Location description from owner

The England region

Northumberland is England's most northerly county, and is home to many historic homes and castles, beautiful countryside and rolling hills, glorious beaches and picturesque villages and towns.

Northumberland can be explored by car, on foot or bicycle. Each year thousands of people flock to the area for hiking and cycling, as it has many paths and routes to follow.

For those preferring to travel a little by car, there are many ancient market towns in which to shop for local produce, such as Berwick upon Tweed, Alnwick and Morpeth. For beaches Bamburgh is hard to beat and for the local catch, Craster and Seahouses are the perfect places to find fresh local seafood.

Northumberland also has its National Park, Kielder Water and Forest and many other areas of outstanding natural beauty. The county is a haven for wildlife, including red squirrels, otters, badgers, dear, rare wild birds and a magnificent seal colony around the the Farne Islands.

The climate is often bright and warm in the summer months and cool in the winter months.

Fenwick

The village of Fenwick is only a few miles from the coast and the beautiful beach which runs onto the causeway of Holy Island. Holy Island is one of the areas most historic visitor attractions, and is home to both Lindisfarne Castle and Lindisfarne Priory.

The village of Bamburgh is only 9 miles away, with many delightful cafes and restaurants, a beautiful beach and the famous Bamburgh Castle.

“Perfect cottage”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2014

This is a really beautifully furnished, well equipped cottage that had everything we needed. It clean and warm and cosy and had lots of lovely little touches that made it feel very welcoming. We arrived to find eggs, milk, bread and chocolate cake waiting for us. The beds were comfortable and the towels were soft and fluffy and it was really nice to sit in front of the wood burner in the evenings, even though we didn't really need to for warmth. It was ideally situated just off the A1 in a quiet little village and it was really easy to get to everywhere we wanted to go, Berwick, Holy Island, Bamburgh castle and Alnwick. I've been to Northumberland before but my husband had never been, neither had his parents who joined us from Germany so it was a really nice introduction for them all to a lovely part of the country.

Owner's reply: Hi, thank you for your very kind review. We do try to make your stay as comfortable as possible so you can enjoy your break without any worries. We would be delighted to welcome you back to Goldcrest Cottage on your next visit to Northumberland.

“An absolutely beautiful cottage.”

So glad we booked this cottage it was just lovely. The owners were so kind to leave us a welcome package and even prepared the kindling for the wood burning stove. A great location not far from the coast and handy to Berwick Upon Tweed. We would definitely recommend this cottage , beautifully furnished and so comfortable.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Goldcrest Cottage and hope to welcome you back soon.

“If you are going to Northumberland Goldcrest is a must”

From the minute you walk in the door, such a wow factor. Beautiful modern kitchen with everything you need, leading thru to a dining room with a table that seats 6. Very large downstairs bathroom with over bath shower, the lounge, wow wow wow, lovely wood burning stove with a basket of logs supplied. There is a double bedroom downstairs with gorgeous furniture and a sleigh bed, my son said it was the most comfortable bed he had ever slept in. Up stairs there is 2 bedrooms, the master is huge, with velux window and views towards the coast, across the landing there is the prettiest twin bedroom, all in white and pale blue and a WC. The only downside is it hasn't got a village pub in walking distance, however with the lovely stove it was nicer having a glass of wine at the cottage.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely comments, we are delighted you and your family had a wonderful stay. We look forward to welcoming you all back to Goldcrest Cottage again very soon.
