Location description from owner

The Kyrenia District

Situated in the South Eastern corner of the Mediterranean, North Cyprus is blessed with magnificent weather, basking in more than 320 days of sunshine every year. The island has a typical Mediterranean climate with long, warm and dry summers and short mild winters. It's not unusual for temperatures climb above 20C in January.

The Kyrenia region is a perfect place to spend a holiday. Whether you like to laze on the beach all day or be a bit more adventurous, there is plenty of choice. Choose from beaches with all the facilities at the click of your fingers or one of the many deserted sandy coves. Go horse riding, go-carting, tandem paragliding, cycling, fishing, hiking, golfing or try your luck in the casino. Explore ancient castles and towns, Roman ruins and rustic villages. If you like shopping, take your pick from traditional handicrafts to designer clothing.

Kyrenia or Girne, as it is known locally, is the 2nd largest town in Northern Cyprus. It has a beautiful old town leading down to the castle overlooking the picturesque harbour. From here, you can join an all-day or sunset boat trip or charter a catamaran for your exclusive use. The harbour area is bustling all day but is particularly popular with locals and tourists after dark when the streets and restaurants come alive.

Visitors are spoilt for choice of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops within the town and the surrounding area. It's possible to dine out every night for a year (or more) without visiting the same venue twice.

Celebrations are frequent with many festivals throughout the year from International Music, Art and Theatre festivals to smaller village affairs celebrating the Olive, Grape, Date, Watermelon and Orange harvests.

Esentepe

Less than five minutes drive from the villa is the beautiful village of Esentepe. Perched on the mountainside overlooking the Mediterranean, it is one of the few villages in the area that has remained relatively unchanged with the passage of time. At the hub of the village is the mosque, previously a Christian church built in Byzantium times. From there, traditional houses fan out to the outskirts of the original village where they meet and mingle with more recent developments.

The old village contains several mini markets, a bank with ATM, a post office, barbers/hairdressers, numerous restaurants, cafes and bars. Just outside the village, on the coast road, is a petrol station (with ATM), chemist, an ice cream parlour and two larger markets. The village is renowned for apricots which are celebrated with a festival around the beginning of June each year.

“Lovely stay”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

We stayed here for 16 nights in August. The property is has so much to offer the children though that they were at home! A massive book shelf, DVD's and games console, for when it was too hot and the beautiful pool and outside toys for when it was time to be in the sun. The inside of the property is just lovely and immaculately clean. For those that need to know, WIFII perfect, the kitchen has everything you could need (probably more) there is full air conditioning, 3 outside seating areas as well as the main garden and pool area and on suite bathrooms, I would defy anyone to fault how lovely this place is. In easy reach with a car of: lovely restaurants, supermarkets and 2 amazing beaches (one that was completely deserted and we claimed as our own!) the other with a bar and the chance to see baby turtles being released into the see (an absolute favourite with our family, check Facebook and ring ASAP when they say it will be happening as there are limited spaces) The beaches are shallow and in the most part clean, you need to be careful of the turtle nests although these are clearly marked but the sea is so warm and lovely. And there are goats and sheep that pass by the house nearly every afternoon - just perfect! The owners of the property are really amazing and live just a few door away - they did so much to help with booking and information before we arrived and were on hand throughout our stay to help with anything we needed and keep the pool lovely for us, really lovely people! If I had to identify a negative the only thing I would highlight is the property is detached but near to others on the same street. The area is so quiet, which is perfect, but after sundown you could actually hear a pin drop. The first night we arrived very late at about 1am and didn't realise the very close proximity of our neighbours so jumped straight in the pool and were probably very noisy! After this we tried to keep the noise down but this can be hard with 3 boys! I would also just point out that the water supply in all of North Cyprus is limited (which we knew before we went) so while previously we had take limited baggage expecting to be able to do a load of washing this wasn't possible here. We flew into Larnaca airport and booked a car from the northern airport but the transfer was an absolute nightmare so next time I will touch down in Turkey and land directly into Northern Cyprus. Lovely property, fabulous owners would defiantly return

We are so pleased you had a great holiday and were very happy with the villa, we try hard to make it feel more like a home from home rather than just somewhere to sleep. Although it is in a small development, nobody has a problem hearing children (and adults) enjoying themselves. The water situation should resolve itself before next Summer as the island will be shortly receiving water from Turkey. Thank you very much for the lovely review and we would love to welcome you all back again.

“Fantastic location - has everything you could think of and more!”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2015

Mountain Breeze has everything you could want - a beautiful location, in excellent condition, very well maintained and spotlessly clean, a fantastic pool, excellent AC throughout (crucial in August!). Kitchen has everything you might want - washing machine, dishwasher, water cooler, cool box and ice packs for beach trips etc etc. and for teenagers WiFi, board games, Wii, TV, DVD player, books (including guide books) were great addtions. The owners are nearby and available if any issues - we had none - but nice to know they were on hand. If turtles are of interest to you, the villa is a 10 minute drive to Alagadi Beach where green and loggerhead turtles can be seen June-Sept! Great villa, great location, highly recomended!

Thank you so much for your positive review, we're so glad everything was to your liking and hope to welcome you all again in the future.

“Wonderful”

Reviewed 7 Aug 2013

Gavin & Eileen have made this villa into a real home from home. Spotlessly clean with all that we needed to make our stay a happy and comfortable one. Gavin kept the pool clean and Eileen changed the linen at the end of the first week. They live a few villas away and were there if we needed them. They are very friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive. The area is peaceful & quiet - the noisiest thing is the noise coming from the crickets! A car is needed to get to the village which is the one and only minus point (but we knew about that and had already hired one) Make sure a car has a decent engine size - our 1.2 didn't like the steep roads too much! This is a lovey villa in a beautiful area. We love the area and would go back to Mountain Breeze without hesitation. Book it!

Thank you for your very positive review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you again in the future.
