Location description from owner

The Salzburg Region

WINTERA traditional, pretty village perfect for families/ friends set amidst magnificent scenery at the foot of the Bischofsmutze mountain and Dachstein glacier, Filzmoos attracts guests who are looking for a typical Austrian village with many facilities close at hand. During the winter Filzmoos becomes a winter wonderland with uncluttered pistes and little or no queuing at the chair lifts – a rare commodity on the slopes these days. There is plenty of space to roam with something to satisfy everyone from beginners to the more challenging run of Papageno, which boasts a six-person gondola giving access to marvellous descents directly down the village. The village is the heart of the community with the nursery slope and the children’s ski school being at the very centre.SUMMERIn summer Filzmoos becomes a paradise for walkers, mountain bikers and anyone who enjoys being in the fresh alpine air. There is a large network of walking trails suitable for all abilities and ages with over 200km of footpaths with classified blue, red and black routes. Mountain bikers looking for a thrill can enjoy hundreds of challenging downhills or families of varying age and abilities can enjoy the easier trails on bike or foot. You can also enjoy mountain biking, climbing, horse riding, visit the championship golf course at Schladming or visit the leisure centre with indoor & outdoor pool, health suite and two bowling lanes situated in the village. A new Thermal Spa in nearby Altenmarkt (15 mins drive) offers a fabulous day out. It has fast slides, a wave pool and indoor/outdoor relaxing areas for the whole family to enjoy. Mom or dad could treat themselves to a mud wrap or one of the many other treatments they have on offer. At nearby Dachstein you might be interested in paragliding and rafting or summer skiing on the glacier. There are also tennis courts and horse riding nearby. There are many local places of interest to visit including the following:-*Worlds largest Ice Caves at Werfen - (25 mins drive)*Hohenwerfen Castle - a Medieval Fortress & falconry centre with daily displays (25 mins drive). Filming was done here for 'Where Eagles Dare'*Eagles Nest ( Hitlers retreat - 45 mins drive)*A daily guided walking programme based on a rolling two week programme is available with local experienced mountain guides, as part of a group or a private guide can be hired to meet your own personal requirements. www.filzmoos-aktiv*The romantic City of Salzburg with many attractions i.e.- Castle, Sound of Music Tour, Museums and many more (50 mins drive).*Championship golf course at Schladming (25 mins drive)

The chalets are situated on a quiet hillside approx 20 min walk from the centre of the village. A shortcut takes 10 mins max but is quite steep. It is opposite a large wooded area with farmland to the rear - perfect for peace, quite and relaxation. A car would be useful but the walk to the village is very pleasant and not difficult and takes in some breath taking views on the way. A ski bus stops 100 meters from the chalets which collects and drops off at various points in the village. The bus runs every hour from 9am – 5pm, every day except Saturday. During summer there is a 'Wanderbus' that collects at the same point and does a route of the surrounding area and allows you to hop on and off at various points depending on your energy levels.Filzmoos is famous for its food and offers fantastic restaurants with prices to suit every budget. There are 2 good pizza restaurants in the village and the Hanneshof do a great spag bol for €8. The 'Hubertus Hotel' has 2 Michelin stars and a very good reputation, but you need to book early. The 'Jagdhof' is situated on the mini island in the middle of the village and is a lovely treat. Happy Filzmoos is great for lunch or dinner and during winter is a hub of activity and the place to go for 'Apres' from 4-6pm and the 'Winepries' offers superb Asian cuisine in a contemporary setting. The Erlbacher Gerhard is famous for miles around for its rack of ribs. For €14.95 you get a rack (and a few more) baked potato/corn on the cob or garlic bread - you wont be disappointed! A fabulous coffee shop run by Gaby is situated by the mini island in the centre of the village and serves fantastic coffee, hot chocolate, apple strudel and much more. You can also buy fresh locally baked bread and croissants daily. The indoor/outdoor pool/sauna centre with 2 bowling lanes is behind 'Happy Filzmoos' and well worth a visit as is the local farm which makes home made ice cream where you can watch the farm cows being milked on a Tuesday afternoon - check all local attractions with the excellent tourist board situated in the centre of the village.Every Friday evening (weather permitting) Filzmoos brass band march proudly up the high street and settle in the beautiful band stand in the village square. Once a month local school children also provide a display of dancing to the brass band in their traditional Austrian costumes - Filzmoos works very hard to provide its guests with a holiday they will never forget! During summer you will see/hear a lovely ritual behind the chalets. Every morning approx 8am the farmer behind our properties leads his 5 cows along a path to a gate, which he lets his cattle through, and they disappear for the day into the woods or wherever their fancy takes them. Last year there was a calf born in the woods but i think the farmer was a little surprised by an early delivery! From 4pm onwards you can hear a cow bell accompanied by mooing as they make their way home after a hard day of chewing the cud. They cross the road and wait outside the gate until the farmer or one of the family come and let them through to go home for their supper and bed!!! During January, Filzmoos hosts the International Ballooning Festival which is an amazing sight - well worth a visit. Please visit the tourist board and speak to Heather (English speaking) and she will give you any information you need and advice on all activities taking place during your stay. There are nursery facilities for children at the Filzmoos Ski School. Please contact Frau Ilona Schörghofer (she speaks good English)

