The Cambridgeshire region

Welcome to the historic city of Ely, full of charm and beauty and home to one of the most magnificent cathedrals in England.

Nestled in the Fen countryside, this small city in East Cambridgeshire is your ideal day visit or short break location. Whether it is a tranquil, peaceful retreat you are looking for or an inspiring, invigorating visit then the bustling city of Ely surrounded by dramatic countryside has it all.

As well as the Cathedral Ely also offers Oliver Cromwell's House which is also the tourist information center, Waterside Antiques, the biggest in East Anglia, the Ely museum, the stained glass museum and the Babylon Gallery.

Ely has the major tourist locations of Cambridge and Newmarket on its doorstep at the same time as being only an hour away from London by rail and only two hours away from the Norfolk Coast by car. Not forgetting of course the numerous small villages and towns in between that each have their own individual characteristics to offer. Therefore, Ely and Stable Mews makes for an ideal base for exploring the area.

"This place was perfect for our home away from home!"

2 Stable Mews was exactly as described. It was immaculate and comfortable. The location in Ely was fabulous... could walk everywhere in the City Center. So nice to be able to see the Cathedral and to walk there for services. Nice to have off street parking. Entrance is narrow, so don't bring a huge vehicle, but the average car will not have a problem. AJ was great to work with - we were pleased with the prompt communication. There is also a very comprehensive information booklet in the rental with local info on shopping, restaurants, sights, etc. Also info on how to use all of the appliances, etc. Very helpful! Can't say enough good things! Only suggestion I would have is that an extra towel per person would be great.

"Great location in Ely, convenient for Cambridge"

My mum and I found 2 Stable Mews immaculately presented and spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. It was quiet yet within a very short walking distance to the centre of Ely and its various attractions. Being a short drive away from Milton Park and Drive, it was ideal to visit Cambridge without having to stay in town.

"Central with Cathedral Views - Great"

If you want a really central place to stay in Ely, there there is no where better than this. Very central, all that you could want within walking distance. The house is modern and well equipped, very tasteful and neutral decoration. Just a bit tricky getting into the Mews if you have a wide car - my fiesta was fine.

"Perfect location, clean, modern and cosy"

Stayed here for a few days for a bit of rest and relaxation and that is what we got. Very clean and tidy, and thoughtfully, AJ had provided milk, biscuits and tea for our arrival. Perfect location for visiting Cambridgeshire; only an hours drive to Sandringham. Stable Mews is right in the centre of Ely, so walking to restaurants and shops is easy. The cathedral bells can be heard throughout the day, which was never annoying but totally charming. There were only two minor problems. The main bedroom has a sloping roof which caused a couple of bumped heads until we got used to it, and the parking is quite tight for larger cars, but neither would stop us from visiting again. Overall a lovely place to be.

"Home from home with every comfort"

No 2 Stable Mews is ideally placed for enjoying Ely and all that Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties have to offer. The cottage itself has absolutely everything you could want for a self catering holiday; it is extremely comfortable and immaculately clean. the location is excellent, being virtually across the road from Ely Cathedral and the (*)Tourist Information office ( whose staff are the most pleasant and informative of any we've visited) Its a short walk into Ely town centre and a little further to the beautiful Riverside. We visited Cambridge twice as there is so much to see there. we used the local bus, and our senior passes, to avoid parking problems etc. One of our highlights was visiting Sandringham, less than an hour by car, as it was so informal compared to other Royal residences, once again the staff/volunteers were a pleasure to speak to and to learn from. The museum there is also worth the visit. we would not hesitate to return to No2 Stable Mews and to recommend it to others.

"Fantastic property, in a great location"

My visit to Ely was a combined trip of enjoying some chill time and to see with my daughter who lives locally. Despite the return of winter this past weekend i had a very enjoyable trip and an exceptional stay at Stable Mews. It was all and more than advertised, warm, homely, very clean and comfortable with beautiful furnishings with all the mod cons a mom needs to cook and fill up her daughters freezer! Having stayed at the Hoist a property owned by the same family before, I knew the standards would be high and I certainly was not disappointed at Stable Mews. It was lovely again to find that there was tea, coffee, milk and biscuits waiting for me after a long tiring drive from Bristol, which is a nice touch & much appreciated. I most definitely will do a return visit to the property hopefully when the weather is warmer and make the most of what is a wonderful city
