Location description from owner

The Western Ireland region

North-west of Banagher, on the Connaught side of the river is the site of the monastic establishment of Clonfert, with the more famous Clonmacnoise a short distance further north. Clonmacnoise, an early Christian site founded in the mid-6th century includes the ruins of a cathedral, seven churches, two round towers, three high crosses and the largest collection of Early Christian graveslabs in Western Europe. Birr Castle, home to Lord and Lady Rosse and their family, is also home to Ireland's Historic Science Centre, The Great Telescope and demesne. Cloghan Castle is located between Gort and Loughrea, just outside the village of Kilchreest in Co. Galway. The Slieve Bloom mountains is made up of forests, blanket bogs that are unique to Ireland, interspersed with hidden valleys of great character, and interest to the nature lovers. The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board offers extensive game, coarse, pike and sea angling guides, describing the hundreds of fisheries located in the region.

Esker

Banagher is a scenic and charming Shannon-side village with an impressive history. As one of the few crossing points on the Shannon between the provinces of Leinster and Connaught, the village of Banagher held an important military strategic position. Any army that wanted to cross the river had few choices: Banagher, Athlone, Shannonbridge or Portumna. As a result numerous castles, forts and Martello towers dot the surrounding landscape.Corrigans “The Corner House” Public House, located in the centre of the town, is a traditional Irish family-run pub. Flynns Bar & Lounge is a family-run pub serving food and drink and also has live music at weekends.Birr Golf Club (18 hole golf course, Par 70) and Esker Hills Golf Club are both nearby. The River Queen, a fully licensed fifty-four seat cruiser which sails the river Shannon on a one and a half hour cruise, sails daily from Shannonbridge.

“Very relacing”

Thank you for the wine Peter. We had three families in our party, 6 adults and 6 children (aged from 18 months to 14 years). The house felt safe for all the children and was spotless. There was so much room in the house for us all to enjoy our time. The kitchen was the best equipped I have ever come across for a holiday cottage. It even had baby bowls. The children loved the TV's everywhere and the free wifi kept all the members of the party happy. The weather was wonderful so we had BBQs, went fishing at the end of the garden, had water fights in the lovely garden, played football matches, played a pool tournament. As you can see there was plenty to keep us occupied and we went out most days to visit local attractions.

Hi Sophie, thank you for your excellent review. Delighted that you enjoyed the wine on your arrival. From your review I can see you guys are competitive and enjoyed the water fights,I always say enjoyment is about spending quality time, in the company of the ones you enjoy most and it does not cost the Earth. Thank you again Sophie Peter & Pat

“Excellent weekend in lovely house and garden on the river Shannon with great facilities for children and adults.”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2015

My family and I enjoyed our sunny weekend in this spacious, well equipped house by the River Shannon. The playroom, snooker and activity room, and garden with swings, slides, football area and fishing boat and slipway to the river area provided lots of facilities for children and adults. We visited Birr Castle with its famous telescope, beautiful grounds and lake and play area and cafe. Also, nearby we explored the historic Abbey and visitor centre at Clonmacnoise which is located right beside the Shannon. I particularly enjoyed sitting on the house balcony looking at the river, countryside and glorious sunsets.

Thank you Ursula for your review, great that you all enjoyed your stay at Riverside Paradise.Nice to you got to visit some of the many local attractions near Riverside Paradise. We look forward to meeting you all again. Peter & Pat Downey

“A week of non stop entertainment, in a wonderful house and amazing grounds”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2015

We were met on the first day by a kind lady who showed us around the house and gardens. A complimentary white and red bottles of wine were left on the kitchen table with an inviting message from Peter. The house was amazing, we had 11 adults, 6 kids and 2 infants, so it was a large group of extended family members. All were accommodated very comfortably and at times during our stay we had to go looking for people as the house had two living rooms, a games room, a kids play room and a very large kitchen & untilty room. The house and it's contents were to a very high standard and each room in the house was fully equipped with everything you needed and more. Even on the last day we were find new things about the house and its contents which was unreal. We stayed for a full week and hired a bouncy castle for the kids. We did leave the house, only to get shopping, as there was so much to entertain us at the house. We played rounders, football, water fight, sports day, bowling, fishing, boat rides, and a nature walk and playing on the private playground. In side the house there was a pool table, bar, large LED TV with sky sports, kids indoor playroom full of toys and games, poker table, WiFi throughout, very comfortable furniture, barbecue, baloney, American style fridge, juzzuie, ensure bedrooms, very clean and comfortable beds and all the bedrooms had LED TVs with DVD players. The house also had lots of books, DVDs and games which were used by all. We are already planning a return trip and we couldn't recommended this holiday more highly, you won't be disappointed. We were all very upset on the day we were leaving as the holiday had exceeded everyone's exceptions.

Thank you Sean for taking the time to express how much your family enjoyed Riverside Paradise. We look forward to meeting you all again. Peter & Pat Downey

“Great family/friends place - highly recommended”

group of 10 adults and 8 babies/toddlers stayed for 4-days. perfect location and great break away from hustle and bustle. amazing setting and not too far to travel to (from Dub or Galway). We brought a dog and this caused some issues (for the cleaners) but overall the facilities in this house were amazing - very well kept and clean. Great space and in great condition. Rooms were very suitable for couples (5 couples, 4 new borns and 4 toddlers <3yrs). I would highly recommend to families/groups of friends. the games room and patio's were great social spaces. - kitchen was big enough to hold us all. The owner was exceptionally helpful and provided great support and insight into the mgmt of the space and what was in the locality - JJ Houghs definitely worth a visit. The super value store was very convenient too.

