If you desire an idyllic holiday in the sun, Madeira, with its beautiful landscape and friendly people, is for you. 38D 'Banana Grove', a south facing semi-detached house, is in a peaceful, romantic setting, in the village of Estreito da Calheta. This is on the west coast of Madeira and is favoured for its beautiful weather and fantastic sunsets. It is only 150m above sea level and has spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and mountains,
The house sleeps 6/7 having 3 bedrooms. 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom (with en-suite) - upstairs and 1 double bedroom (with shower en-suite) downstairs. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge. The lounge is comfortable and the kitchen is modern and fully equipped. There is a private garden and patio area, with garden furniture and a small BBQ. There is also ample parking, with remote controlled gates and a security phone system. All the bathrooms and shower rooms have underfloor heating, should it be required.

My English speaking representative who also looks after the property for me, will arrange to meet you on your arrival, answer any questions and give you the keys. She will also provide a small 'welcome pack'. A 'Secuity Deposit' cheque/cash of 200 euros, will be taken on your arrival to cover against damages but this is refunded before your departure, after the property is inspected.

The 2 single beds are in one twin-bedded room upstairs and have an en-suite, which includes a bath and the double bedroom upstairs, is situated next to the shower room. The downstairs double bedroom has a shower en-suite.. A further guest WC is located downstairs. All the bathrooms/shower rooms have under-floor heating. A child's cot and high chair are available on request. Clean linen and towels are provided at the beginning of your holiday and replaced if your stay is longer than 1 week. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped. 2 portable enclosed heaters are available for your comfort, if required.

Further details outdoors

The remote controlled gates which open onto a gentle slope, and the one small low step into the house, coupled with the downstairs double bedroom, make this house suitable for wheelchair access, or for the less physically able. The small outside patio area and BBQ make this a perfect setting for watching the sunset over the sea or the twinkling lights from hills of nearby Estrela in the evenings, whilst dining outside.

Madeira, which is Portuguese, is known as 'the floating garden' and is a lush, fertile, tropical vacation paradise, boasting beautiful scenery, hospitable people and gleaming sunshine. It owes its warm, pleasant climate to the fact that it is only 350km from the coast of Africa but 750km from mainland Portugal. It was officially discovered in 1415 and this quaint 'old world' masterpiece of nature is a canvas alive with folklore and time honoured tradition, with charming, pristine villages decorating the island. The exports include bananas, sugar cane, madeira wine, honey cake and poncha (a locally made drink), Apart from being very popular with walkers who enjoy the beautiful lavada walks, Madeira is also popular for sailing, deep sea fishing, whale and dolphin watching and paragliding. Throughout the year there are various festivals, which include flowers; wine; the sea and jazz. The spectacular fire work display on New Year's Eve is one not to be missed.

Estreito da Calheta

The village of Estreito da Calheta is on the west coast of Madeira and is favoured for its beautiful weather and fantastic sunsets.
Although you need a car, whilst staying here, everything is within close proximity. Local cafes/bars, restaurants, general stores, supermarket, shops, banks, pharmacy, hospital, beach and marina are all within 4-6 minutes drive away. The dual carriageway is only 2 minutes drive away and will take you towards Funchal and the airport in one direction and out to Porto Moniz, with its famous natural rock pools, in the other.
Calheta's sandy beach and marina are 4 minutes drive away and has many cafes and bars where you could get a snack or full course meal, a very pleasant spot, particularly during the warm evenings.

The main bustling town of Funchal is approximately 25 minutes drive away and here you will find lace making factories, shops, restaurants and bars. There is also a casino, with evening 'supper shows' and a cable car, from which you get fantastic views over Funchal. Madeira is a garden paradise and there are several beautiful garden areas, in which to view the vast array of flowers.
