Caupels farmhouse is a glorious place for a holiday and offers fabulous accommodation for up to 8 people with a heated salt wtar swimming pool.

2000ft up in the rolling hills and the deep valleys of the Truyere Gorge, this beautiful French country house is highly recommended for peace and tranquillity yet just 5 minutes away is Lacroix Barrez, which has a general village store where you can buy fresh bread and croissants daily, local wine and cheeses, making this the ideal location for your own country retreat. There is an excellent restaurant in Mur de Barrez 8 miles away – the chef having recently cooked for ex-President Sarkozy. There are tennis courts in the local village of St. Hippolyte just 1 mile away, a choice of golf courses about 30 minutes away and a nearby horse riding establishment literally 15 minutes to reach by car. Entraygues, also 8 miles away, is the confluence of the rivers Lot and Truyere with a canoe base located on the outskirts of this town. It is a charming medieval town with 3 markets a week in the high summer months with excellent boucheries and boulangeries and of course, a superb choice of restaurants to choose from. including several with Michelin Stars.

Many of the original features of Caupels farmhouse have been blended into the renovations including an inglenook fireplace now housing a wood-burning stove and, the old farm sink in the living room now houses satellite and television equipment. There are plenty of comfortable arm chairs and sofas for snuggling up in on cold nights by the fire or to escape into the deliciously cool interior after an afternoon in the glorious sunshine on Summer days.

The house is entered through a hallway with a walk-in pantry on the left and a downstairs shower-room on the right. From there and through the door, you enter the tiled kitchen with a breakfast table, island unit, American-style fridge-freezer, gas range, and dishwasher. The back door leads out to a sunny patio with garden furniture and barbeque.

From the kitchen, the passage way leads to the beautiful re-furbished, carpeted living room with antique oak dining table and side board.

The stairs for the first floor are off the kitchen leading to the bedrooms, which are tastefully and charmingly decorated and have lovely views over the grounds. Original polished wooden floor boards gleam in the sunlight and each has lovely comfortable beds, duvets and linen. There are 2 bedrooms on the left - a twin and a double. - and an extremely spacious master double-bedroom on the right with king size bed and a shared bathroom. From the landing on the first floor, stairs lead up to the third double bedroom with velux windows facing to both the front and rear of Caupels with stunning views across the countryside.

Linen with duvets and towels are provided. There is also a laundry. End of stay cleaning is also included

Visitors to Caupels farmhouse have almost sole use of the heated salt water 11 x 5 metre swimming pool (the owner may sometimes be in residence in the 1-bedroom cottage nearby). The pool is situated about 45 metres from the house and has a pool-house with hot water shower/ changing room, kitchen and BBQ. Pool towels are also provided. There are walks and places of interest around the farmhouse , which is situated in around 10 acres of grounds including two cheeky and very friendly donkeys and a duck pond (children must be accompanied at all times when visiting the ducks or enjoying a walk).

DVD and English Sky TV is provided in the lounge with surround sound TV. IPods can also be played through the television to make use of the surround sound (as can other MP3 players via HDMI cable).

The Midi-Pyrénées region

The Cantal region descends from the breathtaking volcanic mountains in the north down through gorges and river valleys. Steeped in historical interest it has an abundance of ancient sites, monuments, castles, towns and beautiful villages. It is an unspoilt region where visitors can enjoy rural life with clean air and glorious countryside yet still find plenty of activities to interest everyone of any age. The local people are friendly and take great pride in their region's heritage and are always keen to introduce visitors to their treasures whether food, drink, their way of life or the countryside. Most of our properties are located around the medieval village of Entraygues sur Truyère nestling in the heart of the picturesque Vallée du Lot on the border of the Cantal and Aveyron. Entraygues is in the north of the department (or county) known as the Aveyron, which is one of eight in the Midi-Pyrenees. It is here where the river Truyère tumbles out of the Auvergne and joins the river Lot.

The area is geographically extreme and very beautiful with an enormous amount of views to take your breath away! The climate here can also be extreme, but being sheletered sheltered by the northern and easterly aspects of the Auvergne and Aubrac mountains, part of the Massid Central, we enjoy cold crisp snowy winters, stunning Springs, long hot summers (although due to the altitude night times are thankfully cool) and long spectaular warm autumns with day after day of blue skies.Whether you like walking, driving around to explore medieval villages, more sternous activity such as canoeing or horse riding, sampling the delights of the regional cuisine there is something for everyone. All our houses have information on what to do.With the nearest Auto route 60 miles away and the nearest railway line 30 miles little has changed over the years and the Vallée du Lot remains a haven of peace and tranquillity.

Entraygues-sur-Truyere

At the centre of our region is Entraygues-sur-Truyère at the confluence of the Lot and Truyère rivers, which was founded in the 10th century and by the middle ages had become an important town and bustling river port shipping local produce (notably wine, cheese and wood) to Bordeaux and from there to the rest of France and beyond. The name comes from the old language of the region Occitan, which is still taught in schools and translates to “entre les eaux” meaning between the waters. Once fortified, traces of the old town walls and 2 out of 213 towers from the old castle can still be seen. Today it remains beautifully preserved with narrow cobbled streets, timbered and corbelled houses and its 2 gothic XIIIth century bridges. The Truyère bridge was a key river crossing for pilgrims on the “route de St. Jaques de Compostella” (St .James’s way) down to Santiago in Spain. Pilgrims can still be see throughout the region following the well trodden path to Galicia today

As well as exploring the town’s history, visitors will find a full range of shops, restaurants and services for practical and enjoyable purposes. There are weekly markets and even night markets in the summer selling local produce.
