The property has been lovingly renovated by local craftsmen to offer a combination of the highest possible standards of comfort whilst retaining many original features. The large kitchen diner has fitted units with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, electric combination microwave oven, gas hob and oak dining table for six. A large living room leads off with chestnut beams offering a cool place to relax with digital TV, UK satellite, Sony Playstation with numerous games, DVDs and books. Ground floor facilities include a toilet and separate bathroom with full size bath, shower overhead, washbasin and washing machine. A southfacing veranda offers stunning views over the Lot valley and has table and chairs for al fresco meals.

An oak staircase leads upstairs to Bedroom 1 which has a 5 foot double bed, traditional chestnut wardrobe, armchair and window opening out to a wonderful view over the river, whilst bedroom 2 has twin beds with both valley views and direct doorway access to the garden via external steps. Duvets, linen and towels are provided. There is an upstairs toilet and a separate shower room with hand basin. Oil fired central heating has belled soe the house is ideal for holidays in low season. Outside there is ample parking for several vehicles and shaded seating areas. In summer you can watch small lizards sunning on the cottage walls and swifts flying over the veranda on warm evenings. The nearest neighbours (local Aubrac cows) are very friendly and you may even see red deer visiting the garden in late evening.

The 3.5m x 9m pool is gently salinated and 1.2m deep with a metal security cover. The pool is surrounded by paving with sun loungers. Nearby a new terrace with barbecue and garden furniture has been created to make the most of the views.

The cottage is within 10 minutes walking distance of the narrow medieval town of Entraygues which provides a full range of shops including local butchers and bakers and Friday farmers markets. Leisure amenities include river rafting, municipal swimming pool, river walks, numerous cafes and restaurants and on high-season evenings local speciality food and entertainment in the market square. Conques and Estaing, two of the “Beaux Villages de France” - are just 12 miles away.

Location description from manager

The Occitanie region

The Cantal region descends from the breathtaking volcanic Mountains in the north down through gorges and river valleys. Steeped in historical interest it has an abundance of ancient sites, monuments, castles, towns and villages. It is an unspoilt region where visitors can enjoy rural life with clean air and glorious countryside yet still find plenty of activities to interest everyone of any age. The local people are friendly and take great pride in their region's heritage and are always keen to introduce visitors to their treasures whether food, drink, their way of life or the countryside. Most of our properties are located around the medieval village of Entraygues sur Truyère nestling in the heart of the picturesque Vallée du Lot on the border of the Cantal and Aveyron. Entraygues is in the north of the department (or county) known as the Aveyron, which is one of eight in the Midi-Pyrenees. It is here where the river Truyère tumbles out of the Auvergne and joins the river Lot.

The area is geographically extreme and very beautiful with an abundance of views to take your breath away! The climate here can also be extreme, but being sheletered sheltered by the northern and easterly aspects of the Auvergne and Aubrac mountains, part of the Central massif, we enjoy a Mediterranean style climate with cold crisp snowy winters, stunning Springs, long hot summers (although due to the altitude night times are thankfully cool) and long spectaular warm autumns with day after day of blue skies.

Entraygues-sur-Truyere

A delightful but steep walk takes you down to the medieval town of Entraygues which provides a full range of shops including local butchers and bakers and Friday farmers markets. Leisure amenities include river rafting, municipal swimming pool, river walks, numerous cafes and restaurants and in the summer night markets provide local speciality food and entertainment in the market square. Conques and Estaing, two of the “Beaux Villages de France” - are just 12 miles away.

The large towns of Aurillac and Rodez are about an hour’s drive and both offer extensive shopping, culture, restaurants and activities to suit all tastes.

Whether you like walking, driving around to explore medieval villages, more strenuous activity such as canoeing or horse riding, sampling the delights of the regional cuisine there is something for everyone. All our houses have information on what to do.With the nearest Auto route 60 miles away and the nearest railway line 30 miles little has changed over the years and the Vallée du Lot remains a haven of peace and tranquillity.

“Wonderful villa, wonderful views”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2016

We have just spent an idyllic fortnight at La Belle Vue, enjoying all this beautiful villa and its surroundings has to offer. We had a terrific time, and would like to thank Penny and Tina for excellent service before and during our holiday. La Belle Vue is a spacious, elegant and well equipped villa. It has everything you could possibly need to enjoy your holiday, from a comprehensive batterie de cuisine to shelves well stocked with games, books and DVDs. The gardens are an especial joy, with seating areas on several different levels, carefully designed to offer sun or shade throughout the day. You can lunch under the awning outside the kitchen and then have dinner on the barbecue terrace below, which is decked with dairy lights after sark. The pool is on the topmost level, surrounded by a lovely terrace with one end shaded and one open for basking. The views across the valley are breathtaking; you feel as though you are swimming on the edge of the world. The pool itself is sparkling clean and a good size, with corner steps. The walk down to the village is rugged and the climb home exhausting for those not in peak physical fitness, but it us possible to get a modestly-priced taxi back. Entraygues is a charming town, with plenty of places to partake of the local hearty fare while watching the world go by. There are many other charming villages and small towns within striking distance where you can admire ancient buildings and wide flower-decked bridges and then enjoy a delicious and well priced lunch. Plenty of menus du jour for around €15, and the portions are generous. Try the aligot, a calorie-dense bowl of heaven. Meat is uniformly excellent. The local wine is basic but a pichet at around €5 does the job. This area of Aveyron is very beautiful but for some reason seems not to be on the main to tourist trail. This is all to the good for anyone prepared to invest a minimum of effort into seeking a good time. A smattering of French is useful; the locals are warm and friendly and encouraging of the most basic of linguistic efforts. You will not gave to queue for attractions or schlep around looking for a table. There are many places when you can feel as though you gave the whole lovely place to yourself. The weather is excellent - we had hot sun most days but the occasional cooler day can be welcome. Early morning mists rising from the valley can be thick, and it is magical to watch them disperse and give way to sunshine. I really cannot recommend this lovely villa highly enough. Do yourselves a savour, and book today.

Thank you so much for your wonderful, thoughtful and extensive review of la Belle Vue and the area. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and appreciate you having taken the time to share your thoughts with us and potential guests.
