Description

Enjoy a prestigious lake view location in a very luxurious apartment (ID 134) which is situated in the grounds of the historical Villa Capoana. The villa built in the year 1605 for the Duke of Mount Marciano in Fiumelatte was home to noble families for many generations until just recently, a part of it was reconstructed. In renovating, the construction company has ensured the preservation of the monumental fountain and garden area, which was a highlight of the historic villa and is now a beautiful showpiece of the exclusive residence.

This new contemporary apartment is just 15m from the water's edge and offers luxurious fixtures and fittings throughout. The modern features are 'state of the art' from the elegant floor tiles combined with under floor heating, independently controlled air-conditioned rooms throughout, the whirlpool bath to the bedroom and the Swiss train station clock weighing scales and 'alligator' paint effect walls in the bathrooms!

This is just an amazing apartment! So elegantly decorated and beautifully situated on Lake Como at Varenna! We traveled with another couple and had plenty of space and privacy with two bedrooms and two baths. The modern features add to the elegance and the air conditioning was a rare treat for the area. Finally, the balcony is so large with relaxing chairs and a table at which we ate many nights! The view is beyond beautiful. The access to the ferry and the town of Varenna is perfect as well. Overall this is an incredible place!

We're happy to give some feedback on our holiday at the Della Fontana Penthouse.Firstly, your staffs help, particularly Viviana, in assisting us with answering many questions was particularly useful and much appreciated. Unfortunately, our seaplane ride was cancelled due to the weather (not the fault of yourselves).Secondly, our apartment was very nice with spectacular views. The only problem we had was understanding how things worked, particularly the central heating, even though there were instructions within the property. It was a good thing that Brad was on hand to assist us.Thirdly, the area was beautiful and something anyone would dream of experiencing. Unfortunately, we found many shops, cafes and restaurants closed at this time of year. You really need to go from Easter onwards to ensure everything was open. We were disappointed that shops had very strange opening times so we couldn't 'stock' up with food and drink. We had read that the Cafe Varenna was excellent, but it was only open twice during the time we were there. However, the Hoseteria del Plantano in Fuimelatte was excellent for food and Norma was extremely helpful. Varenna was much too quiet at this time of year.

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday! The penthouse was a fantastic "home base" for our stay. After a day of skiing in Bobbio, the jacuzzi came in handy for our sore muscles!! It was picturesque to sit in jacuzzi at night looking at the snow capped mountains while drinking some wonderful wines. We can't thank you enough for all of your hospitality and attention during our stay. We will definitely be calling you first for our next holiday on Lake Como! The above review submitted by Danelle - USA, who stayed at Della Fontana Penthouse on 29th December 2013.

September 2015

We loved the property. It has a beautiful view and a great location. Your directions and photos were very good and made it really easy to find. The staff was very helpful. I mainly corresponded by email and always got a reply within a very short period of time.

Your service was very good, no need for improvement. When we could not turn on the kitchen light (never thought of having to use a remote for that) I called the owner and had a quick reply and help.

Location description from manager

The Lake Como region

The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.

Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.

It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.

All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquillity and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.

Warming, in spriing and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.

The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandra).

Fiumelatte

The apartment is located in the town of Fiumelatte, just 1km from the beautiful town of Varenna on the Eastern shore of Lake Como. The property has been designed to take full advantage of the lakes premier view of the 'Golden Triangle' - Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna.

Fiumelatte is famous for having the shortest river in Europe, the 'Fiumelatte'. Only 250m long, it rushes, frothy and milky-white (hence the name) down the rockface and crashes into the lake. From the end of March to the end of October.

Varenna is the place to get away from it all, but also be in touch with the rest of the Lake. For the romantics, the historians or for those who love peace, tranquility and a history that goes back thousands of years this is the place.Varenna is an ancient fishing village with close to 1000 residents spread along a steep hillside overlooking Lake Como.

The reds, terracottas and yellows of its houses, its mild climate and the olive and cypress trees make you wonder whether you aren’t 200km further south. After the nearby island of Comancina was destroyed the population increased and flourished. The warring factions, as with much of Lombardy saw Varenna at odds with Como on many occasions and the rule of Varenna pass in typical Italian family tradition from the Visconti family to the Sfondrati's. Today Varenna is a lovely spot to chill out, although be aware that shops and even restaurants have been known to shut for lunch, so expect the better things in life to take longer.

Varenna is one of the most beautiful towns on the lake, its steep winding alleys lined with charming homes, flowering balconies and lace-curtained windows. In the evenings, the village is serene and picturesque. Truly a perfect place for relaxing. This is an understatement! The warmth of the locals combined with the perfect setting of the place, would melt the coldest hearts of the most demanding travellers.

Looking down on Varenna is the ancient Castle of Vezio; where Theodolinda, Queen of the Lombards, is said to have died in the 7th century. Today, you can enjoy Falconry displays, the tower which is accessible, thanks to a drawbridge and the underground passages dating back to the First World War. The panoramic views are fabulous from the castle & there is also a restaurant where you can enjoy local cuisine. There are also numerous well marked hiking paths around Castello Vezio.

This old fishing village has several very interesting shops; from local butchers to craft shops and bars, as well as many restaurants ranging from simple but fabulous pizzerias and trattorias, to elegant dining experiences with lake views. Varenna offers excellent rail links to Milan & Venice! Plus there are ferry links to all the gorgeous villages & towns along Lake Como's shores; it makes a great base for exploring the area.
