- Very Good
“Edd Tide - heaven on earth!”
When I come across an emphatic holiday review on a web site I used to think to myself “come on – it can’t be THAT good…there must have been something that wasn’t quite as perfect as you’re making out?!”. But, now I’ve stayed at Ebb Tide I know that perfect reviews can be exactly as they describe!! From the moment we first contacted Neil we were put at ease – what a nice genuine guy and nothing was too much trouble (no matter how many questions we fired at him initially! ). Everything Neil assured us about Ebb Tide was spot on! Pulling up in the taxi to be greeted by the Andrew the house manager along with Merlissa the chef and Jackie the maid (both looking very smart in their white uniforms) and presented with a (potent!) rum cocktail, fruit juices for the kids and platters of freshly cooked nibbles had us all feeling relaxed within minutes! Walking through the house into the garden to look at out at the endless view of the Caribbean ocean was amazing and we knew that our stay at Ebb Tide was going to be a special one. The house is lovely and boasts an enviable position on the beach – one of the most prestigious looking beach fronted properties that we saw. The facilities in the house are perfect (we were two families; four adults and four kids) – from the large fridge, freezer and separate wine/beer fridge (essential!) right through to the beautifully appointed bathrooms. The living room is very spacious with a large screen TV and satellite channels (not that we watched any TV with so much ‘view’ to look at from the garden! The garden is very well set up for entertaining and outdoor living – a large table right on the beach edge (where Merlissa and Jackie delivered stunning meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner), a beautiful pergola where you can seek shade and plenty of sun beds and cushions/mattresses. The plunge pool, whilst small, was perfect for the kids to have a play in (on the odd chance they got bored of the amazing sea) and at night the garden is beautifully lit up with fairy lights and mood lighting. Merlissa will help you choose menus and is a very talented chef – our kids got addicted to her homemade breakfast pancakes and her salads are stunning! Jackie ensured that the house was kept immaculate and having her around was a blessing – not coming home with a suitcase full of dirty washing was a real treat! Henry, the night watchman came to the house about 6:30 pm and stayed until morning, just to ensure that everything was ok (but in all honesty we never felt threatened in any way at anytime – it just seems that many of the larger house have this night time security). Don’t be put off by the guys who appear on the beach asking if you want to hire jet skis, speedboats etc – they are not overly pushy and if you do fancy such a thing you can negotiate a good price – if not just give them a friendly “no thanks” and they will leave you in peace. And you’re nowhere near inundated by these guys – we probably got asked 2 or 3 times a day and after a while this went down when they realised we where there to chill out!! (Although we did end up hiring a couple of jet skis on the last day and gave the kids a couple of rides on the giant inflatable sofa towed behind a speed boat – GREAT fun!!). Nothing can prepare you for stepping off the patio on the lovely soft sand and wading into the warm sea where straight away you can see all sorts of marine wildlife – and yes, we saw PLENTY of turtles, some of them coming right into the shallows and would happily stay calm while we all bobbed about around them with our snorkels on. And on that topic, you HAVE to make sure you do go snorkelling while you’re there – it’s amazing and right on your own door step….no need to buy a ‘snorkel with the turtles’ tour and sit on a crowded boat….run your own exclusive tour from your own garden! There are plenty of nice places to eat and drink nearby (Andrew, Merlissa and Jackie all made good recommendations. For an informal relaxing beer or cocktail in the afternoon, turn left on the beach and stroll for 3 minutes to Il Tempo. Another great beach front bar for sundowners is Daphnie’s or Drift and if you want a simply stunning meal then you have to book yourself into Tides or Loan Star….NOT to be missed and all a short trip away!! And if you fancy it – get yourself onto a game fishing charter – fun for all the family and we caught a fish big enough to provide lunch for a week!! As for getting about, we preferred to get out on the “reggae reggae buses” which is an experience you have to get in while you’re there! These crazy and fun buses run up and down the west coast (bright yellow, you can’t miss them!) and you just hop on/off for $2 each – for as far as you want to go. Be prepared – they love to play reggae music REALLY loud and they pack you in at nights but the conductors are always really friendly and will give you a shout when your stop is coming up and they will always make room for the kids. Don’t be put off – they are really safe and fun and great way to sample a bit of local culture!!! I could go on about all the amazing places to go and see but the magic of Barbados is best discovered for yourself and the guys at Ebb Tide will happily recommend things in line what you fancy! What I will say is make sure that by about 5:30pm your laying on one of the loungers, cold drink in hand, some music playing in the background and watch the most amazing sunsets – all from the comfort of your own beach front garden. This became a daily ‘thing’ for our holiday – us adults would take a moment to be lazy, enjoy the slightly cooler temperature, have a drink and chat and bask in the sunset – while the kids carried on playing about in the sea having the time of their lives!! The only downside we found about staying at Ebb Tide was that two weeks was simply not long enough. I would return in a heartbeat…this was our seventh holiday as the two family group and we’ve been all over together but we all agreed that this was the best yet and the challenge now is that our next holiday will have to live up to Ebb Tide – the bench has been set very high!! Of course, we could always just go back to Ebb Tide!! ;)
Owner's reply: Paul.Thank you so much for this fantastic revue. In future I want have to tell the guests anything .Thanks again and I do hope you will be back with us very soon. Neil & Wendy.
