“Fantastic stay”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2014

Just returned from a lovely week at this fab gite. The owners are so accommodating and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The gite was perfect for us, a family of 5. Had list of space, was very clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The kitchen was so well equipped and the freeview was a bonus for the kids. The children loved the farm animals, the playroom and especially the chickens which made their stay. Ann was so wonderful allowing them to collect the eggs. The area was great, close to beaches and so close to calais. Overall a fantastic break in wonderful surroundings. We will definitely be back

“A lovely break in a great location”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2013

A very comfortable, clean, well equipped house, less than an hour away from Calais. Plenty of space outside for the children to play. They particularly enjoyed the slide, trampoline and the games room. St Omer is 30 mins away and we had a lovely day in the public gardens, followed by lunch in the town. Overall, a lovely short break and we will be back.

“Gorgeous, well-equipped, spotlessly clean cottage in an ideal location.”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2013

We spent a week here in August, this included my husband and I and 7, 10 and14 year old kids. We loved how clean and well equipped the property was. The kids loved the trampoline and pool table on-site. They also loved the chickens!! It was a great base and we visited the beach, la Coupole, Denlys Park, St Omer. The owners were on-site, but didn't intrude and were always available when needed.

“lovely accommodation, car needed”

Reviewed 3 May 2012

The accommodation was fantastic, the best equipped self catering I have ever stayed in, even down to a pizza cutter! the beds were so comfy, it was extremely clean and comfortable, although the sofa's were a little small for us. Onsite table tennis, pool and games room, which were fab for the children + cows to amuse you over the fence! it is in a village in nowhere, and you need to travel 20 mins to Auchan (Amazing supermarket, fresh prawns at £5 for 1/2 kilo, + other wonderful fresh produce that you don't get in England) v2 rocket launch site about 30 mins away. 40 mins to glorious seasides, 90 mins to Ypres Belgium - all worth visiting. wifi available, but did not work that well - stand on one leg upstairs type thing, whilst waving iPad over your head! You need a few euros for road toll to get there 2.80 I think it was. Would Definately stay again.

Owner's reply: We are new owners since this review was made. We have installed a hard wire link from the main router to the gites, so that guests have instant and permanent connection to free broadband at all times.

“Great little gite - comfortable, peaceful, friendly”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2012

We really liked our stay at this gite. Our last-minute booking was easy, quick and reassuringly efficient. The gite was pretty, comfortably equipped, and the owners very welcoming and helpful. Emerald is one of two fairly recentlly built cottages next to each other but the terrace area felt very private. Car access is by a very wide gate and there is plenty of parking right next to the cottage which was good for 'nervous parkers' like us. There are peaceful rural views from the cottage and the sun shined on the terrace most of the day warming it up beautifully after early frosts (our stay was in late March). The bedrooms are spacious with good comfortable beds, cupboard space and chairs. The sitting and dining areas are small, so in bad weather when you can't use the outside the cottage would probaly be best for one or two couples max, or a small family. We had very sunny weather and there were just the two of us, but the sitting area would feel cramped if 6 people were in it all at the same time. We had good internet connection even inside the cottage - it was a bit slow but this is rural France. In fact we were a bit surprised how good the internet connection was given the previous reviewer's comment. One thing we particularly liked is that the owners provided curtains and fabrics in the rooms. So often cottages for rent just have plastic blinds or no window dressing at all. The fabrics gave the cottage a cosy and homely feel. Because the weather was so nice we didn't go out as much as planned, but we did visit the V2 rocket site at Eperlecques, Le Touquet, and had some nice drives on uncrowded roads nearby. The cottage was a welcome place to return to and - unbelievable as it may sound - we used the sun loungers in March!
