Location description from owner
The Madeira Islands region
As you approach Madeira by air or sea, you may look at the mountainous terrain and conclude that walking the island is perhaps only for the fit, young and adventurous. We tell you that this is not so! You really have not seen Madeira if you haven't experienced the wondrous and thrilling landscapes of the island. And they are all so accessible, so easy to find and often effortless to walk.A mild climate all year round, water temperatures of 18 to 23°C, depending on the season, crystal clear waters and the likelihood of viewing species like barracudas, monkfish, dolphins, rays and even mantas are the main reasons why lovers of scuba diving consider the island of Madeira more and more for their diving holidays.
Estreito da Calheta
One of the pleasures of an island holiday is that the ocean is never too far away! Spend your days exploring the coastline of majestic cliffs, pebbled beaches and natural rock pools that attest to the island’s volcanic origins, or take a ferry or flight to Porto Santo and enjoy miles of golden beaches. Blessed with an almost perfect climate, visitors will soon realise that one trip to Madeira is simply not enough!Calheta is a lovely area by the sea with a nice man-made beach with golden sand, bars, toilets and changing rooms, first-aid facilities and a big marina. This beach offers a wide variety of nautical activities (canoeing, windsurf boards and catamaran rental services) and crystal clear waters. The yellow sand was brought mainly from Morocco, but also from Figueira da Foz (mainland Portugal).

“Perfect Hosts and Lovely Views”
We have just returned from our second three week visit to this idyillic cottage with its kind, thoughtful and attentive owners ready at hand with helpful advice. The new addition of a glazed patio extension (on both properties) enabled us to maximise the Spring sunshine and the all round superb coastal views. The property gives easy access to delightful locations such as Jardim do Mar and Rabacal but equally is a good base in a quiet area giving ready access to all areas of the island. We have already booked again for a third visit to enjoy the varied island scenery and walks.
