We stayed about two weeks in Humminbird 6. Luckily we had rented a car for whole period, it made things much easier. There is quite good public transportation and bus stop just about 100 meters from the house but still I recommend own car. Nearest supermarket Jordans is about over 1km from the house. Few restaurants in walking distance (very local Wendy's), nice but reasonable priced fine dining place Karib, italian El Tempio (near by Jordans supermarket. We got here two times: first and last). There is really no walk paths in Barbados so walking in the evening by the road is something you should consider carefully without doing. Note that Jordans is not open on Sundays, nearest supermarket open on Sundays is in Holetown (15mins drive to north). Beach is in walking distance but downside of that beach is that there is no bar or any kind of service point at that beach. Thats because all inclusive hotels seems to be not allowed to sell drinks. However, you may rent fishing boat, snorkeling and other activities from at the beach but definately best place is to ask thos for Malcom, who is living next door. He can fix pretty much everything you want, just a great fellow. In west coast there are plenty of nice beaches but again, you need a car to explore all of them. Paynes bay and Sandy lane are nice ones and not too far. Humminbird 6 is equipped with all the necessary gears; full kitchen, washing machines, beach towels etc so 10 points for that. Fof some reason the satellite tv didn't work during our stay and despite promises, there was no wifi. You had to go to the pool to get the connection which was extremely low speed. Hummingbird is actually about 10 apartments build very close together sharing two small pools. So there was no "own" pool eventhought the pictures from the place gave such a feeling. Summary: - nice place, big enough even with few teenagers. - you definately need a car to explore the island and manage daily supermarket shoppings - our house keepers Malcom and Sanda, who lived in neighbor are just great. 11 points for them. - dining is extremely expensive, compared to any European cities. So be prepared either pay or make you own food like at home ;-)