“we went with our 6 children and everyone rated it the best holiday they have ever had”
wonderfull villa in the best location the staff in particular the chef are amazing. I even sacrificed one of my great pleasures of lying in a bath to stay in Ebb Tide. Will I go again? ABSOLUTELY !!!
Owner's reply: Hi John .Look forward to having you back next year. Neil & Wendy.
“Everything and more!”
We stayed at Ebb Tide for a special celebration..... The house was everything and more that you could have asked for.... The location, luxury, staff and setting were amazing. You couldn't ask for more than what this house gives you! Book now and enjoy!
Owner's reply: Thank you Karen. We look forward to your return.
“amazing villa on an amazing island”
We have been going to the island for the last 9 years but have always stayed in hotels, this time we decided to go with friends and family and our young son and decided to stay in a villa. there were 6 adults and one 3 year old, I cant stress how amazing the villa was Merlissa (the chef) Jackie (house keeper) Henry (security) and Andrew (House manager) were all wonderful at looking after us. The location couldn't have been any better 15 steps from the back door to the beach and the best beach on the island at that. The plunge pool was perfect for our son who we now cant keep out of the water, swimming with the turtles which appear about 10 meters out directly infront of the villa was brilliant. I could go on and on but I'll leave it there, last of all the booking of the villa was easy and stress free being kept upto date and the information we were given via email from Neil was perfect. Would definitely return to the villa.
Owner's reply: Hi Mike.Thank you for taking the time to give us your revue. I hope to see you back at Ebb tide soon. Neil & Wendy.
“A week in Paradise”
We walked through the front door and the view through the house to the sea was breathtaking. Every aspect of our week was lovely....from the warm friendly team of people who looked after us and the house, to the accommodations themselves; the food (oh the food was so delicious), and the view....it was all marvelous. We swam with the turtles many times as they would appear along the shoreline catching their dinner. Loved going to the fish market in Bridgetown. The glass bottom boat, tubing, jet skis, and other fun activities that could be enjoyed from our 'back garden' were all great. The only disappointment was the service (and food) at the local italian beach bar. They could have been having a bad day, but for the price.....not worth it. Especially when everything was so wonderful at Ebb Tide. We did go for dinner to the Lone Star (not the american steakhouse) and it was superb...highly recommended.
Owner's reply: Hi Brad. I am happy you enjoyed your stay. I hope the next time you visit you see the turtle nesting on the beach it is a great experience. Neil & Wendy.
“A lovely villa in an excellent location”
Ebbtide is a beautiful house situated right next to the Caribbean Sea in Fitts Village, St James, West Coast of Barbados. The house sleeps 8. The top two bedrooms are stunning and large and have a shared balcony (huge) overlooking the sea. The ground floor double is huge (plenty of room for a cot) and has a large bedroom, but no view. The fourth room on the ground floor is small and contains twin beds and is more suited to children, and has an en-suite. There are no baths in the property, but this was not a problem for us. The website advertises the house as having a small plunge pool. This is accurate, and was adequate for the three small children that we had with us ( a one yr old, a three yr old and a five yr old). In an ideal world, we would have liked a larger pool but owing to the proximity of the sea this was not a huge problem. The house comes with staff, a cook, Merlissa, and a maid, Jackie. The staff work 9-2 and 5-8. If you are early risers and would like an earlier breakfast it is worth discussing this at the time of booking. The quality of the cooking was first rate, and the house was always clean and tidy, and our clothing was laundered and turned around each morning. We had little contact with the house manager, Andrew, but what contact we did have was positive and helpful.