Great that all enjoyed Riverside Paradise. The problem with the dogs was, I did ask that the dogs were confined to a particular area of the house or our outdoor kennels, during their stay, for hygiene reasons and all was agreed before the arrival date.Unfortunately they were allowed to travel in all rooms, leaving dog hair on all carpets and sofas. It did take the cleaners a lot of additional time,to have Riverside Paradise ready for our next guest. “Lives up to the name!”

We booked Riverside Paradise as it looked fantastic on line and also large enough for our group(9 adults 2 kids). On arrival we were welcomed by the owner Peter who gave us a tour of the house and we quickly realised the house would be perfect for us! The cleanliness of the property was outstanding in all rooms. The house is perfect for large groups as the house is so big it doesnt feel as if your on top of each other, with 2living rooms and pool room and huge garden there is plenty space for all. We had really warm weather while we were there so we were very impressed and made use of the outside furniture and BBQ and my own daughter loved the swing and slide. We would all definitely recommend this house for family gatherings etc Beautiful location and very relaxing.

Thank you for your excellent review,we look forward to seen you all again. Peter

Lovely property that had something for all ages - playroom and swings etc. for grandchildren, pool for my sons, well equipped kitchen, terrace to relax on, Large family group and everyone was happy.Everywhere was safe and secure for the children so we could relax. Would recommend the private river cruise that picked us up at the jetty at the bottom of the garden and Adam coming in to prepare a great meal for us all.

A big thank you from Peter & all at Riverside Paradise, for taking the time to sent your review on your experience of Riverside Paradise. Thank you Peter

“A truly wonderful house, 'our holiday mansion' is what our children said!”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2014

Riverside Paradise was just the perfect holiday home for us. Four adults and 5 children aged between 12-5 travelled here and stayed for four nights. The bedrooms were delightful most with an ensuite bathroom. The basement living room with pool table and large comfy sofas was where we gathered most evenings to relax and chill out after a days sightseeing. We had movies, the pool table and the open fire. There is even a bar area and table and chairs which became our games table for the boys. The kitchen is fully stocked with every kind of a pot and pan, endless crockery, tea pots, coffee makers and glasses galore. The outside balcony off the kitchen was another favourite hang out for adults to watch the children playing in the garden or hear them chatting over a game of pool!! Of course I must give a mention to the lovely gardens, childrens play area and the jetty onto the river at the bottom of the garden, a great spot to dip in your toes after a days adventure! The location is fantastic to explore the surrounding area too including Banagher, Clonmacnoise, Birr Castle, Shannon Harbour and Lough Boora Parklands and Sculpture Park.

Thank you Julie for your excellent 5 Star review.I love the children's expression of "Our Holiday Mansion".

“Top end comfort in a home from home environment !”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2014

Clean, modern and comfortable house which, from a 'feel' perspective is thankfully a million miles away from being a clinical 'holiday home'. Lots of space, plenty of bedding/towels, stylish/minimalist decor and an extremely well kitted out kitchen all make for a stress-free get-away ; the garden and the proximity to the River Shannon only add to the charm. Peter the owner is a delight to deal with - responsive, caring and professional. You really do feel that he takes absolute responsibility for making your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. The house itself is a 4 minute car ride from Banagher town centre which has a well-stocked Supervalu. Flynns serves very acceptable Gastropub food. Further afield, The Thatch just outside Birr was a disappointment but Beans & Leaves in Athlone was great for lunch and The Locke (again Athlone) was world-class in every respect and should be a priority to visit (for Dinner) - see separate Tripadvisor reviews. All in all, a great Irish Easter break (the 19th such 'event' in succession) was enjoyed by my extended family and we are able to recommend this property without hesitation.

It was a pleasure to have you all at Riverside Paradise. To hear that you have holidayed in Ireland so many times and this was your first visit to the Midlands of Ireland.I am grateful to you, for taking the time to review the restaurants that you dined in, during your stay at Riverside Paradise.Thank you again, hopefully we will see you again at Riverside Paradise

“Great Christmas holliday in the perfect house”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2014

What a perfect house for a family reunion! Peter had the house beautifully decorated for Christmas before we had arrived which made it very homey and welcoming. This house has everything we needed for a family get-together. The kitchen was fantastic and very well equipped. Lots of living space - two sitting rooms with lovely open fires that kept us nice and cozy on those windy winter nights. Everything was as advertised and depicted in the photos. Bedrooms were bigger than we expected from the photos with plenty of closet space. The property was very nice. So much room for kids to play. The views were fantastic - nice to wake up to the river Shannon out the back window. Everyone had a great time. Banagher is very close and we spent some time in this lovely town. The house is also centrally located for day trips. We went to Galway and Tullamore and explored other places. The owners were very accommodating and made sure our stay was perfect. We'll definitely be back. Next time in the summer to enjoy the Shannon more. Thanks for a great stay!
