Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

North Yorkshire boasts two National Parks, The North York Moors and The Yorkshire Dales. Both areas are stunning and perfect for walkers, cyclists, climbers and for exploring by car or motorbike. The Moors are closer to the cottage but the Yorkshire Dales can be accessed for a day trip. Further South are the Yorkshire Wolds an area brought to life recently by local artist David Hockney with his amazing paintings of the trees and landscapes of this quiet and rolling countryside. The Wolds are less visited than the National Parks and villages in this area are really stunning and worth a look.

Roobarb's Retreat is closest to the Yorkshire Wolds, about ten minutes drive inland. If you drive North past Scarborough then you will arrive at the North York Moors National Park with many, many footpaths and bridleways. Inland, towards Pickering about an hour's drive away you will enter the Yorkshire Dales which are always worth a visit.

Filey

The region's events and attractions are waiting for you to enjoy and there is something for the whole family. The traditional, Victorian resort of Filey is 3 miles away by car (or an enjoyable thirty five minute walk along the beach) with shops restaurants, award winning gardens, museum and superb golf course. The larger vibrant resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington flank The Bay and are both only a 10 minute drive up or down the coast. The Bay gives guests easy access for visiting the countless attractions and is perfect for exploring the breathtaking Yorkshire coastline from Scarborough to Flamborough Head and the countryside of the North York Moors and Dalby Forest (for mountain biking and zip wires through the trees). Further afield is Gothic Whitby which should be experienced at any time but especially during the famous Goth Weeks; you will feel underdressed in amoungst the Goths in their amazing outfits. York is an hour's drive away for a day out and afternoon tea at Betty's Tea Rooms.