Owner's reply: Hi Leah. Thank you for your constructive comments.Hope to see you back again soon. Neil & Wendy.
This house was everything we had hoped it would be when we booked it. We had seen the pictures on the website, and when we got there it was even better, it was complete and utter paradise and we were treat like royalty for our whole stay. Being so close to the beach meant that we were in the middle of all the water sports, with beach bars and shops in Holetown just a short ride away. Seeing the turtles swimming outside our house every morning was the icing on the cake! We couldn't fault any part of it, the food and service was fantastic. We didn't want to leave and will definitely be going back, it is the perfect location for a holiday home.
Owner's reply: Thank's Abbie. Looking forward to your return, the turtles are still there. Neil & Wendy.
“So close to the beach”
Ebb Tide is one of those rare places where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner seating 15 feet from a turquoise sea. The staff made our stay even more enjoyable. The house is impeccable. Bring your snorkeling gear.
“Beautiful villa in wonderful location.”
We stayed at Ebb Tide for a fortnight, five of us across three generations. The villa suited all of us very well. The accommodation is spacious and very well arranged. The cook and housekeeper looked after us so well. They were flexible and catered for exactly what we asked for. No request was too much. The security was reliable and trustworthy. The location is close to Bridgetown but on a beautiful beach, so provided everything we needed. We saw turtles close to the shore, the snorkelling was amazing and the sea was calm and clear for swimming. A relaxing and totally enjoyable stay.
“The beauty of Ebb Tide matches the beauty of this paradise island”
I loved everything about this villa and it is difficult to put into words just how fabulous it is, but I will try. I stayed there last week with 4 other guests on a Barbados singing holiday run by Mike King and we are all suffering withdrawal symptoms. The listing description sounds wonderful, but when you get there it is so beautiful that it is beyond words. The layout is very spacious and all the bedrooms are individual and separate from each other. I had one of the bedrooms with a seaview and double doors leading out onto the balcony - I felt like a film star. The bed was huge and comfortable and I was lulled to sleep with the sound of the sea. I loved being able to see the sea whilst I was showering through a porthole in the bathroom wall. The lounge and dining area are so spacious that 20 or so guests were very comfortably able to enjoy our concert party on our last night. The villa is run perfectly by Jackie the housekeeper and Merlissa the chef. Jackie keeps it cleaned immaculately and Merlissa cooked fantastic meals, usually 3 a day. They are such fun and always make you feel welcome in the kitchen even when they are busy. I felt so much healthier after a week of Merlissa's cooking. Henry the guard is great and makes you feel very safe. The best bit for me is its position which is so close to the sea you feel drawn just to sit and watch and listen. You can't tear your eyes away from the rising and setting of the sun and moon which are mirrored in the sea and the frogs and crickets provide an evening concerto. I haven't swum for a few years but from the first morning I woke up early and had to go into the sea, and this became a regular start to my day along with a walk along the beach (rehearsing my songs). The sea is gorgeous and warm, with lots of fish and interesting coral to look at. We had breakfast on the terrace and lunch usually in the pagoda - I did feel I was living the dream. The open aspect to the beach is quite different to other villas along that stretch of beach and means you get an uninterrupted view of the sea at all times. I liked the fact that you are in your own world inside the villa and in the back garden and on the beach, but just outside the front is everyday life going on with buses which take you all over the island and a supermarket just up the road. It means you can get around quite independently without having to get taxis all the time. I so appreciated staying in what felt like someone's home, rather than holiday accommodation. The owners have paid so much attention to detail both inside and outside the villa that I am amazed they can bear to let it. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives and fully intend to return on another singing holiday and/or with my family. We went on a catamaran trip with Long Running which was brilliant, swimming with the turtles and seeing a wreck. We did an island tour by taxi, which was a great way to see the island and we all loved Hunte Gardens. We visited a couple of bars at the Gap - Crave Bar and the Jam Bar where we saw some great live music. All in all a fabulous, memorable holiday in paradise.