“Great accomodation in a beautiful location.”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2016

The whole booking experience with the owner was very efficient and she couldn't have been more helpful. The location was perfect for us a bit out of town but within walking distance . A little steep on the way back but not a problem if you are relatively fit. It was really peaceful no traffic just lovely. The chalet itself was spotless, comfortable and with everything that we required. We are not all skiers but found plenty of winter walking tracks and only used the car once for a trip out. Filzmoos is a friendly little town and a perfect location for us. Thank you Deborah we hope to return.

“Excellent well equipped chalet”

Excellent refurbished spacious chalet with everything you need to feel at home from the moment you arrive, very good communication from Deborah the owner with all the instructions you will need about finding the chalet, and information on your stay there, and in the town of filzmoos. overall a very easy rental experience.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your positive comments - they are most appreciated!

“Idyllic place to stay, in a magical village!!”

Reviewed 19 Jan 2016

Me and my partner visited in January with my brother and his girlfriend. It is a beautiful welcoming chalet in a lovely Austrian village. It has everything you need and was very clean on arrival. It has been recently refurbished to a high standard. We stayed in for a few nights of our stay, cooked at the chalet and utilised the selection of DVD's and board games. It really felt like a home away from home. The village itself is very beautiful and everyone is really friendly. It's exactly what you would imagine when going skiing in Austria. It's a small place but that's exactly what we wanted, rather than a being too busy and impersonal like a lot of the bigger ski resorts can be. The slopes in Filzmoos are great and Flachau is only 15-20 mins drive away with a larger range of runs. There are buses to the centre of the village and also to Flachau if you don't hire a car. Although the walk into Filzmoos is quite refreshing so that's what we did most of the time.It doesn't take long. The way back up is slightly more tiring but works off all the calories of the wine you've drank throughout the night. Apres ski in the 'Happy' opposite the nursery slope is a must. The food in the restaurant here is also great, try the chateaubriand. We also ate at the Jagdof which was amazing......their poachers pan is a must try. But from our experience there is no bad food in Filzmoos, its all delicious. Finish off the night with a few drinks in Ken-e-dee's bar which is on the walk back to the chalet and always lively. Debbie and Paul, the owners are a diamond couple, such a hoot. They stay in another chalet, but if they are there during your stay they are very helpful and will make you feel very welcome. We will definitely be visiting again. :-)

Thank you Jo - we really appreciate you taking the time to let potential guests know about your stay with us and what an amazing place Filzmoos really is !

“Outstanding Accommodation in Lovely Austrian Village”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2016

This is our second time to Haus Ebner and Filzmoos and again there is nothing to fault about the accommodation or the village itself. Deborah is always extremely helpful ensuring you have everything you need for a great holiday. The accommodation is outstanding, equipped to a very high standard with everything you could possibly want. We are a family of four with two children (8, 5) and we think Filzmoos is the perfect destination for those looking to get their younger children into skiing, you also have Flachau just 20 minutes away if you want a larger ski area. We used Skischule Filzmoos (behind the Happy Filzmoos Hotel) which we would thoroughly recommend, they are very helpful and flexible in looking after the children. In summary, we had another great holiday over the Christmas period and I would highly recommend Haus Ebner.

