Very Good

“Wish I owned this house!”

Reviewed 10 Nov 2016

Absolutely delightful. An historic 17thC house, yet with all modern amenities, in a very quaint village. The place had been sympathetically restored and decorated and was clean and bright. A few yards from Falkland Palace and just across the road was the birthplace of Richard Cameron the famous Covenanter martyr.

“The Perfect February Break”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2015

Fountain House, Falkland, was the perfect location for our short break. Although we only stay across the Forth, we felt like we were away from it all in this beautiful setting. Fountain House was an excellent base for our stay. We imagined, from the photos, that it was going to be very nice, however, the house was absolutely stunning to say the least. We could not fault it in any way. Beautifully decorated and furnished. As for Falkland, we ate in the Stag Inn and the Lomond Tavern and had lovely meals in both. The Lomond Tavern is a bit more basic, but great value for money. We walked in Falkland Estate and also did West Lomond Hill, the scenery and views were amazing. Thanks to Elizabeth who made us feel most welcome. The coffees she makes in her 'Fayre Earth' gift shop are to die for. Communication with Natasha, the owner of Fountain House, on booking and following our trip was speedy and informative. We loved our stay at your House, thanks again.

“Exceeding expectation”

The photos don't do the house justice. It is a mix of modern convenience and traditional charm in a fantastic setting away from the hustle and bustle on the city.

“Excellent Location and Comfortable”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2013

Excellent Location Comfortable beds Good size kitchen with dishwasher! Open plan living room and dining-great for entertaining. Half bath downstairs was excellent for guests Coffee shop 7 steps from front door Several pubs within a 1-2 minute walk Looks like a new heating system that works well! We love Falkland!

“Perfect Location”

The village of Falkland was wonderful. It is very quaint with a few pubs/restaurants/shops and beautiful walking trails. There are also three different parks which my young children loved. The house had everything we needed! The kitchen was fully-equpped and even had sharp knives for chopping. I would definitely go back.

“Fabulous Fountain House in Falkland!”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2012

What a find! I stayed here for the weekend with my family (ranging in age from 5 - 91) and we all had a wonderful time. The Fountain House is the perfect mix of a traditional old house, with some lovely period furniture as well as modern day convenience (wood burning stove, modern shower room, lovely bed linens etc). Falkland is a hidden gem and there was plenty to keep everyone amused. Dinner at the Stag Inn, delicious cakes from the Palace Pantry, swings and walks in the park as well as some serious browsing and purchasing in the Cottage Craft Centre. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to return.

“Characterful cottage with modern conveniences at heart of historic village.”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2012

Fountain House provides an insight into the lives of our ancestors with its thick stone walls, small paned windows and large fireplaces but renting this beautifully renovated property also provides modern day comfort in large doses thanks to large comfortable beds, quality linen, kitchen with all mod cons and big squashy leather sofas. A particularly nice touch is the wood-burner which provides a lovely focal point in the lounge. Some holiday homes I have used before have been rather bland and formulaic but Fountain House is anything but as the owners have brought real warmth and interest to the property using both what appear to be artefacts from foreign travel as well as examples of local craft work . Two of us stayed for three nights and felt really at home in the property which lies at the very heart of the historic village of Falkland. Falkland Palace is two minutes walk away and we enjoyed a lovely morning touring the gardens and the palace imagining the lives of the Scottish Royals who walked and lived there centuries before. A visit to St Andrews, a short drive away, was another lovely outing. Falkland itself is well served with coffee and craft shops as well as decent pubs and restaurants. Falkland also has much to recommend itself as a holiday base as it is centrally located for Perth, Dundee and Edinburgh as well as the beautiful small villages on the East Coast.
