

Water sports including canoeing and windsurfing are available at Kincraig, located at the foot of Cairngorm National Park.

Cairngorm National Park

The National Park covers 3800 sq km and is the largest in Britain. Skiing, snowboarding and sledging are all available with over 30 km of ski runs and a fully maintained snow board fun park.

At a lower level, the area is shrouded with ancient Caledonian pinewoods – the descendants of the natural forests of old. As well as High Mountain tundra and rocky passes, moorlands and forest, there are also extensive marshlands and lochs, whose best-known visitor in summer is the osprey.
