.
In 2011 Exmoor National Park was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first place in Europe to achieve this prestigious award and only the second in the world.

The area is ideal for all types of activity holidays-walking, cycling and mountain biking, fishing, horseriding, and at Wimbleball Lake there is a whole range of watersports on offer. For children there is a Zoo , Dinosaur Park, the Exmoor Pony Centre and traditional seaside resorts to name but a few of the many attractions. There really is something for everyone in Exmoor.

Exford

Exford is a village famous for hunting, shooting, fishing and riding. The Devon & Somerset Staghounds have had their kennels in Exford since 1875. Every August the village holds an annual Horse Fair.

Exford is a walkers paradise with miles of waymarked paths. From the cottage you can walk down the valley following the river Exe, or up over the moors to Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor with stunning views across the sea to Wales.

There is a local bus service from the village and during the summer months a lovely 1950's open top bus visits the village on it's circular tour from Minehead. The Moor Rover Bus Service also operates in Exmoor. Booked 24 hours in advance the Moor Rover will collect you and take you to any destination of your choice in Exmoor.

There are so many places to visit in the area, but our favourites include the coastal resorts of Lynmouth and Porlock Weir, the stately home of Arlington Court and the medieval village of Dunster with it's magnificent castle.

Exmoor is host to numerous events and festivals throughout the year. Highlights include the Walking Festivals in Spring and Autumn, the Dulverton Folk Festival in May, the UK Ironman Triathlon in June, the Exmoor Explorer mountain bike marathon in August and the Porlock Arts Festival in September.

“Excellent”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2016

Lovely quirky little cottage, really clean and everything provided that you could possibly need. Welcome pack of Bread, jam, coffee hot chocolate and milk waiting on arrival, which was a really nice touch and very much appreciated after a long drive. The village of Exford has two hotels, both proving meals, and they were both excellent. Local village store across the road has all essentials and lovely friendly staff. The location is ideal for a lot of Exmoors local attractions, Dunster Castle well worth a visit as are the towns of Lynmouth and Lynton, and Exmoor Zoo. The owner, Phil is a pleasure to deal with, responds quickly to emails and nothing is too much trouble. Would definately recommend and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We spent a week at this fantastic, homely cottage. It is equipped with everything you need, is immaculately clean and very quaint. We will schedule another stay in the future! Paul

“Cute, cosy cottage in perfect location”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2013

A very comfortable and clean cottage with everything you need to feel at home straight away. The window seats offer lovely views of the village green and passing horses! Great location for exploring exmoor and easily accessible to coast. Walks from front door and nice pubs and tea room in village. The cottage is compact as to be expected from a character cottage but perfect for a family holiday and the garden is a real bonus.

“Relaxing and well appointed”

Reviewed 4 May 2013

The cottage is compact but well equipped and has a great location in the centre of the village. I was taking my Aunt and mother for a quiet Spring break and it was an ideal place. There are good facilities in the village and the villagers are very welcoming. It was easy to get to the coast, to some lovely villages and market towns. The West Somerset Railway trip was popular. I would certainly recommend this cottage to others and comments in the visitors book show that there are plenty of loyal customers who return repeatedly.

“Cosy cottage in a wonderful spot”

Really nice short break. Cottage in superb condition. Well equipped and tidy. Lovely wood burner and very comfy beds. Cracking location in the heart of the national park with 2 pubs close by.

“Lovely cosy cottage in beautiful area”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2012

We enjoyed a week's stay in the cottage. Excellent communication with the owner who provided clear details about the cottage and answered questions. Appreciated the welcome tray and the wood burner fire ready to light. Village is a great place to get away from it all and enjoy the walking and horse riding on the moors and through the woods. Plenty of interesting places to visit. I read Lorna Doone while I was there and visited the Doone Valley and Oare church, it really brought the novel to life. Would like to return, perhaps in the Spring.

Very nice cosy cottage with quality fittings. Bang in the middle of Exmoor and consequently ideal for all the walking we did during our stay. Food pubs within walking distance. All in all excellent and we hope to stay again sometime.

“Beautiful Exmoor Cottage”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2012

This lovely, well appointed, comfortable cottage is ideally located in the Exmoor village of Exford. Being pretty central be it the beach or the rolling hills you wish to see everything is within easy reach. You will not be disappointed with this cottage and the Exmoor National Park, both are outstanding .

“Great cottage and location”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2012

Stayed there with some friends for the Jubilee weekend. The cottage was really comfortable with a small garden in the back for when the sun is out. The location is great, it's in the centre of Exford which has two decent pubs and a good village shop. It's also easy to get to Exmoor and the coast for most activities.

“Quaint and cosy cottage”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2011

Lovely cottage to escape from busy life. A real home from home with comfy beds and nicely furnished, including a great shower room. The village has 2 good shops, a tea room, hotel and pub so you could stay put or go exploring, as we did. Very central for sightseeing. Would happily visit again.
