Location description from owner

The England region

Swallow Barn is close to the boundary of the Lake District National Park. This is fabulously scenic area, and worth a visit at any time of year. All land above 3000 feet in England, and the highest mountain and the deepest & longest lakes in England lie within this National Park. The area is also associated with poet William Wordsworth and children's author & illustrator, Beatrix Potter. The western extent of the Yorkshire Dales National Park are equally accessible from Swallow Barn. This area features pretty market towns and villages and features rolling upland pastures and heather moorland with limestone crags, and contain the " Yorkshire Three Peaks" of Ingleborough (723 metres), Pen y Ghent (691 metres) and Whernside (728 metres). To the South of Swallow Barn, and easily accessible, is the less well known Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, consisting of beautiful gritstone fells, deep valleys and peat moorland, famous for grouse shooting. Lastly Morecambe Bay, which is just visible from Swallow Barn, is an important wildlife site, with varied marine habitats and renowned for its abundant bird life. The bay has rich cockle beds, which have been fished by locals for generations. The whole region is thus a paradise for walkers, cyclists, water sports enthusiasts, cavers and birdwatchers.

Endmoor

“Excellent accommodation for large families and friends”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2014

This was our extended family's second stay at Swallow Barn and on both occasions it served as a very comfortable and well-equipped base for a brief stay in the Lake District. For 8 people of various ages, four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with plenty of living and dining space, makes for a most enjoyable holiday. Views across to Morecambe Bay and the surrounding farmland are glorious, and a welcoming pack of milk, bread and fire logs is one of the touches that makes this property special. Would highly recommend this at any time of year.
