The Western Cape region
The Cape Peninsula has a 'Mediterranean' climate and it is warm enough to enjoy the beaches and swimming all the year round. The peninsula offers many beaches on both False Bay and the Atlantic side, some great for surfing and others more tranquil and suitable for young children. There are opportunities for sailing, wind and kite surfing, diving, canoing and sea-kayaking. If you fancy horse riding you can ride along the five kilometre Long Beach or visit wine farms on horseback.
Cape Town is the 'mother city' of South Africa and its most popular tourist venue. One of the world's most beautiful cities it offers sophisticated shopping, night life, restaurants, museums, the arts, culture and sports.
Fish Hoek is within easy reach of Cape Town by car or train ad it has all the ingredients for the perfect beach holiday with a wide choice of shops, restaurants and mountain hiking trails within easy walking distance.
* surfing in False Bay and on the Atlantic beaches
* hiking, swimming, surfing, snorkelling, diving, all nearby
* whale watching (August to December)
* Cape Town and Table Mountain (40 mins)
* Cape Point National Park and Cape of Good Hope (40 mins)
* Games reserves (90 minutes - 2 hours)

Mountains and nature conservation areas stretch 50 kilometres from Table Mountain in the city itself down to Cape Point and there are many hundreds of hiking, walking and climbing routes to suit everyone from families with young children and elderly folk to the most ambitious climbers. Mountain biking is very popular in the area, there are numerous bike trails in the mountains and bikes can be hired quite cheaply.
The nearby wine-routes of Constantia, Stellenbosch and Franchoek offer not only wine-tasting but spectacular scenery and excellent dining.
Within a couple of hours from Fish Hoek there are several game reserves where you can take a safari trip and see the Big Five, and many more animals, in the wild.
The area is a bird-watchers paradise with many coastal and inland lagoons areas noted for the variety of local and migratory species.
Dining out is very inexpensive in comparison to UK, US and European prices and there are very many excellent restaurants and cuisines to choose from.

"Wonderful Hoilday Let"
The flat is vey spacious and light. It's set in lovely landscaped gardens set back from the road. The rooms are all a good size and have a modern feel. The flat security is good, although this means there ae several keys to use. The location of the flat is excellent - a two minute walk to the beach on one side or local shops / cafes on the other. The town of Fishoek is great for families and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. There are lots of local activities and places to visit, but it is also very easy to drive or take the train to visit Cape Town and the tourist sites. This is the second time we have stayed at the flat and would come again if visiting South Africa again.