Thank you for your very positive review - this chalet is newly refurbished and we are delighted with the open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area making it perfect for families and friends who enjoy relaxing after skiing or hiking during the summer. Hopefully see you all again in the future.

“A great all-round place to stay”

A well presented cosy cabin, perfect for two. A short stroll takes you to the village, the up hill return is better fortified by food and beverages! A super Alpine village with everything you need. Stunning views are available from nearby (100m) and the locals are friendly! Enjoy the Friday summer abend, not to be missed if the weather permits it. Communication with the owners is excellent, we'd love to return in the future.

“Wonderful place for winter vacation”

Reviewed 10 Mar 2014

The chalet is perfect and very cozy - it was warm and clean and Deborah is really friendly! Filzmoos is a small and very nice resport and offers perfect opportunities for ski. Within 15-20 min driving you can reach 5-6 other resorts with many slopes. It is worthy staying in Haus Ebner Chalet!

“Happy new year!!”

Reviewed 11 Feb 2013

Not long since back from a brilliant weeks skiing. Enjoyed every second of it. Staying at Haus Ebner Chalet was definatley a very good decision. It is a lovely place warm and welcoming (helped by the under floor heating on entry!). With easy access to the slopes that are suitable for skiers of all levels, and a top quality apres ski you cant help but have a great holiday!

“The most amazing, homely, winter wonderland experience.”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2013

As 6 students from Australia, we spent a long time weighing up our options for an Austrian Alps get away - and it was worth the time! Our picturesque log chalet in the ski town, Filzmoos, couldn't be flawed. We would wake up to uninterrupted views of towering pinnacles and the beautiful snow covered valley. Skiing or snowboarding by day was cheap - made cheaper by our landlords' discount for knowing the right people! - and a lively night scene to cap off each day. This is the place to be. Whether you're looking for two Michelin star cuisine (of which Filzmoos has one of two in all Austria) or a relaxing weekend get away we couldn't give a higher recommendation. To cap this off we had a wonderful host family next door that had no hesitation in helping us orient ourselves in the town and get the best out of our Christmas experience. 5 out of 5 for sure!

“Fantastically well equiped chalet surrounded by breathtaking views”

Reviewed 21 Jun 2012

This is the third time that we have stayed in one of Deborah's immaculately spotless chalets here in Filzmoos, which really says it all..The welcome basket on arrival instantly gives you a warm feel for the place . It's well equipped kitchen (together with all the basics such as tea, coffee etc provided) and lovely decor gives the chalet an instant homely atmosphere. The chalet is located up a hill giving it breathtaking views of the surrounding area, yet not remote as there is a bus stop approximately 50-100 metres away every hour 9.00am-5.00pm into the picturesque town of Filzmoos. The skiing in Filzmoos is excellent for both beginners (such as myself) but also advanced skiers. There is also a bus service to Flachau for the more accomplished skier should they relish the challenge. Yet again we have had a fantastic time and hope to go re-visit soon.

“A Fantastic Holiday.”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2012

We enjoed a wonderful hoilday in a charming villiage. The skiing was excellent and the bars and restaurants on offer were superb. The chalet was lovely it was furnished beautifully and the Christmas decorations had been done with greaty taste making it feel really homely but with a touch of luxury added. On a practical level the Chalet had everything we needed in fact one of the best for equipment we have stayed in,we would definitely go back there again.

Many thanks for your 5 star review. Eating out can be a big part of your Filzmoos experience with excellent cuisine from a pizzeria to a 2 star Michelin restaurant. The huge choice on offer suit's every one's budget from families to a romantic, candlelit dinner for two! We always decorate for Christmas and New Year as when you are in our chalets we expect you to feel at home. Look forward to seeing you in the future.
