Description from owner

Description

The house is towards the top of the town, just opposite the castle, and is built as a part of the original town wall. It has been carefully restored, and has the true appearance of a Provençal town house. The house can be entered on two different levels. In front of both entrences is a small yard, where you can sit and enjoy your meals. From the Rue du Château you enter on the ground floor, where there is a genuine French country kitchen containing everything a normal family needs, and room to sit down and eat. From the kitchen there is a passage through to a balcony. From the other side of the house, from the Grand Rue du Château, you go in through the cellar with its ancient vaulted roof. The stairs from the cellar lead up to the groundfloor and on up to the first floor, where there is a sitting room with a large open fireplace and the original beams. There is a sofa/double bed in the sitting room. On the top floor there is a large bedroom with one single and one

Location description from owner

The Provence region

PROVENCE
Throughout its history, Provence has attracted visitors. The Romans settled there and called it their province. In the 1300's the Saracens swept through terrifying the locals so thoroughly that the people took refuge in the mountains, settling for protection under the thick walls of the castles. All these visitors left their mark, so there is much to see and experience.

FAYENCE

The old towns, which are strung along the hill-tops like a row of pearls, still look much like they did when the Saracens departed. The old town gateway of Fayence stands open and is the scene lively activity. Close to the church the old market square is ringed with cafés and restaurants. Fayence is the main town in the area and the liveliest. It has many small shops in the old quarter, and numerous restaurants to suit all tastes and all pockets. There are several supermarkets near to the town, as well as a farmers' market, where local producers bring fresh foods daily.

Fayence

Fayence and Seillans are in the heart of Provence. The climate is mild all year round, with around 300 days of sunshine annually and an average temperature from April to September of 26º celsius. The area offers a whole range of activities, such as rafting, mountain walking, riding, cycling, windsurfing, gliding and golf. A beatifull 18 holes golf course, Domaine de Terre Blanche, has opend in the summer 2003, just below Fayence. In 2004 once again another 18 holes golf course opened at the same place. The drive from Fayence to Cannes and St Raphael takes about half an hour, and it is about a quarter of an hours drive to Lac de St Cassien, where there is fishing, swimming and sailing. 45 minutes away there is the Grand Canyon de Verdon, - Europe's biggest canyon. Anyone interested in skiing will find the nearest ski slopes about an hour away. There are plenty of opportunities for wine tasting in the local wineries, and Grasse, the famous centre for perfumes, is only half an hour away.

For those with an appetite for something more cultural, there are the Matisse and Chagall museums in Nice, the Picasso museum in Antibes and a rare collection of Picasso's ceramic works of art in Vallauris
