Location description from owner

The Algarve region

The Algarve is Portugals holiday playground, blessed with all year around sunshine, unpolluted blue skies and crystal clear seas.

Summers are hot and dry, and the endless beaches with the cool Atlantic are a refuge from the heat of the day. Evenings are refreshingly cooler, and are ideal for dining out, listening too traditional Fado or some serious clubbing or simply good eating in the regions vast choice of affordable and famous for fresh food restaurants.

Spring and autumn are milder and are preferred by many, mostly all blue skies with possibly a stray shower from winter rains restoring the lush green countryside and spectacular spring wild flowers.

Being a winter rainfall zone, Algarve winters are surprisingly mild, with some colder days interspersed with days of warm suntan skies, and cool evenings ideal for a heart-warming log fire.

Unlike central and west Algarves bustling and crowded tourist resorts, our Eastern Algarve, has protected World Heritage wetlands and offshore islands, and fortunately is spared from mega tourist developments. It consequently remains more traditionally Portuguese; the most friendly and polite people you could ever wish to meet. An idyllic easy going lifestyle, with village markets, festivals, uncrowded beaches and all year wall to wall blue skies.

The region offers a wide variety of activities and entertainments, and is well served with shopping malls, regional produce and crafts and for a change from beach life there is dolphin-watching, scuba-diving, surfing or sailing. You can also visit the famous Oceanarium and swim with dolphins, splash away at water worlds or enjoy a luxury boat cruise along the spectacularly beautiful coastline. Also options of riding a bicycle, horse riding or walking in unspoilt countryside. With golf as choice activity there are Europe top courses to hand, and in the Algarve nowhere is too far away to go.

Faro

AZINHEIRO (3Km) Is a small hamlet astride the mountain range. On the crossways to Monte Miguel, Sao Bras, Estoi and Olhao, there is the popular local snack bar O Rissol owned by very friendly Paul and Sandra who speak perfect English.

Onwards towards TAVIRA is SANTA LUZIA, with rows of restaurants along a lovely palm lined waterfront. Nearby is a miniature rail which crosses the marshes to endless beaches of Isla Barril.

OLHAO (9Km) Is a flourishing old fishing town, and has a small harbour and jetty with small ferries and water taxis that shuttle across to the nearby island beaches such as These Armona, Culatra and the distant light house island of Farol. On the waterfront is a famous undercover fresh fish and vegetable market, inside two huge Moorish style halls. A bustling daily market is a must see for an insight into day-to-day Algarve life. An endless choice of restaurants makes this town a seafood paradise.

SAO BRAS (9Km) Is a bustling inland town nestling against the lovely outback cork hills. It has all the convenient shopping amenities and very affordable restaurants, along with the ever popular Chicken and Chips phenomena Luis dos Frangos restaurant and many more.

FARO (20km) Is the capital town and has lovely old cobbled shopping walkways and the nearby fortressed old town is well worth a meander. The ancient cathedral bell tower provides a splendid view over the city, wetlands lagoons and inland hills. From the small marina in the town centre boats offer group tours of the Ria Formosa Wetland Reserve with its famous birdlife, and also visit pristine Isla Deserta for idyllic beachcombing amid a myriad seashell. The very modern Algarve Forum shopping mall on the outskirts of town offers good retail therapy with specialist chain stores, cinemas, and restaurants.

“Relaxing retreat.”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2012

Spent a fantastic week at Ninho do Amor, which was made even more special by the owners Karl & Daphne, who go out of their way to make you feel welcome, we now have 2 good friends, and i would recommend this, and any of their other properties to anyone. Ninho do Amor is nestled on a hillside, in a quite rural part of Eastern Algarve, but there are several restaurants, shops and attractions very close by, all a short trip by car. Faro, and it's airport are 20 minutes away, and the beaches of the Algarve about the same. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday, but with all the amenities you'll need, then this is for you, Karl & Daphne will take care of you for sure, and we're already looking forward to our return visit.

“A Small Piece Of Heaven”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2012

The minute you arrive at Ninho do Amor, expertly owned and managed by Karl and Daph, you feel at home and as part of their family. This was our third visit and yet again it did not disappoint: the peace and quiet, the relaxed atmosphere and the unbelieveable sweeping views from the garden and pool area out over the Algarve coastline. Due to location, you do need a car but everwhere is accesible in a very short space of time. This trip saw my wife and I take the opportunity to visit the Alentajo and Douro Valley but there was nothing like 'coming home to The Nest'. Ninho do Amor has everytrhing and more for the holidaymaker who likes the independance of self catering but with the facilities of a very high standard hotel to match. But you know what makes this place so special? ...... the kindness and friendleness of two special people, the owners Karl and Daph. Will we be back? - you bet!

“An absolute gem”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2012

From the minute we found this property online, we had a good feeling about it. When we got in touch with the owners, Karl and Daph, the feeling grew stronger. They shared a lot of useful information with us in advance, including advice on car rental and excellent directions. We were thrilled when we arrived at Ninho do Amor and found it was even more impressive than the pictures we'd seen - the cottage itself, the pool and the colourful garden with elevated sea views, the boule court, the gazebo, and the peace and quiet. We were equally impressed by the owners. They got the balance just right in terms of making us feel welcome and being constantly on call to look after our every need, without intruding in any way. They are genuine, sociable, and very much young at heart. They are interested in visitors and making their trip as enjoyable as possible. From recommendations on where to eat and things to do (for example, walk up to the hill to Maria's taverna, visit the palace in nearby Estoi, or take a ferry to one of the many islands to relax on a sunny beach), they've got it covered. We hope to go back to Ninho do Amor some day and would highly recommend it.

“"It just doesn't get better than this."”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2012

We all try to take the risk out of making that first time visit to a holiday destination by doing research on the area and looking at lots of photos, but it's still a worry when you arriv,e that it all might be a huge mistake. Well, do yourself a favour and book yourself a little piece of paradise at "Ninho do Amor". The beauty of the views and the tranquility are enchanting and will remain with you when you regretfully leave. Not sure what to do each day? Karl & Daph are always on hand to advice you where the best restaurants are and how to get to the best beach/beauty spot. They're very friendly and will go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your holiday. Alternatively, relax by the pool, and treat yourself to a BBQ, everything you need is available to make your stay a delight. Would we recommend it? Would we return? 100% YES.
